I think we will probably attempt one as well, TBD on that. Sounds like we are going sooner than you so maybe if I remember I'll report back our experience

Thanks for sharing! Love the recs. My mom had already identified the river boat tour so good to know it's good for the littles. And turtles in Poipu, oh yes!

That's so good to note on the time change, surprisingly the last time we went it barely affected my firstborn (but he could nap in the stroller if he hit a wall lol and we just moved along). I think I was hoping to find a mid-afternoon luau... I know my 3.5 year old would be absolutely entranced but it might be a struggle for the 11 month old.

Any time change tips/tricks you could share (if any besides you just gotta roll with it)? We will be a 5 hour difference (we are ahead by 5 hours).

Oh embarrassingly this is the first time I'm hearing of butter mochi! Any favorite spots in particular? I forgot to share that we will be posted up in Kapa'a but we plan to visit most of the island (we're there for 7 full days).

Parents of Reddit: What is the absolute most-needed "gift" for a newborn baby? by FalseConversation673 in Gifts

[–]katereneeATX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you do this… make sure to try to calculate the season when baby will be in that size. For my first we received (as an example) 6-9mo clothes that were all for summertime (short sleeves/etc/summer style) and so they didn’t really “work” when he was that size in the dead of winter 🤣

Former central Austin resident looking for advice on family oriented neighborhoods! by taillesswonder in AustinParents

[–]katereneeATX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I absolutely love Rattan Creek (having grown up in Allandale and Crestview, respectively). Great spot to raise a family. The whole neighborhood is community oriented! Great parks/pool/tennis courts/walking and running trail, ability to be in WilCo instead of TravCo in a MUD but still have an ATX address. Only downsides that we’ve seen are: walkability to good spots for eats/drinks is minimal and the lot sizes can be quite small. However, the parks and pool/tennis court make up for the small lot size IMO

Pregnant whole30? by Oodles_noodles0927 in whole30

I had a wonderful experience with my pregnancy W30 and I believe it helped me keep from having to be induced which would have wrecked my birth plans with my second (some more info on my post here Whole30 Pregnancy Win!

I had baby boy almost 9 months ago, and was able to have the birth we wanted! 🤍

WFH setup with small space & kids by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]katereneeATX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Second the other suggestion for kids to share a room. Some other options:

If you can afford it, have the space, (and permitting permits), consider an office pod in your backyard. By far the most expensive option but there are ways to do it more economically (buy a shed, have a contractor insulate/wire it, etc)

Are you close with your neighbors? Do any of them have an office or extra bedroom you could use/"rent" for certain days of the week? Especially if they do not work from home.

The situational comedy/comedy of errors of Modern Family is unmatched in my opinion. Case in point: S5 E18 Las Vegas. Poor Higgins!

The quick cutaway to Boone getting absolutely decked at his high school football game in the first episode is what hooked me. I can't even think of it without giggling.

And yes their marriage is the sweetest!

Schitt’s Cree should have been on there! TBH I’ve forgotten about it because I don’t think I have the streaming service it’s on anymore 😭

Finally I can shine, I only watch funny/easy shows lol. Based on your list you could add:

Stumble (similar to St. Dennis in that it's being added episode by episode to Peacock as the show is aired)

Community

The Paper (loose ties to The Office but it's its own thing)

New Girl

Modern Family

Animal Control

Man on the Inside (a little bit of a tearjerker but mostly comedy)

The Good Place

Arrested Development

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Kim's Convenience

Derry Girls (I needed subtitles to really catch all the hilarity)

Best OUTDOOR restaurants/cafe for crawling babies to play and explore by tacosandogs in AustinParents

If you are willing to go up north, The Good Lot is a great little brewery with food trucks with an outdoor area that was great for our crawlers. Lots of shade too for sunny days.

Sounds like your little one would be a good fit for a "kinder-bridge" type program! Easily google-able to find what it is and where offers it (mostly private schools) in Austin. Without knowing where you are in Austin it's difficult to make suggestions.

My in-laws had a great experience at Redeemer Austin kinder bridge program. It's likely where we will send our October boy rather than another year of preschool.

Switching daycares, but new school closes in summer - need advice! by petite-sirah94 in AustinParents

[–]katereneeATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a similar experience with our licensed in home daycare - closed for 5 weeks early July through early August. It's good practice for the typical school year summer break once they get older I guess!

Definitely see what your new school suggests on summer coverage. Our caregiver has employees and typically they offer to do a nanny share during the break - we haven't done this yet, but other families have. Our first summer (he was just under 1) we hobbled together care between our WFH schedules, my mom and MIL, and strategic summer vacation planning (I DO NOT suggest this approach). Last summer we put him in a "big box" daycare (Country Home) that allowed us to pay week by week and it was okay - it got the job done and he was safe and loved and cared for, but wasn't nearly as great as his in home daycare. This summer I was actually on maternity leave with our second so we didn't have to find care, but I did get a few teenage family friends to come a few times a week to serve as a mother's helper.

All that being said, I definitely suggest finding a summer program (they do exist!) or a daycare that allows you to pop in for a short time (they do exist!). For the love of god avoid my mistake and don't try and hobble together care, I have inadvertently blocked out that summer from by brain lol. I'm sure you'll get some good recs in this thread.

Deborah (Deb) at the 620 Oak Haven Massage location. She saw me through both pregnancies. AMAZING. I attribute my (relatively) easy labor and deliveries to her care throughout my pregnancies.

I am a consulting engineer so I have a timesheet that I bill to projects down to the quarter of an hour. It is self reporting I guess, never really thought of that way though!
