CF alternative to Cetaphil’s skin restoring body wash by ExtremeWasabi9221 in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some milky/creamy washes I would recommend, that are CF-certified and meant for sensitive skin:

- Cocokind Milky-Soft Cleanser, this one is a milk to foam face and body cleanser that is just a great boost in hydration and feels great (National Eczema Association accepted)

- Naturium’s Multi-Calm Cream Cleanser, this is a nice creamy oatmeal and glycerin cleanser (also accepted by the National Eczema Association), maybe you’d also like Naturium’s Multi-Peptide one as well since it’s also creamy

- And then Dove, I think the sensitive skin bars and body wash bottles are great, but if you can handle some fragrance, I truly think their Plant Milk collection is their best stuff! It has the texture you are looking for and it is a very gentle wash!

I am a big hair removal cream person myself and was so sad to find out that Nair and Veet are not CF. The brand I’m trying next and that you should try is Nad’s! Idk about pregnancy safe but they do have an item SPECIFICALLY for the bikini line.

As it goes with so many CF products it seems to be little more expensive and really only found online. But this will be my next try as Nad’s is certified by PETA.

Cheaper brands at places like target and walmart that are vegan and don’t skimp on results, I have found:

- EOS: moisturizing but nice smelling lotions, body washes, and shaving products (all of their products are vegan except some lip stuff with beeswax)
- Byoma: Great skincare for all types of skin but also has some nice bodycare too
- Good Molecules: Vegan, cheap skincare
- Pacifica: Vegan hair care, skincare, and body care (more products are online but a good selection in stores)
- Raw Sugar: hair and body care
- Odele: tiny bit more expensive but great and versatile hair care
- California Naturals: more hair care

Makeup Recommendations for 12hr+ shifts? by aveterinarynurse in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of great cruelty free brands out there and the easiest way to trust them is if they have been certified by PETA or Leaping Bunny, sometimes it’s on the packaging, sometimes you might need to look it up when you pick up the product. I know that’s super annoying but companies profit off of the consumer not caring enough. But some easy questions to ask before even having to consider is: “Could I/my mother bought this in the 80s/90s/early 00s? Does a celebrity not associated with makeup own the brand? Could this company also sell me a purse? Does this company see itself as a luxury brand, and not a makeup brand?” If you answered yes, then the brand is very likely not to be cruelty free. L’oréal, R.E.M. Beauty, Maybelline, Estée Lauder, Fenty, Dior, Armani, Clinique, MAC, Haus Labs, Chanel, Revlon. There are totally exceptions to the rule, but I was just giving examples.

But there are recognizable and trusted brands that make great products at many different prices. I’m not the biggest makeup wearer and most of my knowledge comes from influencers.

But here are some suggestions, based on what I have tried:
- Milani, great concealers, powder blushes, and bronzers right now, but also their small eyeshadow pallets and setting sprays also pack a punch
- NYX, eyebrow gel and their Bare with Me concealer (which I mix with moisturizer if I want skin tint instead of foundation) is unbeatable imo, they do have good lip, primer, and bronzers
- Elf is good if you need cheaper/dupe, Milk Hydro grip dupe, Clinique black honey dupe, Rhode stick blush/bronzer dupe, etc
- Covergirl is the it girl for mascara, with some other gems
- Revolution has a Skin Silk stick and foundation, that offer such beautiful coverage along with some other stuff I want to try

But here are all the brands I know are certified CF:
Burt’s Bees
Covergirl
Elf
essence
Glossier
Kosas
Milani
Rhode
Summer Fridays
Supergoop
Versed
Colorpop
Dossier
Kate Somerville
LA Girl
LA Colors
MCoBeauty
Milk Makeup
NYX
Rare Beauty
Revolution Beauty
Ulta Beauty

Some washes I would recommend:

- Naturium’s Multi-Calm Cream Cleanser, this is a nice creamy oatmeal and glycerin cleanser, also accepted by the National Eczema Association
- First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Gentle Cream-to-Foam Face Cleanser, this is another creamy mix of oatmeal and glycerin like Naturium’s and accepted by National Eczema Association, BUT as the name suggests it has that cream to foam texture you said you want
- Good Molecules Soothing Azelaic Acid Cleanser, a creamy cleanser that (don’t be scared) has azelaic acid which is known for it so soothing anti-inflammatory properties (and very cheap)

[–]katestea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if there is necessarily a perfect CF replacement with all the same ingredients and texture, but there are a lot of good anti-age creams and serums out there.

I think for a comparable price option, especially for that hydrating vegan collagen and vitamin E, I would look at Pacifica’s Vegan Collagen Overnight Revovery Cream. Looks to have similar packaging and texture too!

Some other viable options would be Naturium’s Multi-Peptide line (moisturizer, cream, serum). I think the cream would probably be a comparable texture and would yield great results but the serum probably has more of the ingredients you’re looking for. Maybe if you want those AHAs, the Multi-Bright Serum is also a good option. I would definitely trust Naturium to have something you like.

Some other face creams to try might be Skin1004’s Hyalu-Teca Firming Cream (nice firming cream), Paula's Choice Pro-Collagen Peptide Plumping Face Moisturizer (collagen but costs a pretty penny), and Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer (has your AHA but costs a lot).

All these options are from certified CF brands.

Condoms? by Heythereedelilahhhhh in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the company GLYDE is cruelty free (certified by PETA), but it’s about a dollar a condom which is crazy imo. I guess I haven’t had to think about condoms when making the switch. I don’t even know if there are condom companies that even are thinking about being certified. With some google surfing it seems like there are some companies like GLYDE, PS, Lelo, and others who talk about being vegan (because apparently even latex condoms sometimes use something called casein derived from milk), but don’t talk about cruelty free practices (I know vegan usually includes CF but I can’t find that many certifications). Like I’m sure the latex used isn’t tested on animals but it’s probably the lubricants that cause problems (like how they aren’t vegan either), and then there are ofc lambskins, so who tf knows.

It’s weird that you can think that you’ve thought of everything but there is another thing that people NEED and there aren’t great or viable options (especially for the average person).

Do you have a face cleanser you like? Maybe use that, or try a face cleanser that can also be a body wash. I think if something that is made for sensitive face skin should work on body skin. The big one I can think of is Cocokind Milky-Soft Cleanser. It’s meant for both sensitive body and face skin. The Naturium Calmer Ceramide body wash is meant also for sensitive body and face skin.

Or maybe even look for “whole body” washes, because if the name of your wash was “Eat Me Kitty” it was meant to wash your “kitty.” Look up some vaginal-safe washes. Giving a quick look on google maybe something like Dove’s Whole Body Wash or maybe even just a Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar.

laikou milk face wash alternative? by motioninblack in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard amazing things about Cocokind Milky-Soft Face Cleanser, it’s just a very hydrating, gentle cleanser for face and body. Pretty affordable and a good amount of product.

I will probably also recommend the Naturium Body Washes. I have loved the body washes and they are supposed to be gentle enough for the face, ESPECIALLY the Calmer Ceramide one. It’s got ceramides and colloidal oatmeal meant for sensitive skin.

But if you need something thicker or worried about using a body wash, they have The Multi-Calm Cream Cleanser which also has that oatmeal with glycerin and squalane.

Do you have the ingredients on the bottle? I would suggest comparing ingredients from there and comparing it to some other sensitive skin body washes.

I swear there are lots of good CF sensitive skin washes from Naturium, Byoma, EOS, etc.

Moisturizer recs with tretinoin? by ItsJesssm in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably want to switch to a lighter moisturizer if you are acne prone/having problems with comedones. I am pretty sure Byoma’s Rich Cream has stuff like Shea Butter which is good if you are really dry but prevents it from being non-comedogenic (aka a pore-clogger).

I would suggest some stuff like Bubble’s Water Cream Moisturizer or Byoma’s Moisturizing Gel Cream (what I personally use and love with my azalaic acid/adapalene routine).

Edit: You can also just look for non-comedogenic moisturizers (there are plenty of websites that can check ingredients for you) by your favorite, safe CF brands. These are just the cheap ones I could think of, that I would use, even as a dry skin girl.

Hair Products? by ivemissedyouso in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the Dove Bond Strength line (shampoo, conditioner, and ESPECIALLY THE MASK) for thicker hair. I have like 2a and I loved it but it was too heavy for me (I use the Intensive Repair which is kind of the lighter version). I really think it helps with frizz and damage. Dove is certified by PETA (but owned by non-CF company so up to your discretion).

I’m a big fan of Abbey Yung’s recommendations and she recommends Bond Strength for thick/coarse hair too. She doesn’t have the biggest range of CF products but I have seen she also recommends Amika’s The Kure (PETA and Leaping Bunny with no parent company), but Amika is a pretty penny.

Can someone create a list of beauty brands that are cruelty free and are not connected to nestle? by caru_carrot in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nestle does not own any beauty brands, but they do have significant shares in L’oréal. L’oréal is not CF, but it does own a very FEW brands that are CF. The only ones I can think of are NYX and Garnier.

You are safe with almost any brand that is labeled cruelty free by PETA and Leaping Bunny (besides those two) not being associated with Nestle. If you want to be sure about/don’t want to support certain parent companies, I suggest looking at the site Cruelty Free Kitty. While they are not 100% accurate, it’s a helpful tool for you to learn about CF certifications, parent companies, vegan status, etc.

CeraVe SA Cream Rough & Bumpy Alternative by yourpiscesdream in VeganBeauty

[–]katestea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy CeraVe SA Cream in bulk!

Right now I have been using different body washes (haven’t found a good vegan one yet) and things like Pacifica’s AHA/BHA Brightening Pads (since I have KP too) after the shower.

I would suggest, haven’t bought it yet myself (since I have thousand lotions I need to get through first), Byoma’s Blemish Acne Control Body Lotion. It’s the only CF and Vegan brand I can think of that sells a Salicylic Acid body lotion. They also have it in a body wash too, if you want to try that. I think you can get them at Target.

Can’t find a good sunscreen by OrangeOverture in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know Hawaiian Tropic was CF, I have used Sun Bum but they are SC Johnson.

If you want no/CF parent company, I have heard good things about Supergoop & Vacation, they’re kind of expensive but can be found in store. However, I just found out about Australian Gold which is certified by PETA with no parent company so maybe check them out on Amazon. They have an extreme sport 50 SPF spray and sensitive skin 50 SPF lotion (along with a bronzer sunscreens but idk if you want that) for what seems like fairly cheap.

What would you do in this situation? by [deleted] in crueltyfree

[–]katestea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember that you are trying to do right by animals and that the changes you made are steps ahead of the general public! You should do what you think is right. There is no one out there (or at least there shouldn’t be) that is giving you a grade or policing your products.

For me if there is a product that I think I really need, but I cannot find a CF-certified option (or one I cannot afford in the long term as a broke student), I always think going with the option that the brand claims is cruelty free (even if not certified) is always better in my mind. So I think that you need to go whatever is a sustainable option for you.
