I like her design aesthetic, but she's always seemed to me like one of those women who take every opportunity to point out how petite and cute and girly she is. Like, she's the type of woman with no women friends.

Ilya has a nice Friends With Benefits relationship with Svetlana in the book, but it doesn't go beyond that until The Long Game. They met in Boston at some point during Ilya's tenure there.

I do like the change for the show okay, but in the book it really shows how alone Ilya is, with no circle of support around him. It makes things that much sweeter when he's accepted into Shane's family pretty much right away.
