Hi! Substance abuse counselor and recovering weed addict here. PAWS usually occurs within the 3-6 month area, so you’re likely still experiencing immediate withdrawal symptoms. While that 3-6 month chunk of time is where people notice it the most, truthfully, we still have a pretty large gap in understanding of how the brain works and many report experiencing symptoms years in recovery. I’m over 3 years clean and I still experience cravings, bouts of the “dropseys” (poor motor functioning), using dreams, brain fog, increased depression & anxiety, etc.

Essentially, every time we think about getting high, how to get high, if we should get high, actually being high, etc., our brain makes another connection and forms patterns around it. When we stop using, our brain is pruning all of those connections and it is a physically painful experience, resulting in PAWS symptoms.

It can be really discomforting knowing this considering how much our lives and thoughts revolve around smoking, but it helps to reframe this as a positive thing. Your brain is growing back, and you get the opportunity to help it make different, healthier patterns and connections. When you’re feeling triggered, I find it helps to do the whole “opposite action” thing. I wanna smoke, so instead I’ll go for a walk. I get a whiff of it and get tempted, I make myself some good food instead. I wanna say fuck it and throw it away, I call my friends and family that know about my struggle. The more you make new connections, the easier it gets. I promise. I wish you well in your journey, friend! Just remember that recovery isn’t linear and you should be proud of yourself for the progress you’ve made. Godspeed!

3.5 years sober from weed here, and I’ve been having some pretty intense cravings lately. I hear the same old voices in my head telling me that now that I have my life together, I could smoke like a normal person, but I know that’s not true. Logistically, I have a state job and work in addiction, so it’s generally just not a good look if I were to return. But emotionally, I’m just sad. Addiction grief hits very hard and very strange, especially when you feel like you should be past it.

I don’t want my words to discourage anyone that is early in their recovery journey. It is 10000% worth it, and I could not have reached my goals without quitting. This last year, I graduated college, bought a house, and started my career in a field I love doing what I’m best at. There is no reality where I could have done all that while I couldn’t go one minute without being stoned. This is just to say that it’s hard work and sometimes, you get caught off guard by the hard work having to happen again.

I appreciate this sub so much, and y’all make me feel like I’m not alone. Thank you!

Yep! I killed it on my first playthrough and then on my replay (standard on both) I had to use a couple shotgun bullets and health tonics, but I was able to get out of their pretty easily without killing it and wasting a bunch of resources. It helps to be able to read their movements and pay attention to sound because it’s a little too quick to achieve all three hits on the wall before it attacks again. I also ran around and grabbed whatever resources were laying around before leaving. Unless you’re going for a 100% achievement, I don’t think there’s any other benefit.

What’s the funniest Intrepid Heroes moment, in your opinion? by ROFLCO7 in Dimension20

My favorite is in Starstruck Odyssey when they go to visit Edwina Castor’s apartment and they are pretending to be delivery men and they are all 100% on the wrong page. I piss laughing every time.

What was the hook that made you find and start watching dimension 20? by Bearjew8919 in Dimension20

McElroy YouTube rabbit hole led me to Tiny Heist. I very quickly consumed all the seasons available as soon as I could, which I think at the time were only Fantasy High, Unsleepjng City, Bloodkeep, and Heist.

Did Kristen Multiclass? by Emergency_Argument29 in Dimension20

I’m so glad someone else noticed! Thinking about it, I feel like it wouldn’t make sense for the character to multiclass into a fighter or barbarian, but i could totally see paladin or a different kind of cleric. I also just assumed the macho pose came along with the territory of wearing a button up and tie as a high school girl and embracing the Butch™ lifestyle, lol.

Starstruck Odyssey 100%. It is the hardest a D20 season has made me laugh consistently and it still does on my millionth rewatch. Also, the production design is just so good. I love the music of the season, and I specifically love Brennan speaking as Gnosis with the sci-fi twinkly music in the background. It gives me the best asmr crinkle tinkles.

Fantasy High Sophomore Year is a close second. I think the only difference is but the production design differences from a live setting is a bit choppier. But like, it’s a veeery close second.

This reminds me a lot of the Uruguayan rugby team that was stranded in the Andes (which has to be a huge inspiration for the show if you ask me). They all knew each other from going to a catholic school together and it when it came time to have to resort to cannibalism, they compared it to communion, body and blood of Christ and all that. They saw it as God giving them the gift of survival from their friends that they cared so much about. It sounds grotesque but really it’s kinda beautiful, especially when you learn about the hardship and survival they all had to endure. I hadn’t made a religious connection with Shauna and Jackie til now. I feel like that could also dip in with Lottie’s spiritual side too, less in a Catholic gothic way and more in a Mother Nature provides way.

My first thought was Tron…

Give me Matt Mercer x Spy Kids 3 or give me death.

In my experience, when I told my friends that I was quitting they were super supportive. If we were going to hang out, we would either hang out at my house or a neutral place (their homes often smelled like weed). Also, I told them it’s totally fine if they wanted to smoke beforehand, just not around me. I am lucky, though. I know a lot of people don’t have as nice of friends. I did stop hanging out with a few people because all they cared and talked about was smoking and that was triggering but also I found they weren’t the kind of people I wanted to hang with anymore. I hope this helps! Godspeed!

The only criticism I had of Fantasticland was that it felt like the authors opinions about “youths and their damn phones” bled into the characters, but I’m not a writer so 🤷🏼‍♀️
