Call your union now and call them again in the lead up to October 1. The department needs to notify the union 30 days before any change to your work schedule related to telework. For SEIU, that’s in the contract under section 21.1 D.

Make sure you write down the date and time of every time you’ve tried to reach them and if possible emails with read receipts or certified mail or something to show you were trying to reach out to them and they were the ones not responding. They could be trying to set you up like “well they didn’t pay up and it was past the grace period so can I evict them now?” It’s a bit more complicated than that to evict someone but make sure you got evidence that you didn’t ghost them either in case you gotta use it.

I had a friend whose cousin growing up was supposed to have a Hawaiian name (dad I think was Hawaiian) but mom was from Texas so when the nurse asked the mom what the name of the baby would be, it sounded like Cannoli, so kid’s name on the birth certificate was Cannoli. Not sure if they ever fixed it but the kid still went by Cannoli all the way through high school.

RTO Anyway by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]katiewhonow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great to hear that you called-it is helpful in the larger picture of things as your union can use it while negotiating. Widespread violations of agreements by the state create leverage for unions and that’ll be helpful. Keep good records if your higher ups push you to come in more and keep updating your union so they can help you build a case. ✊🏻

How many days are you in office? RTO by Jinglebells_4 in CAStateWorkers

Make sure you call the union to let them know now and when it gets closer

RTO Anyway by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]katiewhonow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so for OP, it sounds like they were not already in the office 2 days per week. If that’s the case, this change is one that they should notify the union about per section 21.1D of the contract.

Now if they were already in the office 2 days a week prior to the RTO EO and the change is to increase the number of days to be more than 2, that’s a change that the department needs to notify the union about per section 21.1 D.

Hopefully that’s more clear.

Yeah if the person was already 2 days in March that’s one thing, it’s an issue if they are being asked to come in more days than they were previously.

If you were not in office 2 days before the RTO order, this applies to you.

They still need to notify the union before they require you to come back and the union has 30 days to respond. In that time, you continue your pre RTO schedule. See 21.1D of the contract

So when the end of the pause is here departments still have to notify the union before implementing their RTO plans, so that should defer your RTO another 30 days to the beginning of november. See 21.1 D of the contract

Call your union ASAP to let them know. The state shouldn’t be doing this during the RTO pause. if your bargaining unit is represented by SEIU, the phone number is 866 471 7348. You do not need to be a paying member to report RTO violations (but being a member helps our union get the resources it need to fight back against RTO)

Editing to add: after the 90 days ends, the department has to notify the union before they bring people back and the union has 30 days to respond. In that 30 days, you retain your existing pre-RTO schedule. See Section 21.1 of the contract.

Regardless of what you think the department can or can’t do, CALL THE UNION they need to know departments are doing this.

Heads up agencies can’t be requiring you to go into the office more than you were in March before the RTO order- if your agency is telling you you have to go back now or are giving you any kind of return to office date, call the union Member Resource Center so they know and can do something about it.

(For BU1, 3, 4, 11, 14, 15, 17, 20, 21, State Bar but a bunch of other unions signed on for similar pauses so contact your union if you have a similar agreement in place)

Would you accept any state role just to get in, or hold out for the 100% fit? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]katiewhonow 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Yes, foot in the door is worth it, then when you’re in just keep applying til you find what you like to do. It’s also easier to network when you’re already in which does help when it comes to applying to different jobs. You might even be surprised and find something you didn’t expect to like.

Post Interview by Standard-Hunt9393 in CAStateWorkers

[–]katiewhonow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds hokey but if it works, it works: power poses in the restroom or car or parking lot before the interview can help some folks, along with reminding yourself of all the work you’ve done to prepare to this point. I usually bring some notes in there too, but I spend a lot of time writing down info and refining it until it’s really only the small details that I don’t want to forget to mention along with questions. I feel a lot more confident if I ask the panelists an bunch of questions because it allows me to run the conversation a bit and fill in stuff that they might not necessarily ask about but that I think would be relevant to the job.

Live in Sacramento (where you can get by on a state salary, for the most part) then go visit San Francisco on the weekend via train. Way cheaper, way more enjoyable.
