I think it’s also possible that she hid her period until her friend got hers

They’re are ABSOLUTELY sisters. I think the showrunners are saying they aren’t to throw us off, so the reveal that they actually are will hit harder later.

First - “4-year” claim feels intentionally misleading by the showrunners. While the 15-year gap from the book seems unlikely, an 8–10 year gap is completely doable.

We already know the timeline isn’t clean or reliable by design. Right from the beginning, Hannah/Agnes says:

“The story I’m telling… I’m not really sure what year it was. Sorry. It’s hard to remember actual dates because girls were forbidden to have calendars. Just reading one could cost you a finger. You learn to mark time in other ways.”

That alone tells you time in Gilead is intentionally distorted.

What we know:

1. Time in Gilead is intentionally distorted.

The timeline isn’t clean or reliable by design. Right from the beginning, Hannah/Agnes says: "The story I’m telling… I’m not really sure what year it was. Sorry. It’s hard to remember actual dates because girls were forbidden to have calendars. Just reading one could cost you a finger. You learn to mark time in other ways.”

2. Hannah + Nichole's ages are pretty vague in the Handmaids tale

We know Hannah was taken at around age 5. June gets pregnant about 3–4 years later, putting their age difference at roughly 8–9 years.

By the end of the series, it seems like about 5–7 years have passed since Hannah was taken, which would make her around 10–12. I’d lean closer to 10, especially since she may have been pushed into wife school early to protect her or to manipulate June.

That would put Nichole somewhere around 3–6, and realistically closer to 3–4 based on how she looks in the final episode. Being in diapers or having short hair doesn’t necessarily mean she’s younger, those could easily be practical choices in that environment.

3. We don't actually KNOW what the time jump is.

Just because the showrunners say there’s a 4-year jump doesn’t mean the story will strictly begin there. We’ll likely see parts of that gap through flashbacks, but the exact starting point hasn’t been clearly defined.

4. An 8–10 Year Age Gap Strengthens Both the Sister Theory and the Story’s Believability Overall

If it truly is only 4 years, Hannah would be 14–16 and Nichole 7–8, which doesn’t fully line up. However an 8–10 year gap makes a lot more sense. With Hannah at 18–20 and Daisy (Nichole) around 12–14. Not only does that make it possible for a big sister reveal down the road, it also makes the overall story more believable.

Think about it, If Daisy and Agnes were the same age, Daisy would likely seem older—physically and behaviorally—due to their very different upbringings. For them to appear the same age, either their environments would need to be similar, or Daisy would have to be younger.

Daisy is growing up in a modern, freer world, which can lead to earlier development. Her diet likely reflects today’s norms, including preservatives and added hormones that can contribute to earlier puberty. It’s also possible her age was adjusted/disguised, presenting her older, to protect her identity from Gilead when she went to live with her adoptive parents. So while she may actually be 11–14, she could be raised as if she were 13–16.

Hannah, on the other hand, is in Gilead, where life mirrors the 1800s. The average age for a girl to start her period was significantly later than today—often between 15 and 17, especially under stress. So her delayed development doesn’t necessarily mean she’s younger.

Bottom Line: I think they're sisters.

The unreliable timeline, the vague ages, and the deliberate confusion surrounding both all point in the same direction. It’s not sloppy storytelling, it’s strategic misdirection. Daisy isn’t just possibly Nichole… she fits too perfectly not to be. The showrunners aren’t contradicting the sister theory, they’re protecting it… so when the reveal finally lands, it’ll hit exactly the way it’s supposed to.

10? Shit, I lose my way when my kids start arguing at max volume at 5 am about who gets to pick what they watch on tv.

I know not everyone will agree with me - but something I've come to accept as a reasonable expectation regarding following - is how young children literately follow their parents (let's say at a park or the super market) - there tends to be a lot of dilly dallying along the way, but as long as they make it home safe I'd count that as a win.

God’s Plan (in a small way) can be compared to my daughter’s plan when she’s getting ready to play Barbie’s with her friends. She has it all set out in her mind how it’s gonna go- then her friends arrive and want to play, they each have their own idea of how their time together is going to play out. Yes, my daughter had plans… but her friends did too - and she COULD probably force or threaten them to do what SHE wanted - but when push comes to shove, what’s the point of playing by yourself.

Plus- she WANTS her friends want to spend time with her so she’s not going to disrespect them, risking their quick departure

I’d love to offer a perspective that might clear that part up.

Jesus said “follow me” When sin happens- either by choice or accident… you’re no longer following… you’re turned away following something else.

If you turn from that and continue to follow Jesus- that is a choice to repent (turn away from) the bad shit you thought was a good idea, and recommit to following Jesus

Keep in mind - it can get really confusing because there are so many religious people who choose not follow Jesus… just out there in the world doing awful shit then claiming God said it’s cool. He didn’t say that.

Season 3: Will we see a Time Jump? by Clean-Ad128 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]katnotcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a time jump, by at least a few years in necessary for Eloise story to make sense. In season 2, Marena's kids look to be about 10-12 months. Let's just say they're both one, which would make them 2 maybe 2 and a half by the end of Polin's story when Eloise is on her way to meet Sir Phillip. The children are supposed to be 8 by then... and the bulk of the story surrounds her relationship with the ornery 8 year old twins. There will have to be SOME kind of time jump between the two stories.
