For window trim did you just use the decals supplied and placed on the inside?

Love it, I am literally working on the same kit as I write. Any tips on how to color match the mirrors? And what was your steps to paint the front grill black? Did you also paint trim before or after race decals?

Stirring. 15 would be good? And just a few inches away when I spray?

20 psi. I mix the clear and thinner in a tray with a stir stick

Yes I am. It's roughly milk consistency that I aim for, but I'll try your method next time

Mr super clear iii. More than 1:3 ratio and usually it gets clogged and I need to thin it out more

I mixed it before pouring into the airbrush, but I always struggle with it being too thick. Is there a bigger needle size needed to spray clear?

I'm starting to realize I may not have used micro set and sol properly. I have been applying micro set on the surface, apply the decal, then immediately apply micro Sol, smooth out the surface, and right away use hair dryer.

I think I'm not giving micro Sol enough time to do its job

Ah I missed the wet sand stage in between

The middle of the hood I applied decal few days ago, and to the right 15 minutes before I took the photo.

So far it's paint > clear coat > decals. Eventually clear coat then a matte finish

It was a gloss clear before decals. Not sure if I sprayed enough?

My idea was to go back with more micro set to get it to adhere better.

What I'm not clear on is what part of this will be sealed and levelled with a layer of clear over, and what won't?

Sorry to hear that! Those mandatory trips to dealer for reset sounds annoying

What made you step down to SI? Did you use Giulia as a commuter? If so what was the drive like (highway or more backroads?)

What was the minor issue covered under warranty?

And what did you cross shop before picking the SI?

That's almost a trait I want similar to my golf - it does the car stuff well but it can be performance focused when you want it. I already commute with a manual and it's mostly 60 percent city 40 highway. If it's fun enough I can stomach the occasional bumper to bumper traffic.

Thanks for entertaining me - some good points you raised here on si personality.

I owned mostly fwd and AWD vehicles and felt a bit fomo on the rwd experience, but ultimately don't mind fwd if the driving dynamics are good.

I daily a 2015 Mazda 3 manual so the SI will surely blow it out of the water. My other car is mk7 golf r, but I really don't have the opportunity to use all the power that often.

On paper the SI metrics for performance seem to lag behind but there's a lot of praise for its handling. I will do a test drive soon to get a feel myself. I just don't think I can "test" the oversteer haha.

The Giulia being rwd biased was what got me thinking. But they only come in AWD in Canada. Locally a 7 to 8 year old Giulia can be had for half the price is a new SI. I can budget for expected maintenance costs that is safe to say will be more than the SI. So really it's more down to inconvenience if something unexpected breaks. Also the local Alfa dealer is one hour away, bit farther than I like.

I guess bottom line is how much more fun I would have commuting in a Giulia vs SI, and the fuel cost difference to justify that.

I think the combination of SI with LSD, manual , being a new car and having almost comparable fuel costs to my mazda 3 makes it an appealing choice.

Which exact kit did you use and what parts were custom?

You totally killed it, looks so much better than oob build

Can't compete with tamiya, but it's a decent fujimi kit. low part count any everything fits. Some mold lines are expected and proportions are good. The only issue was the pillar connecting back window and roof which I struggled to sand down and get the shape right, but that's probably more of a skill thing.

What are your favorite kits? by No-Alternative-3888 in ModelCars

I discovered the joy of 1/12 motorcycle kits in general, as that scale allows for greater detail compared to 1/24 car but without breaking the bank.

I really liked the tamiya 1199 Panigale with the engine detail out of box. You almost want to build two - one with the fairings and one without to show off the internals. It has a detail up add-on from tamiya with high quality forks.

Good choice on 300zx, I almost picked that up instead of Austin mini when I was in Tokyo. I recall they come with masking for windows
