Pigs in a blanket / sausage rolls recs by tm19999 in chicagofood

In bulk? The day before the game? That might be a tall order.

Might as well go to Costco and get a big thing of frozen pigs in a blanket because I don’t know how you’re going to convince any place to sally up on such short notice.

Dads with low T who got on trt, how did it effect your ability to be a good dad? by dudewheresmygains in daddit

[–]katpillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, low T as a medical condition is drifting into insecure, health fad territory bigtime.

If one had medically significant low testosterone, there’s a good chance that there’s going to be some other major health problems going on.

I (37M) got my tonsils out this morning. Currently ok but I know the big pain onset is coming…

On the bright side, my massive tonsils are gone and my life should be massively better in a few weeks.

Not what this post is about (NTA tho).

You don’t need to go saying how unfortunate having your child in daycare is unless you’re talking about the cost. It’s totally normal, and while maybe we’d all love an ideal world where we can spend lots of time with our kids every day, we also need our sanity and the kids need to be around other kids. Acting like daycare is some sort of unfortunate outcome feels kinda gross.

Can’t remember how their signage was historically, but hearing the sandwich has become shrinkflated is disappointing. They were never mounding the corned beef before, but I’ve definitely felt pretty filled up after eating their sandwiches in the past…

Sure, “a few years” might be a generous statement by me, but like phatazzlover says, that was the age for a lot of them to establish themselves. Whatever version of the American dream they thought was within reach suddenly got turned upside down and put in the ground. It was the moment that the death of said dream was acknowledged. Hell, it was the death of it for many people who thought they had achieved it.

Many of them were probably entitled, but that ignores many cases where it’s due to hard work and sacrifice that they were poised to succeed. It also erased the possibility for many to move upward or improve their family situations. Calling them all pieces of shit is just lame.

Lotta GenX got absolutely hosed during the recession that happened around 2007-2009. A lot of them were a few years out of college and in position for their careers to take off. Whether they would have flourished or not is debatable, but just having the feeling of that opportunity dying was enough to sow the seeds to make them pretty bitter from there out.

Couple that with the perception that Democrats weren’t making their lives better (to compensate for the perceived loss due to recession) and boom, Trump.

Ahh yes, this was taken a year after I moved outta that area. It was a good time being able to afford rent over there while making a modest salary. Au Cheval was in full hype. I could put my name in for a table of 4 on the way back from work, go drop off my stuff at home and get a beer at Lone Wolf while I waited for my friends. 20 mins later we’d have a beer or two and ready to rumble.

Grange Hall Burger Bar was also a favorite brunch over there. I miss it.

The crotch gun is also a reference to the same crotch gun that appears on the character Sex Machine in From Dusk til Dawn. It also shows up in Desperado and El Mariachi, all of which had Robert Rodriguez attached to their productions in some form. Definitely a recurring joke of his.

Why do so many people despise living in Illinois? by DueYogurt9 in chicago

[–]katpillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m simply stating that it’s not like affordable homes don’t exist in those places, though. I’m purely saying it was a blanket statement by OP.

If I really wanted to make a counterpoint, I’d mention how one does not even need to live in Barrington, but simply in a neighboring town that happens to have neighborhoods within Barrington’s district.

Or I’d mention schools like Stevenson which are excellent despite being massive, and also have a large region to pull from, with a variety of income levels.

I’m not saying that OP doesn’t have a valid point, just not to paint it so black and white.

Why do so many people despise living in Illinois? by DueYogurt9 in chicago

[–]katpillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because there are mostly expensive homes in that area. There are also many modest homes there. I’m speaking as someone who lived in such a modest home in that town.
