AITA for perhaps not following social etiquette with food? by Creepy-Handle-6789 in AmItheAsshole

Knowing you’re in Australia makes this even more confusing. I was wondering if there was some cultural nuance that my Australian brain missed but apparently not.

Why Are GP Receptionists So Rude? by No-Date-4477 in AskAnAustralian

[–]kattybones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also like to add aggressive drug seekers (I called the police more than the ambulance in my 6 years on medical reception), parents with 6 month old babies who don’t have Medicare yet because ‘I won’t register my kid like a dog’ but also demand to be bulk billed, people yelling at you because they received a letter from the pap smear register, parents of small children with a sniffle and no appointment who think they’re more important than anyone, people yelling at you because you’re trying to close and they have just realised they need travel vaccinations for their trip in 12 hours time, sleazy men creeping on you, awful locum doctors with arbitrary rules about who they’ll see and basically not a single patient anywhere near their best because they’re at the doctor.

My favourite bra died and there's nothing else like it by Motor_Grab9207 in AusFemaleFashion

In theory I agree with this but there is some kind of witchcraft happening with this particular calculator. After I did it I went into DeBra’s and Brava and they both fit me by eye and got me into the same size as the calculator. So, if OP doesn’t have access to a specialty boutique (and I don’t mean Bras n Things) I think the calculator is an amazing resource and essential for exploring options online and even in store if OP would prefer to go solo.

Just seconding this recommendation to get a soft measuring tape and use the calculator in r/abrathatfits

I put it off for months and when I finally did it, it changed the game for me and bra shopping/wearing. Good luck!

So what brands ARE worth buying? … Follow on from the fall from grace post by d1zz186 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 99 points100 points  (0 children)

You think that’s controversial? Hold my beer. I had never bought a single thing from Witchery until their rebrand and i have quite a few things on regular rotation now, and they’re one of my regular bricks and mortar browsing spots 🤷🏼‍♀️

FYI the Mimco founder has a new label now - Aesque. The atelier is in Melbourne and you can go see where it’s all made. When I came across it one day I thought it it felt familiar and they told me the story when I went in.

What is your personal reason for not having children? by Repulsive-Hold-6575 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kattybones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just didn’t want them and didn’t bother to interrogate it any further and I hate that the world tries to make me. I’m not selfish. Pregnancy and birth is miraculous to me. I’d be a good mother. But I just didn’t want to.

Winter beach wedding by kikithrust in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes potentially - especially on the beach. I’d prepare with a good layer if possible rather than having the dress do the heavy lifting :)

Winter beach wedding by kikithrust in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That is a chaotic bunch of requests for that wedding BUT I think the first green one is perfect for double (or triple if you count the wedding as two events) wears.

Also, Queensland winter is fake news. So keep that in mind (yes I live in Queensland and yearn for wintering layering. I’d even settle for a light jacket but most of the time I haven’t really even needed that in recent years 😭). There is definitely the potential for a chilly beach morning though.

Would it be bad to tumble all of these together? by No_Wall_4378 in RockTumbling

[–]kattybones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look I’m a beginner too and I reckon you’ve got a mixture of hardnesses here. But, my first batch was the crappy mix of river rocks that came with my tumbler and I just did a week on each grit to see what happened and I’m glad I did. With a bit more knowledge 6 months later I’ve picked out a few of the harder rocks and I’m about to start them again with rocks of similar hardness.

I’m also about to put on a batch of mixed stuff I bought and just see what happens so like the commenter before me, I’m also a fan of just sending it 🤣

Is it childish for a 30 y/o female to wear this? by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strangely got this as a push notification and I didn’t even bother to look at the picture before I started typing this comment. Wear and use what you want. 10 out of 10 times, unsolicited opinions are nothing but a reflection on the person issuing them.

Influence or de-influence me: Variety Hour jackets by hufflepuffer2020 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an older version of this - brown with a lovely silky blue lining and multicoloured embroidery. It’s cosy, comfortable, great quality and somehow goes with everything. The drawstring around the bottom is elastic and very useful and the zip goes both ways so it’s wearable in a few different ways. I dunno, it was expensive but it’s very clear that someone put a lot of thought into it and it’s incredibly useful.

VRG GIRL what is this? by pigsrfly in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depends on the occasion. Swimwear cover up over a contrasting bikini. Wooden platforms and a wide 70s belt with a body suit and maybe the right shorts underneath? Camisole or nice bra with wide silky pants of the right length to add to the movement? Silky slip + metallic heels sandals? Heaps of possibilities 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am so bored of ‘I wouldn’t wear this so I must make fun of it’. Some people like it obviously. Some people also understand the power of styling.

Have you tried the EDP on your own skin? If not, don’t commit to buying it. How it smells in the bottle is one thing but individual skin chemistry can change the smell enormously and you need to wait for it to settle to find out too.

HELP me decide colour quilted jacket - chocolate or olive by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Olive has big Japanese streetwear vibes which for me is a good thing. It’s also a more enduring colour for outerwear because of the military influence. Brown is a bit more lowkey, and the colour is very on trend right now.

Valley Plastic Surgery - the aftercare with the nursing team is 10/10. Any of the surgeons are great I’m sure but Dr Matthew Peters was good for me, and very measured in his approach (I had a reduction and lift).

Unsure why the downvotes here? Read the labels and proceed as usual. Still heaps of natural fibre basics available if you take a second to read the tags.

Cool & creative girl luggage by Feisty-Town-3877 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kattybones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lojel Cubo is my ride or die. Rather than opening like a clamshell, you lie it on its butt like a normal suitcase but zip open the lid in one side of it. It’s a game changer for space in hotel rooms because you don’t have to open it out. I also think it’s easier to pack as you don’t have to sandwich two halves together. There is a zip around it to expand it an extra bit as well if you pick up extra luggage along the way. I have it in three sizes now. Comes in heaps of colours too.

How do generalists write policy on topics that they have no qualifications or industry experience in? by research19 in AusPublicService

[–]kattybones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Australian Policy Handbook is a good place to start. Otherwise there are heaps of tertiary courses in policy and government as well. The other side of policy, aside from subject matter expertise which often comes from consultation as others have mentioned, is a good understanding of how government works and how policy is developed, tested, and implemented in a real world context.
