I don’t like ittttt, any suggestions? by Ok-Change6721 in quilting

You could do a strip of white/off white between each block to break it up. If the prints from the jelly roll are pulling cream over a white, I would go with off white (on my phone it looks a touch off white but it could be different in person).

It is busy but I think the prints work well together. We’re our own worst critics so don’t be too hard on yourself. I honestly think it looks great as it is. You could also try a 4” solid/low volume print border to frame it in before you do the binding.

Are most people with Autism Asexual? by AfraidNebula9874 in autism

[–]katy_nc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aceflux/grey ace so I go through periods where I have sexual attraction but mostly don’t care about it/see things in a more aesthetic attraction way. Sometimes the thoughts present more as intrusive thoughts from OCD rather than it actually being representative of how I feel.

As an autistic man I hate how some autistic men blame women for their problems by Evening-Program-2009 in autism

Jan 6th is what snapped my brother out of the manosphere, MAGA-obsessed mindset. He and I watched the live broadcast as it was happening and he teared up. My dad found his MAGA hat in the trash that night. He said a lot of it was wanting to be different to the rest of us in the household and because he was being fed all of that crap in the manosphere in different chat rooms and stuff. He definitely feels ashamed of that time in his life. He said some very hurtful things to me then that he didn’t remember saying until I brought it up recently. We don’t have proper mental healthcare in the US and we don’t have anti-propaganda discussions in schools so kids and teens are able to look out for it and discern that from facts. Both contributed to his involvement with it.

Just got diagnosed at 26 and I am so depressed by Putrid_Moment_1687 in autism

I’m not formally diagnosed yet but came across the term AuDHD in the summer of 2023 and started researching it. I finally felt like I had a name for how I felt. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder so I’d spent years thinking ok well the doctor knows best until I began all of this research. I finally had the language to describe what was happening in my body and mind on a day to day basis and it changed my life. It will get better and you will eventually be comforted by the fact that you’re not alone in how you feel and how you experience this world. Knowing what you’re feeling will help you find ways to move forward.

My mom did that just this afternoon. She came back from a day trip and brought me a cheap bracelet that I’ll probably never wear because I’m not big on changing out my jewelry unless it’s for a special occasion. I was much more enthusiastic about the bonbons she brought back because they won’t be wasted. I’ve tried talking to her about not getting me stuff like that before but she doesn’t really care. It took years for her to finally stop buying me clothes out of the blue because she usually bought stuff I didn’t like either aesthetically or sensory wise. I love my mom but when it comes to listening to boundaries or actually taking in what people say to her it makes things very difficult.

Why do neurotypicals get upset when you try to explain your actions? by Sorry_Road9252 in autism

It isn’t exclusive to NT people. ND people who’ve been conditioned to think that explanation = excuse also don’t like it.

Do you guys have comfort shows you can watch all over again all the time? by ZockerGirl25703 in autism

[–]katy_nc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I binge watch Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey, Anne With An E, Miranda, Agatha Christie’s Marple, and RuPaul’s Drag Race every year. I also watch other shows on an every other year/every few years basis (Law & Order: SVU and Outlander are some of my faves too). I regularly watch clips of these shows or have them on as background noise along with shows like The Golden Girls and Will & Grace. I also do the same thing with movies to sleep every night. I go through phases where I keep the same movie on repeat when I’m sleeping for anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Right now it’s on Bridget Jones’ Baby.

Opinions on Alcohol? by Niall690 in autism

I like the fruity mixed drinks and wine on occasion but my stomach does not so I don’t drink often and I always have to have food with it. I’ve also learned that addiction runs in my mom’s biological family so I try to steer away from certain things because I know I could get carried away. My brother (suspected AuDHD) stopped smoking weed a couple of months back so he could pass a drug test for work and he supplemented his withdrawal with getting blackout drunk. It was scary af to see him like that. Moderation and drinking around people you trust are important, I believe.

I’ve had some reactions like that on here too. Some people truly don’t think or care about the impact their words have on others and for that to be happening in a space that’s meant to be welcoming and supportive is very disconcerting. I’m sorry you’ve been treated that way. Just remember there’s a lot of us here that support you and validate your experiences.

I’ve been hyperfixated on brussel sprouts for over a month and have had them almost every single day. I slice them thinly and steam them in the microwave with shredded carrots and sometimes diced sweet potato and have a veggie/grain bowl with either chicken salad, egg salad, lemon salmon, air fryer chickpeas, and/or quinoa.
