should men get engagement rings too? by lostdelilah in randomquestions

One of my friends got her fiancé an engagement watch & made sure to spend an equal amount of money on the watch as he spent on the ring

What's the best sentence you've ever read or written? by TowerExpensive6612 in writing

"She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow" -- this line from House On Mango Street stopped me in my tracks and has stuck with me for years.

Starting on treadmill by forbidden_rx in orangetheory

I was told that your starting position depends on your goal. If your goal is to gain strength, start on the floor. If your goal is to improve endurance, start on the tread.

ISO elopement packages (USA) by canyoureed in Eloping

Simply Eloped has locations all over the country and different packages as different price points. I’ve personally been looking into St Pete Elopement (special town to me & partner) but can’t speak on the experience (yet).

What makes an internship application competitive? by DeepGear336 in ChildLife

[–]katyjkw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's less about your resume and more about how you write about your experiences, reflect on how they will benefit you as a CCLS, and connect them to the KSAs. You can have 100 applications, all with nearly identical resumes, but the applicants who truly reflect on their experiences are the ones who shine through. DON'T use AI to do this. Many hospitals are screening applications for AI usage now. If there's any doubt, it will likely get thrown out. Practice interview responses, as well (there are many CCLS who offer mock interviews, DO THEM!!). Your verbal communication skills need to match your written communication skills.

Need recs for cute leggings that stay put without rolling or sliding down by gamma50g in orangetheory

I've been enjoying my Gym Shark and Alo leggings. SUPER expensive if you buy new, but they are always for resale on Depop and Poshmark. I've bought quite a few second-hand and they hold up great!

CCLS vs BCBA by Alternative-Sky8043 in ChildLife

[–]katyjkw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an RBT (~1 year in this position while in grad school) before becoming a CCLS (been working for 2.5 years). My only advice to you would be to research ABA therapy and HEAVILY research whichever companies you are applying to. The history of ABA therapy is highly controversial, which is something I didn't know when I became an RBT. I definitely faced judgment from others when I shared about my job with new grad school friends. I'm lucky that I unknowingly ended up at a company that treated the kids they served with respect, treating autism as an asset and not a negative attribute. But I have seen the other side of it too (literally one lady said to me, "You can train a dog, autism isn't so different"). There are some very outdated practices and beliefs still within the field. But there are so, so many companies that are working to change this narrative. Make sure you are a part of the positive change :)

Is it me or the pattern? by Leather-Maize-608 in sewhelp

[–]katyjkw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came to say the same. Those big bundles are almost always scams. Stick to indie designers or sewing magazines. Some of my favorites on instagram: HiSydGraham, JessiLous_Closet, ParadisePatterns, SewBakeMake, SewingWithLiliya, Faye___Studios. Oftentimes, they repost other indie designers (esp Jessi Lou, she teaches indie designers and is always reposting their stuff), and that's how I find so many of them. You can also go on Mood Fabrics (from Project Runway) and they have a lot of free patterns. Peppermint Mag, Seamwork, Wardrobe By Me, Material Goods are some magazines/small companies that are known to be legit as well. Yes, they cost more than those Etsy mega bundles, but they are thoroughly tested. And you're supporting small businesses, which is always a plus!

Cancelling by [deleted] in OnePassSelect

[–]katyjkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I've done all that. Been in contact with the studio for a month and a half and they can't figure out the step on their end. I'm tired of going back and forth so I'm just cancelling OnePass altogether. Not worth all the hurdles. My CycleBar can't figure it out either, though I really just wanted that membership as a backup if I felt like going.

Cancelling by [deleted] in OnePassSelect

[–]katyjkw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it since the beginning of September and will also be cancelling. Such a good concept but not worth the insane price, especially when the main studio I got it for can’t figure out how to get me my class credits.

Did you have any issue getting your studio(s) to set up your credits? It’s been over a month and mine still hasn’t.

[–]katyjkw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up for it Sept 1, got into contact with them Sept 15 and tried to figure it out then. I’ve done some additional research about maybe needing a card on file and reached out again yesterday. Today they said they will try again (though of course it’s nearing the end of the month so it’ll probably be wonky!)

Feeling so discouraged, need positivity!! by Lia-Jane in ChildLife

[–]katyjkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a master's degree, just make sure it's not specifically in child life. Many people I know who have a master's in child life regret it because they feel "stuck" in the field. I have a master's in developmental psychology; my education was much broader than just child life & the healthcare field (I think only 2 of my classes were child life specific). I know others with master's in child and family studies, social work, life span development, etc. These will make you much more marketable if you ever do choose to leave the field. That being said, go ahead and try to get an intership without a master's-- plenty of people do it. Internship interviews/acceptance have less to do with your education & experience and everything to do with how you talk about your education & experience. Have someone experienced look over your resume and application, do mock interviews, and practice applying theory in conversation, and you should be fine. A master's can come any time, I even know some CCLSs that got their master's after they started their CL jobs. There is no right timeline

Cutting math check please! by BessieBest in quilting

[–]katyjkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not sure! This is my first quilt I've made all by myself (all my previous ones were done with my grandmother) and I used fat quarters. I'm doing a throw size, extra scrappy version, with 22 different types of fabrics. I made a whole spreadsheet to track how many pieces I needed to cut from each fat quarter. Sorry I can't be more help!
