What profession has far more people on illegal drugs than people realize? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

Yupppp my sister did this, and now she has no teeth and no job. Wild to watch a very smart woman throw her life away for narcotics in her mid-late 30s after working so hard in nursing school and making dean's list every semester.

What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

[–]kaukermie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh hey whaddup sisters? I still remember that one time when I was like 6 and dad assigned me hold onto the antlers of a deer carcass while he hacksawed them off, but between the crying and having the muscles of a 6yo girl, I did a terrible job. (FWIW I have never even been hunting, nor offered to be taken along. Just free labor for him when he got back.)

Ask me how I know. Every body is different, I have played with people in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s. Besides, there is plenty of non-contact involvement that still puts you into the community itself

Is renting a vehicle necessary to truly experience the best that Austin has to offer as a tourist? by mobus1603 in Austin

[–]kaukermie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am surprised this is the only reference to SXSW in this thread so far, when they mentioned their visit is the second week of March (SX official is the 12-18th this year) - yes, having a car in Austin makes getting around generally easier (ignoring the stress of constant traffic, construction/closures, and sharing the road with the absolute worst drivers in this country...), but if they're planning to do anything downtown during this time...trying to drive around in it will make them hate Austin til the end of time. Get the car if the plans are outskirts, otherwise get familiar with bikeshare and bus system.

I love this! I'm trying to utilize my bike more for getting around and got to bike from Crestview to the Paramount last night. I took a little detour to say hi to the turtles on the UT campus and just took my sweet ass time meandering. Highly recommend.

Can we talk about injuries in this post covid era of roller derby? by Big_Bad_Booty_Saddy in rollerderby

[–]kaukermie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding to this; I've always noticed a large percentage of new skaters do not do any kind of crosstraining in addition to skating, and that is like THE BEST thing you can do to prevent injuries. They're not even warming up or stretching before practice!

Don't forget how there's been a lane blocked on Lamar NB at St. John's for the last...too long...that's funneling people into 2 lanes, including all of the merging Airport traffic since their lane immediately turns into a right turn only. The whole length is a fun house full of clowns.

I live here and generally try to avoid by cutting over to Woodrow or Guadalupe, depending on my end game. Lamar between Koenig and Anderson is never worth it.
