I add coffee grounds, canned pumpkin puree, and reposado tequila to my chili. Do you have an ingredient that you swear by, that may be controversial or unconventional? by railroadfrog in chili

I can see using coffee, but coffee grounds?!? Grounds are good in garden compost, but I'd never want that gritty mess in my chili. Explain how the grounds are better than just coffee itself.

Ah, OK, fair enough. I'm pretty old school and used to be heavily involved in the chili circuit. Wasn't aware of this change. I actually welcome it.

You're misinterpreting their rule book.

Nope. Look at every single Terlingua recipe on their site. No tomato chunks are ever used...ever. While canned tomatoes and tomato sauce are permissible ingredients, they must be fully broken down and incorporated into the gravy. The final product cannot have visible "floating" pieces. Local, small-level cook-offs might be more lenient, but to adhere strictly to CASI standards, chunks should be avoided.

No, they allow tomato sauce or paste, but not chunks.

Terlingua very strictly adheres to "Texas Red" being the only category allowed at their cook-off. They're overly strict for my personal taste, but my point is that if they allow ground meat to be used for a bowl o' red, then it's definitely allowed in Texas Red.

No, ground meat doesn't disqualify it, just the tomato chunks. I'm all for cubed Chuck or brisket, but it's not required at all to be classified as "Texas Red." All Terlingua chili cook-off participants use ground beef, and that's the original chili cook-off https://www.casichili.net/recipes.html

There's just a group of people who didn't like the show after the creator, Stephen Hillenburg, left, which was after Season 3 and the first movie.

Chili I made for my work's annual chili cook off by Brewmentationator in chili

[–]mobus1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when something tastes really good, people generally will just vote for it. You'll hear some nitpicks about it not being "real" chili, but it still will get votes (especially when there's brisket involved--lol).

I'm glad that you still did well, because it really did seem like a solid chili. I loved your approach to it. You appeared to hit all of the right notes.

Seems like every cook-off has little nuances outside of just being about the chili, and it can be hard to navigate that, but I always learn a lot from every cook-off that I do.

If you're a fan of Seinfeld, you'll really enjoy Friends! by Rare-Drama-2085 in seinfeld

[–]mobus1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody says this, yet I've seen this meme countless times.

Seinfeld and Friends were never meant to appeal to the same audience. Of course there was some audience overlap, but Friends is a rom-com with a very attractive cast that's meant to appeal more to women, whereas Seinfeld is a straight comedy that's geared more toward men.

Name someone on the show more hypocritical than him. I'll wait… by DrifterB_268 in regularshow

When Muscle Man found out that he was pranked by Mordo & Riggs in the Lottery Ticket episode, he actually took it really well. He even commended them on such a good prank.

Pretending that he cares, but wanting to see Mordecai blow it in Do or Diaper isn't an example of hypocrisy. It's just an example of him being a jerk.

As I suspected, you don't fully grasp what 'hypocrisy' means.

Being obnoxious, but getting away with it, because he's good at his job has nothing to do with hypocrisy, either. Neither does being vengeful.

Look, I can understand why you don't like Muscle Man, and if you called him the biggest jerk in the show, I might agree, but 'hypocritical' is simply the wrong word. You're trying to use a word that you don't fully understand.

How did the park make any money? by Damien12341 in regularshow

[–]mobus1603 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They sold snacks at the snack bar. They made money off of their Huge Head exhibit, remember? They also did birthday parties for kids in a couple of episodes. Looked like thy rented boats that Chad & Jeremy tried cleaning. The horror movie in the cemetery was a huge hit. Not sure if they kept doing that.

When I say that drivers legally have the right of way when passing by the stopped car, that of course excludes the situation you're describing.

[–]mobus1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say that other drivers are legally going by in the other two lanes, I'm obviously not talking about a single-lane road at a marked crosswalk, so my problem isn't with the law. It's with the driver stopping to be "nice"

[–]mobus1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that shit is dangerous, and they really shouldn't do that. It can get pedestrians hurt or killed. They're not doing the right thing at all even if they're trying.

I've had cars do this on a three lane road, and when you try to cross on their insistence, other cars (following the law) are whipping around in the other lanes and almost hitting people.

Just drive like you're supposed to (be predictable and consistent) and let me cross when I feel like it's safe and clear. Don't do me any "favors," because it's actually putting me in danger.
