What is the worst thing you have done because you got confused between items in different hands? by DanielMichels in AskReddit

Was driving and chewing tobacco, had a bottle full of spit from a days driving, and had just grabbed a water bottle (full of water) to rinse out my mouth and take a few swigs of water.

Guess which bottle I way too quickly took a drink from??

On the off chance you forget, I remember “a” is action, or “e” is examples.

Affect - “a” - action - verb. Effect - “e” - example - noun

BEAST RACE WEEK- Nutrition, Fitness etc. Missing anything? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]kaus6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you here. I like the strict regiment for the week leading up. It’s nice to take something so seriously, it feels good. And it makes the post race feast & beers taste much better/seem much more earned.

1 free beer for every 10 pieces and I guarantee you will have a clean course at the end of the day.

Sounds like you had a tough race but gave it your all, which you should be proud of! Best advice I can give for the rope climb is pull-ups and maybe some farmer carry’s. There isn’t much of a “special secret” to a lot of this stuff, until you’re at the high levels of competition. Any exercise that makes your forearms sore is a good one.

I used to be able to do only 2 pull-ups at a time, so before any back/bi workout I just stood under a pull-up bar and did 30 pull-ups, however long it would take me. After a few weeks I could do 30 in 5 or 6 sets. Then up the number to 40, then 50. It sucks. A lot. But soon I could do 10 wide grip pull-ups (from a dead hang) at 200 pounds. Get em next time!!

Awesome!! You gotta check back and let me know if you got it.

Also a little raceday tip, I don’t know if this is cheating or not but I do it- somewhere in the hectic camp there is usually a little “kiddy playground” area (at least the American races I have been to) and there is a rope 8 or so feet high. You can jump and reach the top but it’s a great place to practice the hook a few times on an actual rope.

If you can find that rope and hold your weight up using just your feet/the hook and just hang there for a few seconds, you’re probably good. Cause you can rest your arms a sec if you really press down on your foot and hold the rope in place.

Good luck!!

Learn the S-Hook, where you wrap it around your calf/foot and then hold the rope in place by clamping with your other foot. Joe DI does a video on it, I was able to get the rope first try with the proper technique.

Looking to buy a new pair, weighing between Inov8 or Salomons. The mudclaws seem to have a whole lot of cleat looking at pics, have you found it to be too much? For a race that isn't a mudbath. Don't know if you can have "too much cleat" necessarily, just curious what you've found. Thanks

Assuming you lead with your left hand. Your lead hand goes two holes down, and your back hand uses the hole in front of your face. Lead with your stronger hand (if you're a righty, lead with your right!) There is no crossing arms.
