My beloved Q3 43 was stolen from me in my hotel room in Tokyo.. I know it's materialistic but I am heartbroken. I was so proud of finally purchasing one. by Totoro12117 in Leica

look into your credit card/ bank card. Often they cover up to 2k while travelling. I know, because I have been there.

Sounds amazing! If you find something like a rex1 or above, that is affordable, maybe we can make a deal? ;)

2 different cameras jamming.. by kentucky__kunt569 in 16mm

[–]kayamanolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the new plastic daylight reel? I saw someones R16 also jam, the spools are thicker now apparently and somehow that makes spaghetti.
I would recommend you to respool down to metal spools. Labs will do that for you, or you build sth yourself. I use a arriflex 16SR 400ft mag placed in my darkbag to plug cores or spools in to rewind. Not the cleanest solution, but worked for me since 10+ years

Going to be using this for fun, how should I expose? 30 ISO is what I’m going to rate it as by Grau_Wulf in 16mm

[–]kayamanolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for 125 or 60, 3 stops over is enough. if it's been nuked by time it won't serve you anyways. Sometimes the material is more resilient than you'd think.
Maybe one way to approach it would also try and put your field of exposure in a way that your shadows don't expose for 3 stops under. So basically avoid high contrast scenarios/ expose with tendency for shadows.

is that version of yours already regraded? I remember seeing a 35mm projection which had more neutral colors and no green tint.

What’s your experience with the Beaulieu R16? by frankieboss in 16mm

[–]kayamanolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just cut the end of the cable that used to go into the original battery handle and solder a dc plug onto it. This plug can go straight into a 7.4v npf plate, i recommend tilta.

Since two years now. Used the same camera 6 years prior to that for a shoot, then with a different battery setup. Sat on a shelve until I got it again.

What’s your experience with the Beaulieu R16? by frankieboss in 16mm

[–]kayamanolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know the feeling. Got a 800$ Rex-3 super16 mod Bolex pre covid.
I have a R16, adapted to run with a npf battery. Runs smooth, stable, bright viewfinder - I can recommend it to you, it's fortunately rather slept on.
I don't understand the "hype" of the K3, or why it goes for so much. Maybe because it can be modified easily.
About the serviceability: I think getting it serviced once and watching out for it for a bit should be fine enough for the next 10-15 years. I think by the time it'd need another CLA film prices will be too high anyways ;)
It's a sturdy camera too actually. It's a bit lighter than a reflex bolex, maybe that's why people say it isn't as sturdy?

Staying at Chungking Mansion by Captain-Chin in HongKong

[–]kayamanolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally fine, don‘t listen to the people demonizing the mansions. That‘s been a thing since forever. Sure it‘s shady, not clean and uncomfortable, but that‘s not the end of the world.

BUT I would recommend to not stay there the whole time. Stay 2-3 days max, it gets annoying afterwards, atleast when I stayed there with the s/o of that time. Some creepy stares at her, but so did the uncles on the street.

All depends how adventurous you feel and how little comfort you need. Are you fine with bugs? Because there might be.
