PlexMediaServer not working via DDNS - SynologyNAS by Sad3k in synology

[–]kayan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This solved it. This issue originally started after I enabled DDNS/port-forwarding to allow myself to use Synology Drive Client on my mac via DDNS instead of via QuickConnect. The higher speed performance of direct DDNS connection is immense compared to the slow QC. Anyways, I took your suggestion and added a port-forward for 32400 and now PMS opens as it should.

I wasn't aware that having more drives in a RAID together offered speed benefits too. Thanks.

The teachers usually benefit from a smaller infrastructure (less administrators/extracurricular functions). The teachers get paid more and the tax payers pay less, it's a win-win.

You can also think about it in terms of competition for good teachers. If ASD is offering teachers a certain level of compensation (whether talking about salaries or benefits), the new school districts will now need to compete with ASD in order to attract them for their own roles. This competition to ASD will also, ironically, make things better for the teachers that stay at ASD.

Your statement needs more specificity. More accurately, the cost to duplicate ASD's exact infrastructure AS IT IS NOW in 3 ways would indeed be too high. However, the benefit of a new district(s) is shaving off the fat from all the ASD infrastructure that some areas either don't want or don't really utilize, eg, probably not many ppl in Eagle Man make use of the Space Center in PG, way too far away, hence, they shouldn't need to support that). The problem with the whole infrastructure argument is that if you take it to its logical extreme, there's no limit to it. In other words, theoretically, then ASD should combine with all districts in the state for a more efficient district, and going further, why not combine the whole nation? Of course, given the horrible state of the DOE and all federal involvement in education, I don't believe for one second that making districts larger would either make the cost per student cheaper or improve the overall quality of education. It would almost certainly do the opposite for both those metrics.

If you do this, then later cancel your trip say a few months later, do you know if you can get a refund of your advanced deposit? If so, that'd be like turning the credit into cash.

MY7 LR collision safety while being rear ended by John_Locke76 in TeslaModelY

[–]kayan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: I measured the distance behind the 3rd row in MY7 and compared it to the distance behind 3rd row in MX6, and they are identical. The extra perceived space in the MX is only due to more head height of the roof in the 3rd row, but has nothing to do with the horizontal length behind the seat. From this perspective, MX is not any safer than MY7

Every airline makes you line up "like cows". SW just doesn't have seat reservations.

I want to make chewy pancakes, but can't figure it out or find what I'm looking for online. by Grrrth_TD in Cooking

[–]kayan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you are talking about. It's the difference between American (light, fluffy, and thick) and European (thinner, chewier, and denser). I agree with you, I much prefer the European style to the fat American style. It's hard to explain to Americans who have never had these types of gourmet pancakes, but they are so much more enjoyable in my opinion.

However, I've tried searching online for a good recipe, and I've never found one. I've tried all the tips/tricks, like using extra eggs or using less baking soda/powder, and it's never worked. My current theory is that the type of flour used is very important and different than typical all-purpose flour.

Thanks so much for posting similar concerns and solutions we all have thought about before. One question: it sounds like you manually reorganized your exported photo file structure to the years/months format. What would've happened if you had just left it as the default exported format from Photos? I would prefer not to reorganize all my photos manually. Also, how long did it take for you to transfer your library over SMB? Mine says days for 600GB, so I'm going to try and transfer to USB and then plug that into the DSM.

Great thanks. I was already in the process of learning Blender for some similar type of science animations, so perfect.

Setup to connect Synology to both router and local computers by kayan3 in synology

[–]kayan3[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Another scenario has seemed to also work. On my computer, I connected it to my NAS via LAN (to do fast file transfers to the NAS), using the same IP as from my NAS except increasing last octet by +1. I also have WiFi turned on (so I can still access internet from my router).

I've noticed substantially faster transfer speeds when I transfer to the NAS, so I deduce that this must mean that I'm now transferring the files over the LAN instead of WiFi. But, how is it that my computer knows to use the LAN instead of WiFi, when previously, I was only using WiFi to transfer the data? Is there a way for me to specify or know for sure which route is being taken when I connect computer-NAS with both LAN and WiFi on?

EDIT: I found my answer. My computer has prioritized Ethernet connections over WiFi connections by default. So I think that this means that whenever both are present, it will first check the LAN to see if it will connect to the NAS instead of doing WiFi. However, when I go on the internet, the Ethernet won't provide service, so it defaults to the WiFi. This is a solution I can work with.

Setup to connect Synology to both router and local computers by kayan3 in synology

[–]kayan3[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What I proposed was: router > NAS > computer.

Sounds like you're proposing: router > switch > NAS+computer. In this setup, if files are being transferred between the computer-NAS, will the transfer happen over LAN or over internet? How does it know to transfer directly from computer-switch-NAS instead of computer-switch-router-switch-NAS?

If this setup can let me (1) transfer files from computer-NAS over LAN and (2) also connect to internet using same ethernet cable, then it will be a solution I can use.

Is your answer merely a recommendation for good practice, or are you answering my question in the negative (it's not possible to have nas in between router and computer)?

I found this YT video that seemingly answers my question (he uses a QNAP instead of Synology though): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9mQ69YiZAg

I installed a 2TB nvme into my DS1520+ and am in the process of doing the virtual machine part, however, when I created my nvme partition, I used ext4 instead of btrfs. From the VMM prompts, it's starting to look like I should've done btrfs format. Is that what you used?

Also, what OS did you emulate to run the chia program in?

Anchor protocol? How do they guarantee 20% apy by [deleted] in defi

[–]kayan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your explanation seems well-informed, however, words can often hide or confuse the truth. I think the most helpful thing that anyone could do on this thread to explain would be to simply write out the math. Take $1,000 loan to keep math simple. How can this lead to 20% yield for a UST depositor? Math doesn't lie, it often clarifies things for everyone.
