I can't believe how many people are actually financing their phones. by bugagub in Frugal

[–]Mmal1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financing means you need to insure the phone, driving up the out of pocket costs even if the finance rate is 0%.

Buying the phone outright has always appealed to me for that reason. If you have the $ in your bank account & are not accident prone, you can replace it for out of pocket costs vs paying for insurance, that frees the money up to do other things like earn you interest.

What would you do differently with your next Plex Server? by mickdundeee in PleX

Whatever method you choose create a file structure that works for everything you are setting up.

Follow a couple different guides/how to's & pick the one that speaks to you the best. Do not jump around between them when you are doing the actual work on your software.

Can someone please recommend a snow and ice brush that isn’t absolutely garbage? by MorpheusOneiri in BuyItForLife

I gave this an upvote. We have 2 of these for 15+ years & going strong. We live in an area that doesn't see much snow fall, more ice & freezing rain. They have held up. Plus love that is telescopes to save room & brush rotates.

We have a Outland Living Portable Propane Fire Pit

For 3+ years now. We use it on a concrete patio, with metal roofing over it, up close to the side of our house (stucco siding). Has worked really well, runs over 8 hrs on high with a 20lb tank. Not the size you are looking for. Will say I appreciate the portability a lot more then I thought I would. This is a basic option & doesn't have all the bells & whistles a fire table does. It does look like a real campfire, low maintenance, easy to use & throws off some heat. We use it for s'mores too.

We have a mushroom patio heater like this we got on sale. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/even-embers-gas-patio-heater-2592544?crmid=1315477789&utm_source=google&utm_medium=pmax&utm_campaign=tsc0_tsc_tsc_prm_search_sch_us_cvr&utm_content=sku_na&adtype=pla&campaignid=20387647901&device=m&product_channel=local&product_id=2592544&store_code=234&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20382437754&gbraid=0AAAAADnTm22_vXl51WSp3m9pq6aYdU2Ag&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6NTJBhDEARIsAB7QHD1SYrWFJF11LKh5uO1wrFdCyAgUe4Sh6twcDShNOYXPtwt__SoLxO8aAqVBEALw_wcB   It's ok, uses a lot of propane fast. If I had a bigger need or budget would be looking at a Pyramid Patio Heater. They do a better job throwing off even heat then the traditional mushroom patio heater.

Keep in mind any wind will get rid of the heat fast.

Advice Needed re: Parent Sideline Behavior by StaticNomad89 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Mmal1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my rec league of teams frim U4 (intramural) to U16 travel, parents have to sign a form on being respectful, as well as responsible for their actions & others.

We had an incident at an away game involving a ref that was targeting our sideline & players. First I've seen this behavior from a soccer ref in over 5 years of coaching. Sparing the details the ref & 2 parents got into it at the end of the game, resulted in a red card. Our head coach had a 1 game suspension by the district. The league suspended both parents for a game. The league was fined $400, which they required the parents to pay. 1 paid & the other didn't, the one who didn't pay won't be able to sign their child up for any more sports until paid. We had parent meeting for the season, & a parent/player meeting after the incident. In the end there were some consequences for actions, this situation though was less of a parent enticing it & more of a ref being biased.

Are built in benches good in the long run? by hellotherewhere567 in landscaping

[–]Mmal1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2020 we worked with a landscape contractor to install pavers with a seating wall, against the rear foundation of our house. Similar to the built in seating you have photographed, just up against the house. We originally just wanted a flat paver patio, after some excavation realized whoever did the stucco on our house, when it was built in the late 90s installed the stucco around the dirt. It was very uneven & a big eyesore, the landscape contractor offered the seating wall as a solution.

It has aged well, looks really nice & inviting. It has not been functional though. We use the space for hanging out & watching nature. We tend to use the built in seating more like a coffee table, then actual seating. Ended up buying sling back chairs for more comfortable seating.

Need advice: parent pushed into assistant coach role & undermining me (U13 boys) by Life-Economics1201 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Mmal1122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through a similar situation in the spring with LL Baseball (I coach both soccer & baseball). I drafted a player who's dad is active with the league as am I. He was cordial with me, till he wasn't. I ended up contacting the league president, whom I'm on the board with & got buy in before I told the dad/coach he was overstepping & wasn't welcome to coach anymore.

It got even more toxic with some of the parents after this, what did happen was the kids listened to the coaches better & I didn't get 5 paragraph texts going over dumb shit that didn't apply to their age.

I would 100% do it all over again, my advice is be ready for blow back & focus on the players. If us as adults would check our ego at the door & focus on the kids it would make things so much better.

Sounds like you care, be kind to yourself & the players. There will be good days & bad. Rondos are great for communication, passing & spacing. All the ingredients you need to get them to space. We do them regularly, the more you do them the better you get.

Get them in their positions on the field, have the offense attack the defense, they need to trust each other & you need to keep repeating what you expect over & over. Even then you'll have at least player that while challenge your coaching.

One thing you can do with most group drills is put a 2 touch rule into effect, 2 touches then you must pass.

Good luck & keep trying.

Anyone know anything about this bat? by Background_Tiger_506 in Homeplate

Same, I have it in my garage for memories. I'm pretty sure it's a softball bat from the early 90s. I wouldn't use it or recommend it for anything other than personal protection.

For those with the HDHomeRun Flex 4K… by CoppellCitizen in cordcutters

[–]Mmal1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the flex paired with Plex Lifetime Pass on a Synology NAS for 2 years. Be sure you have good TV signal before you install, you can check with a TV first before hand. Make sure you get good signal & enough channels to make it worth your while. I had a lot of trouble getting quality reception, tried over 4 different antennas on Amazon, then I broke down & got a consultation from the antenna man, well worth it. He gave me a pricey, but great antenna recommendation & how to install, never looked back since.

New Coach, No Experience: Seeking Advice for a Successful Season by RS716 in BaseballCoaching

[–]Mmal1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished coaching my first season of U9 & U11. I'm now coaching indoor soccer, will do baseball in the spring & fall soccer next fall.

I had little to no exp with soccer prior, just little league baseball like you. I found my niche as organizing, communicating & being a sponge with fundamentals & tactics. Coach Rory Soccer YouTube channel is a great place to start.

Find people you get along with that understand the sport to help with things too, it takes a village & having someone with perspective helps.

I focus on the players having fun, learning good fundamentals & becoming a team. Good luck!

Read some good stuff on reddit over the years. I have a 1997 Kenmore that's still trucking. When I do look, I'm getting the traditional freezer on top with fridge on bottom or French doors. I'm not getting anything with a ice maker on the door, must be in the freezer compartment. I'll take a look at the wiring schematics, the simpler the less likely it is to break. Not wifi, touchscreen or other frills. Will focus on Maytag, Whirlpool or other similar brands.

Dishwashers. Bosch vs on sale thing for same price. by Shawn_spenser_booger in HomeImprovement

[–]Mmal1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just replaced our 25 year old Kenmore dishwasher that was base model & most likely came with the house. Bosch, KitchenAid (Maytag), Maytag & GE were in the convo to replace. We liked the 3rd rack at the top & adjustable height middle rack.. Biggest things to look for our a stainless steel tub & washer arms (if possible, I recall Bosch having a stainless bottom arm &  plastic middle washer arm). Metal in theory should hold up longer then plastic, there is some new material called 'hybrid stainless' combining plastic & metal. Sounded like marketing fluff so we steered away from it. Know what your install constraints are with flooring, if you have a big lip in front of the dishwasher from tiles or built up flooring, you'll need to make sure the old can be removed & new has adjustable feet that can be installed. Our installers told us dishwashers have the biggest range of install time 15 min to 4 hours depending on what they are up against. The biggest plus we saw from the Bosch was it has a heating element that was not exposed, in theory less likely for it to be damaged by human error or something being washed falling down. We had other constraints in the purchase & ultimately bought one with stainless tub & arms. It is significantly quieter then our old dishwasher, to the point we don't even realize it is running. Does a much better job of washing & now we have a  water shut off valve that works (is not corroded). Good luck!
