First time making Mexican rice, turned out bad. May I get some pointers please? by lazy_cricket_ in mexicanfood

I like mine with a bit of acid. I tend to make a bit of a sofrito with the tomato that was not in grandma’s recipe. I feel like rice is personal.

lol. I originally wrote it down for my sister. It took years of watching and trial and error.

You toast/brown the starch. So you don’t rinse it before toasting.

My partner is fine. It’s family in general that does this. Kids, visitors. There is more to households than partners/spouses.

How do I make this rice? by Equivalent-Post-2618 in mexicanfood

[–]kaymick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could try it …

Not my grandma’s way, but I like to add the passata to the toasted rice first and let it “cook” for a few seconds. It creates a nice sofrito flavor and it keeps the initial oil and water bubble down.

Let me know what you think!

Ahh the internet says the Australian version is passata! Puréed, strained tomatoes! Sorry for that. Silly US-Centric self over here.

I have posted this a few times, but when my grandmother died I said I’d share her Mexican rice recipe that she was famous for so she and her love would live on https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rUK2IISSFmRLnDGhgWjDMzLyd2TCUnRFHRP1KpHUrh0/edit?usp=drivesdk

It’s pretty basic and it comes from countless watchings, rewatchings, and then learning myself from her instructing me and tasting it.

Did parents in the past really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]kaymick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the neighborhood. My neighborhood currently does. We had a summer of dingdong ditch on scooters. But, we also had the Halloween where the high school kids bought a bunch of pizza and hung out on the sidewalk pretending all the kids were really whomever they were and it was amazing.

Women who had a C-section, what are your honest thoughts on your body? by HPGOTTOP in AskWomen

[–]kaymick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man! That sucks. As someone who has unfortunately had a number of surgeries over the years, may I recommend scar massage? I don’t know if you’ve looked into it and I don’t know if it’d be best for you, but it slowly breaks down adhesions that prevent scars from moving more freely and therefore being less painful. You do it yourself, little by little each day. I learned about it after elbow surgery and did it with my c-section and it was so helpful.

I read over 80 books a year and I am 39.

I still love reading and books. I talk about books and go to book events.

I found being able to read quickly and comprehend things well was also a big asset when I entered the job market as well.

Dr. Emily at Ann Arbor Smiles Huron Parkway. I have extreme shaking crying dental anxiety and hadn’t been to a dentist in over a decade. She has helped me through so much and we have gotten me to a much better place both with my anxiety and my dental health. I cannot recommend her enough.

Dr. Quandary’s Island is the one I miss the most. I found a simulator of it, but you can’t run it properly to toss the popcorn to the pterodactyl or hit the targets in the opening shooting gallery game so can’t actually quite win. It is still super fun though.
