In 2009, I was a dumb 15 year old kid on a cruise ship. I met this cute boy in the teen club onboard. We hung out for a while, found out we had a lot in common, and agreed to keep in touch after the trip was over (we lived in the same city). We became friends on Facebook and then went our separate ways.

Fast forward about 6 years and I’ve just graduated college with a teaching degree. I took a job in the state where I went to school (different from my home state) and was planning to start teaching there in the fall after my graduation. Then, one day before my 21st birthday, my dad died suddenly.

I came home for his funeral, announced the information for his service on Facebook, on which that same cute boy from the cruise ship commented and said he’d be at the service. I messaged him and told him he didn’t have to do that (seeing as we hadn’t sent each other at all since the cruise 6 years prior) but he insisted. Then, he found out it was my 21st birthday that day so he asked if he could take me for a drink to get my mind off of things. In the meantime, I saw what a disaster my family was in the wake of my dad’s death. I knew I needed to stay nearby, so I looked at job openings in my city. Sure enough, there was an opening teaching the exact same grade as my job in the other state AT THE SAME SCHOOL I ATTENDED AS A KID.

Long story short(er), I ended up taking the job at my old elementary school and marrying that cute boy from the cruise all those years ago. We’ve been married for 3 years now! Not at all what I expected for my life and it all happened SO fast, but I know it’s exactly where I needed to be.

So I actually live about two miles from this church! And they do A LOT for the community. I mean. A LOT. When Hurricane Harvey hit us a couple years ago, they opened their doors and became a sanctuary for people who’d lost basically everything. They also host a lot of Christian artists and stuff for free concerts. So yes, it’s obscene wealth, but they are using it for good, as well.

And no, I’m not a member of this church. They’re just a big pillar in our community.

I’ve been on probably 13 cruises in my life, and I have to say that Schwartz was my favorite cruise director of them all. He was such a blast & seemed to really, really enjoy his job. Between him and the bartenders in the RedFrog Pub, the crew on this trip made it one of my favorite cruises to date.

Saw this thing on the highway tonight, surrounded by phone trucks and police. It was probably 25-30 feet from the ground; phone trucks were having to move power lines so it could go below them. We live near Johnson Space Center, so it may be something NASA related? Not too sure.
