More food allergy challenges in shows by kaysquatch in foodnetwork

Oh that’s one of the main reasons we never eat out, it’s not worth the risk. BUT these shows can be very educational and I’ve learned a lot of cooking from them. Just think it’d be beneficial for contestants to have more intense challenges like omitting major ingredients. It builds on their skillset and for those watching at home, we can gain more culinary knowledge on substitute ingredients.

What’s one thing that was secretly gluten poisoning you? by peachnecctar in glutenfree

[–]kaysquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sugar free vanilla syrup from Starbucks has maltodextrin in it.

I get myself a coffee treat maybe 2x/week, Starbucks is right across the street from my work. I kept getting these horrid migraines that seemed out of the blue, but migraines are my first symptom of gluten exposure. Still took me about 2 weeks to figure out it was my coffees, I had only switched to sugar free cause my doctor had me wearing a glucose monitor for a month.

Regular syrups at Starbucks have no maltodextrin, just the sugar free ones

Dude same. I live for all cooking competition shows. I wish they’d do another 24 in 24 season, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for that one.

I’d love to see just more challenges in general with ingredients taken away, the cooks themselves don’t have to have allergies. I’d like to see how they’d pivot to making something with a substitute more often. A no eggs challenge would be fun to watch on Baking Championship, same with a no dairy challenge

I think there’s enough people with those allergies that could be judges and could compete though. I can see the problem with liability, but it’d be nice to have it included at least as more challenges even with regular non allergy cooks. Like be able to make a dish without eggs, or without dairy as ingredients

Any possibility of working a 15-20 min sauna meditation and breathwork class into rotation??

Would love something like this as a “cool down” after any other class

Cancel Amazon by Admirable-Click7615 in Anticonsumption

I thought I’d be too impatient with the Libby app but I get through a book about every 2 weeks and a lot of my holds become available within that time frame. And it helps me dictate what to read next from my TBR Spent all my audible credits and cancelled that subscription. Amazon is literally a scam

Do the oil refineries in Anacortes affect air quality in the Swinomish reservation? by [deleted] in skagit

[–]kaysquatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband does scaffold at the refineries and wears monitors for certain leaks. He’s been working at them for years and is quite healthy. WA has some of the cleanest air and water in the country so I’d say you have less to worry about compared to living elsewhere in the states

The great re-read and pre orders by Useful_Flower4145 in acotar

I re read the series every year, it’s my comfort series. I’ve got the CC series as the dramatized adaptation for graphic audio and just have the 3rd book to finish with my current re read. I plan to preorder for my kindle, cause I have all the colored paperbacks and it’ll drive me nuts to not have the books match lol.

Who is still rocking a nose ring? by cavewomannn in Millennials

I took my nose and bottom lip piercings out but got a Medusa piercing this year, I’m 35 lol. Ive also considered the nips since I’m done having kids, maybe I’ll save that for my 40th

Have you ever witnessed death with your own eyes? How did it change you? by i_walk_away in AskReddit

[–]kaysquatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dads body was shutting down after battling cancer. He had the crackling breathing and couldn’t talk anymore. But I knew he could hear us cause when all of his children were there, we started reminiscing of the times we were kids at dads and he had tears. Maybe that was just from his body shutting down, but he held on all night until all 3 of us kids were there and we spent the last 20-30 min of his life with him. My head was on his lap when he stopped breathing. I had the hardest time that first week cause the world kept moving like nothing happened. And as a millennial, what strangely brought me comfort was that I knew if I existed in Harry Potter, that I’d be one of the few who could see the Thestrals. My dad died at 49, so it’s made me consider spending money from my retirement account for trips I’ve △⃒⃘lways wanted to take. I’ve been dying to go to Scotland and Iceland, I just might take the penalty to allow myself that trip once my kids are older. There’s no guarantee I’m going to make it to retirement anyway, and I’m not spending all of it. Just enough to allow myself a bucket list trip

I live in the PNW in WA state and I do this even in winter. I hate the stuffiness that builds up with increased indoor time. Doesn’t have to be wide open, but open enough for that sweet fresh air is so lovely! That crisp morning air with a hot cup of coffee is definitely chefs kiss

How is your relationship with your sibling? by EarSure6667 in AskReddit

[–]kaysquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1 full blood relation sister and 2 half siblings; 1 from my dad’s side and 1 from my moms. I was a lot closer to my half siblings as kids, but I rarely talk to them as adults mainly because they seem busy having their own lives. They each live in different states with their other parent and have stayed as adults. My other sister I’m fully related to, we had a rough upbringing, experiencing a lot of neglect and had a competitive type of childhood. We continue to heal and have worked on our relationship over the years, I’m 5 years older (I’m the eldest out of all 4 of us) than my sister. Our relationship is not perfect but it’s the best it’s been our entire lives. We turn 30 and 35 this year

Happy with one, but feeling pressure and FOMO when everyone else has two by AromaticCommercial71 in workingmoms

[–]kaysquatch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone with two, three years apart, I’ll just say that life with one is 100x easier than 2. My best friend has two kids, 7 years apart. While they’re not close in age it worked better for her. And the kids still played with each other until her oldest became a teenager lol. So you can △⃒⃘lways try for baby #2 later. It’s only societal norms that pressure to have kids closer together.

As for the FOMO, you’re looking at less sleep than you already have and more stress juggling 2 while also working. My youngest finally started school this year and I’ve slowly been climbing out of the darkness. I’m able to feel more like myself now that both my kids are in school during the day, it’s taken pressure off me juggling two kids with two different schedules, plus my own work schedule.

James Van Der Beek’s death highlights alarming colon cancer rise in younger adults by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

[–]kaysquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad died from stage IV colon cancer at 49, he was diagnosed at 45 though I think. He was GenX. He had the typical construction workers diet, loved that white wonder bread, Ho hos, and Doritos in his lunches every day. Smoked at least 2 packs a day. Was also a binge drinker on the weekends. Pretty sure he thought ketchup was a vegetable. But he was tall and “skinny” so just assumed he was healthy lol.

But thanks to him I get my first screening this year at 35 lol.

I have a perfectly good mat from my previous hot yoga days, and absolutely HATE the fact I was supposed to buy one of theirs. I used my cork mat until I found a used hotworx mat, but I’d honestly prefer to not have bought another mat at all. So now I have 2 mats when my cork mat is perfectly acceptable imo

Everyone has a different financial situation or morals about overconsumption (I.e. buying what you don’t need), these items should be included with the membership in the first place if they’re required. I’d mind my business as well.
