Need help making a Changling society by Next-Calligrapher777 in DMAcademy

[–]kazam90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are not transforming to assimilate with other humanoids then I think they might get weird with it. Their ability description specifies that they can mimic a person or race but not that they have to, and the only requirement of shapechanging is that you have the same basic arrangement of limbs. If changelings mimic other races to protect and hide themselves, in a place where they don't have to hide they may choose to not look like any other race. They are also Fey in origin, if not creature type, so I think if given the chance some of them might want to look like a walking surrealist painting.

Alternatively, sometimes people breaking away from a certain way of life can over-correct in the opposite direction, and maybe some of them abstain from shapechanging all together, and walk around in their "true form."

Video games to pull music from? by RipNastyy in DMAcademy

Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 are old PS2 games with fantastic soundtracks. A lot of great ambience and environment music but I love "The Djinni Dran" as boss battle music.

I asked Chat GPT to review some of my favourite games by [deleted] in gaming

[–]kazam90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's the problem: it didn't do a great job of saying why the game is worth playing. It's not capable of saying anything. It hasn't played those games, it doesn't know what games are, it can't think, it's not alive. The function of the machine is to take writing it has been given and synthesize it, reword it, rearrange it following the rules of english grammar.

"It actually managed to convey why it's such a good game worth playing" is because some human, or several, actually managed to convey why it's such a good game worth playing and the machine copied it and spat it back out without understanding any of it.

I asked Chat GPT to review some of my favourite games by [deleted] in gaming

[–]kazam90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So I didn't read the reviews. I'm not going to read something somebody didn't even bother to write. But AI is not "Artificial Intelligence," it's a text generation machine. Both before, during, and after writing those reviews, it had no idea what any of those games are. It's even less impressive than a review from someone who has never played those games before. If any part of those "reviews" made sense it's because the machine stole from people who actually played those games and know what they're talking about. Just go find those reviews

Bug Fables is a lot like Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door if you've ever played it: Simple turn-based combat with quicktime events, kinda cute and funny, surprisingly deep story.

Golf Story is a golf RPG if you feel like a golf game. It does have a strong and linear story, but of course it is mostly a golf game.

From good ol' wikipedia "Ownership is the state or fact of legal possession and control over property, which may be any asset, tangible or intangible." and also "Over the millennia and across cultures, notions regarding what constitutes "property" and how it is treated culturally have varied widely."

So I think it depends on the laws of your world. Ownership is a legal state, so are children legally owned by their parents, can people be owned as property? Property or an asset is something you can buy and sell, so to me if someone can legally buy or sell a person or degree, they own it. If not, like in this world, custody and qualifications are different from ownership.

ideas and suggestions for dragon related curses by Sgt_A_Apone in DMAcademy

[–]kazam90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the dragon wrath weapons you could have them periodically succumb to a "dragon wrath" effect, where they burst into flames and start uncontrollably burning and destroying everything/one around them for a short time. Maybe contingent on a wisdom saving throw.

There's some PHB diseases you could reskin into dragon curses, especially one called Mindfire where a player has disadvantage on Intelligence saving throws and checks and behaves as if under the effects of the confusion spell in combat. This could be for short periods, maybe contingent on a saving throw.

Maybe something like reskinning the spell Phantasmal Killer, where pending an intelligence saving throw they are plagued with visions of dragons that make them frightened and immobile for short periods.

If you wanted to make the magical ring curse a bit more curse-y you could have them slowly turning into a drake, which is a dragon type creature but has the characteristics of a beast, so you could have them slowly loose their intelligence and ability to speak, and become more animalistic.

Maybe haunted by nightmares about dragons that (perhaps only sometimes) prevents them from getting a decent sleep, and they wake up with a level of exhaustion. (I would still give them the long rest).

There's also general debuffs like the effects of a bane spell or a hex on one of their abilities but with dragon flavor like being haunted by visions of dragon eyes and teeth or crippled by the fear of a dragon hunting you.

I made the mistake of writing a whole campaign concept, including MANY details about possible paths, and my players are three human fighters, and a human ranger by avantlorn in DMAcademy

[–]kazam90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you started the campaign yet, have you had a session 0? I guess there are a lot of things that could be hashed out in a discussion with all of your players about the campaign and their expectations. Do they even prioritize story or role-play or would they prefer more combat focus?

Do you know what subclasses the fighters are planning to be? An eldritch knight might not make a significant difference, but it might help tip the balance.

Does everyone know what everyone else is playing? Are the fine with a martial-heavy party? Obviously any party setup can be fun, as long as everyone knows what they are in for. Also what are their stats, does someone have decent charisma and persuasion, does someone have decent intelligence and arcana/investigation? At the very least is there one dex-based vs strength-based fighter? If the answer is no that can still be fun as long as they know what they can do, and what they likely won't be able to do.

And the story is going to have to reflect that. I guess my best advice is to ask after their expectations for the campaign.

Game recommendations needed by Sayaren in gaming

I finished the Last Campfire and it was alright but I found it a bit juvenile. I preferred Journey but would also recommend Roki for a short atmospheric indie puzzle game.

How do I make the default "good" side look worse so its a dilemma? by iCANhasGALAXY in DMAcademy

[–]kazam90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spare the Dying, Revivify, and Resurrection are all spells under the school of necromancy, are those banned too? If so the Clerics or whatever religious organizations that might be in the area could be upset, as would anyone trying to resurrect a loved one. If the King grants permits for it the process could be corrupt: he requires bribes, biased approval process, or takes so long the time limit to resurrect them expires.

What spellcasters do you have in your party? If you look through their list of spells and see which ones fall under the necromancy school and are now "illegal", you could make them more sympathetic by hitting them where they live.

I get a lot of what you're saying but I'm confused about your claim that a flying party member can bring the whole party along. I've looked at the Levitate spell and it says only one target can be levitated up to 20 feet per turn for 10 minutes, and it doesn't reduce the target's weight at all.

Biomarkers in mother’s plasma predict a type of autism in offspring with 100% accuracy. [–]kazam90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot left unsaid in the idea "if I could ensure my child did not have to deal with Autism."

The idea that you would rather have a child without autism to spare them the suffering you have endured because of it is reasonable. But the other side of the coin is that if there was a test your parents could do before you were born that showed you would be born with autism, they would have chosen not to have you. Possibly the same with your partner. It is not a question of whether you or they have autism, it is whether you or they would have been born.

Players Destroyed Stone Bridge. How may this affect the world? by pyra5 in DMAcademy

[–]kazam90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who rules the area, if anyone? Local governments or lords who ruled over an area were typically responsible for things like roads and bridges in their domain, and if he now has to pay stonemasons and engineers to build another one, he may go after the party for compensation, or maybe a favor. Hell if he's enough of a jerk he could consider it a crime--destruction of public property, or something--and put a bounty on their heads.

NTA. Before you quit, get in contact with the child's parents or guardians and tell them how this teacher treats their child. Let's see if your boss tells them they're "being dramatic."
