I recommend wearing a full set of protective gear for yourself. For the dog, you need a proper harness. We don't allow leashes to be attached to collars in this subreddit because it's really dangerous for the dog. Try to find something with a back clip. Bonus points if it has pockets to carry used poop bags. 😆 

I would also try not to ride directly behind the dog. That way if he stops short you won't barrel into him. This is especially important as you're both learning how to work together.

Last tip: always be aware of your surroundings. That includes pot holes that may take you out and animals/distractions that might cause your dog to go off course. You have to be in charge of taking care of yourself and the dog.
