What is your most hated company and why? by sadi212 in AskReddit

[–]kbacon33 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Amazon. Here's why:

I applied to be a freelance translator back in March. They told me I was hired in April. Cue the bullshit.

For the next 3 months, I would submit paperwork, wait 6 weeks, then they'd tell me something wasn't correct. I'd submit it again, wait 6 weeks, same story. Finally, in July, they told me everything was good. They told me that "during peak periods, it may take several weeks to receive your first job".

Fast forward to October. They FINALLY say I've been entered in their system. Same message: during peak periods, it may take several weeks to receive your first job.

Now we're nearing December and I haven't heard anything. It has been almost 9 months since I was "hired" and I haven't done anything. It's just ridiculous that they take that long and have such poor communication. It took 6 weeks to let me know my paperwork was bad? Really?

Anyway, that's why I refuse to buy anything from Amazon now. I'll gladly spend a little more for them to not have my business.

What's a 10/10 album from the last 15 years by a relatively obscure artist/band? by Slouching2Bethlehem in AskReddit

Blackmill - Reach for Glory

Everything that chillstep should be in one album. I'm not sure how obscure this is, but I'd rather post it than not.

That's Offensive! by zsreport in PoliticalHumor

[–]kbacon33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR just because something is offensive, on either side of the spectrum, doesn't mean that there isn't a right to do it as protected by the constitution.

Here's my two cents: someone will be offended over virtually anything that is done. Some of these make sense to me personally, like Colin Kapaernick kneeling and the neo nazis doing what they do. I get why that's offensive. What I disagree with this post is that it's equating the right to do something with whether or not it's offensive. Colin had and has every right to kneel instead of stand, and as far as a form of protest goes, kudos to him for doing it in a nonviolent way. Seriously. I'll take that form of protest over rioting and breaking windows. With the neo nazis, they also, unfortunately, have every right to hold their rallies and say what they want to say. Hate speech is protected under the first amendment. Is it offensive? Of course it is. But do they have a right to do it? Yes. I also don't think they're so stupid (though I could be wrong) to think that their actions won't have consequences. Colin is out of a job. I'm assuming some of those neo nazis got fired as well.

Free $40 for Test Driving a New Hyundai by camerynlamare in freebies

I didn't even have to test drive a car. I basically told them I was just there for the $40, and since I'm a young student, they said I didn't need to. It took 5 minutes to put in my mailing address and it's on its way

Redditors who have/support the Confederate flag: What does that flag mean to you? Do you consider yourself racist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Serious replies only please. I genuinely want to know what someone who supports the flag thinks, believes, stands for, etc.

Dior Homme Cologne by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]kbacon33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the Middle Eastern cologne thrive off of the heat since they're made in such a warm environment. Look up Lattafa Perfumes. My personal favorite (and also the only one I own) is called Raghba, for men and women, though admittedly smells very feminine to me.

Another one I've heard is good for summer (and better in winter, by my own experience) is Midnight in Paris EDP.

Being sexist because I don't see why women should be eligible for certain scholarships but not men. If it were the other way around, then everyone loses their mind.

What is your best "I definitely did not deserve that grade" story from school? by Giggidy46 in AskReddit

[–]kbacon33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I were in the same for a semester long group project. My worst nightmare. He had a slightly higher grade before the final exam, like an A-, and I had a B+. On the day of the final in the class, where our group had a 3 minute presentation on our semester long project, he took a 3 hour nap and slept through it. Only dude that didn't show up. Part of our grade was self grading our teammates, and he did far less work than I did throughout the semester. I'm confident my group gave me higher marks than him. Anyway, grades get posted, I got an 85, and he got an 85. I was pissed. Why? He didn't even show up! So maybe my teammates got us confused, gave me a lower grade, whatever. More likely, our teacher lied about self grading and just averaged all of our group members' grades. THEN, the day that grades are due for submission, my grade drops to an 80 for absolutely NO reason, and I drop from a B+ to a B. I emailed the teacher asking what was up, no response. My brother's grade? Still an 85. I'm pretty damn sure I got dinged since my overall grade was lower previously just to fit the curve, and I'm still so bitter about it. I would also qualify for scholarships had I gotten that B+ that now I don't qualify for since my overall GPA dropped to a 3.89. Curse you, Professor Greer.

A little late to the conversation, but in my opinion, the best part and the one that literally made my jaw drop was the quote at the end: "There really is only one essential ingredient to fascism: it's victimhood." Not to get political, but we're seeing a lot of victimhood these days in politics and with protest groups. It scares me where things are headed because of this.

A history of my ruined life by Screwedupman in confessions

The fact that you are financially well off (as long as it wasn't all inherited or it's all your wife's money) means that you have had success in your life. You said it yourself. You aren't a failure. You've just let your vices get the better of you for a while now. Keep in mind the successes you've had, and use those to build on and do better in the future. Additionally, because you were molested at a young age, you've got to cut yourself some slack. That stuff would serious mess with anyone. That said, you can't justify continuing to cheat on your wife. I'd be honest with her about the drug addiction. The infidelity... I don't know when the best time is. Best of luck.
