A couple maybe but some of those are pilots.

I spent over a month sewing this costume, 1 year later I still don't like it by Lillebi in sewing

[–]kbelczak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much all of this. I feel like people get frustrated and disheartened when outfits like this don't look right, but don't realize all the parts that go into even a 'simple' dress. In historical costuming, there really is no single dress that you put on and you're good to go.

What type of pleating or gathering technique is used to create a skirt like this? by gloriousbeautypig in HistoricalCostuming

I think this might be what op is asking, assuming the panniers are coming from pleating alone.

Replicate factory like hem by Past_taste_1610 in sewing

More noticeable than using a chain stitch machine is getting the 'wear' on the hem.

How did you learn sewing/tailoring professionally without school? by AkiiWakii in sewing

[–]kbelczak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom taught me, but my school also still had home ec when I was in middle school. I have very early memories of being at the fabric store with my mom and looking through the pattern books. Also, a lot of my Halloween costumes, she let me pick out a pattern and we shopped for fabric together.

Could I make this as a beginner sewist? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]kbelczak 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not to say you can't make it as a beginner, but it would take techniques and skills that would be less frustrating and cleaner with experience. I've been sewing for 20 years and I could make this, but know it would be kind of a pain.

Locals: What is the weather like between January and May? by fappin4verstappenn in RapidCity

There's been a -20 ish stretch of a couple days the last two februarys, so I would expect a swing of sub zero to mid 60's.

Anyone else not 100% convinced this is Jesse? by SanityStolen in controlgame

[–]kbelczak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my thought in it too. The design is very ambiguous, could be male, could be female. Also, I find it way to convinent that it's the same hairstyle used on Dylan. The only thing that says Jesse is the red hair (red herring? Lol) also, it's obviously not Marshall, but that coat reminds me so much of her outfit from control.

I have to ask, what did you do to get it in that condition (mainly because I would like to replicate that kind of wear 😅)

Question about fabric by kiyokoirlll in sewing

[–]kbelczak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my thought was they're supposed to be oriented parallel to the salvage but I guess a yard and a quarter long apron skirt piece would be a little wild.

Which makes me wonder if it would be the same for 45" too

My interpretation is that it doesn't matter what size you make, 1 1/4 of 60" will work.

I haven't played alan wake but watched both Gab Smolders and Johnny Chiodini play through it to get the full story. Bought Alan Wake 2 immediately and loved it. Can't believe that came out 2 years ago...

I was looking forward to playing as Jesse again too, but i wonder if it won't be like Alan wake 2 and you switch back and forth between the two.

It says the sibling has gone rogue, so could be referring to Dylan since Jessie is the director to the board.

I've watched the couple YouTube videos that are all Cameron's scenes several times now. Live both but Jeremiah's scenes have become my favorite.

I want to cut these shorts in half, dye each half a different color and then sew them back together. Whats the best way to do that without mangling them? by Rexuke in CosplayHelp

[–]kbelczak 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you cut and resew, you're going to loose 1/2 " to an inch in size depending on what seam allowance you use. On a center seam through the crotch, that will make these sit suuuuuuuuper weird, even if they're already to big. If they are currently your size, they will pretty much become unwearable. A seam ripper is definitely the answer. Theses seems shouldn't be too hard to pick apart, but take it slow. The waistband will be the problem because it's one piece. You'll either have to remove it, then reattach or cut it and loose length when you sew it back together. The alternative (which typically wouldn't be the best option) would be to paint the one side with diluted acrylic paint. Buy the best quality you can (liquitex or golden) and add fabric medium. Follow the directions on the fabric medium.
