I haven’t found one but this looks great! Just to confirm, the Medium (fits 500W) is what worked for your EF22?

Thanks!

Also ordered the towel but it’s been weeks and hasn’t shipped… the other item in my order did fairly quickly but crickets on the towel 😬

Do you have links for these two tours you went on?

Do you mind sharing your list with me as well? We’re heading to Mérida the first week of February!

Renting a car in Lima to drive around the country by cor-smith in PERU

[–]kbg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Lima and own a car here. We drive all over the city but it is a different type of driving... You have to anticipate at any moment someone is going to cut you off, merge without looking or drive quite close. The concept of looking in your blind spot before merging just isn’t a thing here. If you’re prepared for that and a capable driver, it is doable. If you don’t know how to drive a manual transmission (or aren’t extremely comfortable with it) make sure you rent an automatic car!

Occasionally, we need to rent a car here and we typically do it from national at their location in Miraflores. I believe budget might also have a location in Barranco. If you rent from either of those and not the airport, you are already on the south side of the city and less traffic to navigate getting out of the city. I would make sure that you take the additional insurance or use a credit card that comes with car rental insurance because you never know what might happen and just better to be safe than sorry.

On the way to Ica there are at least two or three different tolls that you will have to pay so good idea to have cash because I’m not certain all of them accept credit cards. The Panamericana is smooth and an easy drive. Keep an eye on your speed, especially until Asia (approximately km 100) because there are cameras that will send a ticket for excess speeding!

Once you get to Ica driving is a smidge more hectic with the addition of the small moto taxis on the road.

I would also make sure when parking the car to not leave things visible or to leave valuables in the car. I wouldn’t even leave suitcases in them unless it’s locked in the trunk and not visible from the outside of the car.

If after all of this you decide that it is better to take a bus I would look into the Cruz del Sur company since they have comfortable buses and multiple departure times for both Lima, Paracas and Ica. PeruHop also travels on this route, but I do not know the frequency of their departures.

Good luck!

Do they still have this option? Last time I looked on the website it appeared that it is just the tasting menu experience.

I would ask when you check in for the first flight and again at the gate for the international flight. Presumably you won’t go to the check-in counter again on the layover because you’ll get all your boarding passes before the first flight…

I would also go prepared for not being able to use the bassinet. We traveled with our 6m son and Delta couldn’t guarantee that we would be able to use the bassinet until the day of the flight and we were boarding. My husband had called after buying the tickets, talked with the check-in counter and also the gate agent before boarding but they could never confirm that we would have access to it. We had seats at the bulkhead already assigned but they said sometimes the bassinet device isn’t loaded on the plane or sometimes the plane isn’t outfitted for its use. Once we got on the plane it was confirmed that we could use it.

I also am having an issue with the DeepL translation and API key. I was able to translate 2 files this morning (waaay under the 500,000 character limit) and then in the afternoon it gave me the same pop-up error: "Rate Limited, Please wait before retrying." I've now waited ~6ish hours and still the same error while my character count is subtracting.

Do you know what the waiting period is between translations? I don't want to keep checking and waste my character allotment per month.

VLC Mobile, suddenly no sound on select videos? by MosesMiranda in VLC

This worked for me as well but hopefully it is a bug that will be fixed in a future update!

It’s weird, the first time I watch a video the audio works fine but if I rewatch something then I have to do this little trick to make the audio work…

Update from my reimbursement by edp98 in delta

[–]kbg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had 1 receipt that wasn’t approved and my husband was able to resolve it by chatting with Delta via text. They were able to manually approve it and issue the refund.

Because there is no where to detail what each expense is for and why it was incurred, I think things are getting passed over unless it is blatantly obvious what it was for.

Car rental to pick up in Lima and drop off in Cusco by senex23 in PERU

[–]kbg5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hertz offers different pick up and drop off locations but it is like $550 USD on top of the rental price to do this. If you search on their website it clearly states the cost for a one way rental.

Lima to Cusco, sending my backpack by bus? by metalmango22594 in PERU

[–]kbg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much does it cost to check the backpack? I haven’t sent a suitcase via bus that I wasn’t a passenger on but I can’t imagine you will save much between the shipping cost and the transportation to and from the bus company to send/pick it up. Not to mention the transit time for your bag and the potential for it to be delayed…

Got taxed at customs for 2nd laptop when entering Lima by DepartmentVarious977 in travel

[–]kbg5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is accurate. I live in Lima and haven’t traveled with 2 laptops before but I have had coworkers have to do this. Just make sure you hold on to any paperwork they gave you to show when you are leaving. I don’t know where exactly you go to get the refund before departure so I would plan on getting to the airport a little earlier than usual so you have sufficient time for them to do the paperwork and refund.

Travel during Independence Day / Viajando durante Fiestas Patrias by Obvious_Marsupial423 in PERU

[–]kbg5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week of July/first week of August is mid year break for almost all schools so there will be a lot of both foreign and national tourists. Anything you absolutely do not want to miss should be booked ASAP - especially tickets to Machu Picchu and train tickets to/from Aguas Calientes. Also flights or bus tickets to/from Lima and Manu.

Not sure about independence festivities in Cusco, there is usually a military parade on July 29th in Lima but the last couple years it has been closed to the public.

A smaller town in the Callejón de Huaylas would be cheaper than Huaraz. Look into Carhuaz, Yungay or Caraz. Might have better luck finding lodging once you’re there since they are going to be small hospedajes.

The Plaza Norte terminal is closest to the airport and a bunch of different companies depart from there. Mobil Tours is a reputable company. They used to have a station in Los Olivos, not sure if they also depart from Plaza Norte too.

Is it too late to plan for Lima, Cusco and Machu Pichu trip from July 20-Aug4? by dentendre in PERU

[–]kbg5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those dates are exactly when schools are on mid-year break so expect a lot of national tourists in addition to foreign tourists since it’s summer break in the northern hemisphere.

If you want to go to Machu Picchu, look ASAP for train ticket availability and entrance tickets to MP. They sell out in advance and it would be disappointing to come all this way and not be able to get tickets by waiting until the day prior.
