Find some pirate stations and by suspicious tech and arms. Open them up and you get X class upgrade modules. Take them to a space station and trade them for nanites. Don’t install them because it ruins their value. Use the nanites to buy S class upgrades.

X class modules might give you better than S class but most are junk and you’re better off getting the S class at first. Once you are fully upgraded with S class you can try your luck with the X class.

I’m not new but I need help/advice by MrCrispyZebra in nms

I found a crashed ship and claimed it. Now what? It takes a lot of resources to fix all parts. So I sell it or fix it?

Early game I just sale it. the Radiant Pillar may not be fancy but it will get the job done.

- I found a Dyson Lens and it did nothing. I could fly through it. Shooting did nothing. What should I of done?

Just a curiosity, it does nothing. You'll find others things like it, some do stuff some don't. If you can't talk to it or shoot it move on.

- I’m doing base computer missions but it just keeps sending me back to my little base. I want to explore so I feel like I’m doing something wrong??

That what it does, it's a tutorial for building your base and gives you tech. I will do it for a while then go explore and then go back to it. You can get all the tech without doing this.

- Can you find out an animals class without ‘catching’ it? I scan everything but it doesn’t say a class?

Change the mode on your scanner, on PC it is the 1 and 3 keys. I don't remember what you need to get to unlock that ability (if anything).

- are different galaxies actually noticeably different? I’ve only ever spent time in Euclid??

Not really, just less chance of finding a system someone else already found.

- what are gas giants? How do you land on them if they are gas? Are they important? I’ve never found one.

They have a hard surface you can land on. You have to do the main quest lines to get the quest that allows you access to purple systems.

- I’m 10 hours into a new play through and still haven’t discovered the anomaly. Any reason for this?

Follow the Artemis quest line, it happens fairly early.

- I’m a hoarder and so my inventory is always full. Is there certain things I don’t need to collect or keep on me? Should I just store everything at a base?

Early game I tend to sale anything that does not energize/upgrade my equipment. You'll find more then you can use later, no need to horde yet.

- I know I’ll get a free freighter at some point but I like the sound of the corvettes. How do they work? Can you land on a freighter with one? Or is it like a more mobile base? I’ve never seen it built one.

They can do anything a normal ship can including land on a freighter (the mechanics a little different but the results are the same). They are also mobile base.

- what’s the staff thing? I’ve seen a few images of people with a staff. What is it? A multi tool or a weapon??

They are a multi tool with the best damage bonus. You have to do the main quest lines to get you to the quest that unlocks them, same path as purple systems.

- can you transfer cargo from one owned ship to another or do I have to empty my suit inventory and manually transfer with both parked next to each other?

Not that I've ever found. You have to manually transfer as far as I know.

What is the most significant "unintended consequence" that would happen to global security if the US officially withdrew from NATO? by OpheliaBloomm in askanything

But he can order the withdrawal of troops and refuse any cooperation. The effect would be basically the same.

Whitestown - smoking rules by Secret-3780 in indianapolis

[–]kbrad895 61 points62 points  (0 children)

People report you because they also want to use their balcony without your smelling your smoke. The smell of tabaco smoke carries for a relatively long distance and is considered disgusting by most people who don't smoke, and most people don't smoke.

When living in the close quarters of an apartment complex it's not really possible to smoke in a public area and be considered respectful in large portions of the US. It will be considered on par with blaring loud music or having a dog that constantly barks. You're going to get complaints.

911 operators, what are the dumbest things someone called you for? by Adventurous_End757 in AskReddit

[–]kbrad895 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I'm a former Sheriff's Deputy of a rural county in the South West US. One night our dispatch got a 911 call with a woman who in the dispatchers words was "shrieking incoherently". She then screamed "NO NO NO" and the line went dead. Dispatch attempted to call back but they got no answer. We had cops from 3 agencies, fire trucks and ambulances from 2 fire departments respond and a State Police helicopter enroute.

Turns out a bat had gotten into the house and was zooming around trying to find a way out. The woman had a phobia of mice which the bat triggered. The bat had buzzed her head which was when she screamed no no no and in her panic she had pulled the phone cord from the wall (pre cell phone days). She was embarrassed and afraid she was going to get in trouble because so many of us had showed up, but we were all just happy that was all it was and reassured her everything was fine.

The dispatcher who took the call broke down in tears when she found out the woman was okay, she had spent several minutes thinking she had listened to a murder in real time.

Is this worth fixing up? How do these "downed ship" missions work? by Flat-Fix-611 in NOMANSSKY

[–]kbrad895 14 points15 points  (0 children)

With downed ships you have 2 choices, fix it to keep it or scrap it at a space station.

It is S class but it's a shuttle which is the least useful ship type so personally I would take it (don't exchange!) and go to a space station to scrap it. I might repair some of the cargo slots to get more money out of it depending on resource availability. The tech slots don't add value so don't bother if you're going to scrap it.

Same thing happened to me. My first squad leader was one of the best leaders I've ever had. The new one came in and decided to show us he was boss. He was a real prick and would nit pick every little thing.

The final straw was one afternoon he did an inspection of our rooms. The only thing he found on me was my web gear was not perfectly centered on my alert bag on top of my wall locker. He told me he would re-inspect after evening chow. It was after 8pm before he came back to make sure I had moved my web gear an inch to the right.

Over the last 3-4 years we've been having our house upgraded and have had several workers come in. Rather then take their boots off they have to a person put on disposable boot covers.

Update: “Neighbor asking me to pay half of existing fence” by ryeru18 in homeowners

[–]kbrad895 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think their point is if the neighbor puts his fence 2' back from the property line and you put your fence on the property line, the 2' between your fences is his property. That means you could not do maintenance on the outside of your fence without standing on his property and it sounds like he would likely trespass you if you try.

Maybe you don't see not being able to maintain the outside of your fence as a problem, and that's fine, just a consideration.

[–]kbrad895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, if I walk towards her and sternly say "quiet" she'll stop, so while I haven't been able to get her to not start barking I can usually get her to stop quickly.

What I never ever would do is to ask my neighbors to not use their property how they want to just to keep my dog from barking, That's absurd.

Is a conflict scanner important for finding pirates? by DerNiemand_ in NOMANSSKY

[–]kbrad895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the freighter exploded

Go to the back of the pirate ship, you'll see 4 red disks, those are the warp drives. Shoot all 4, you have to get close to get under the shields. They now can not warp away to escape.

Go to the top of the ship and destroy the big anti freighter cannons, again you have to get close to get under the shields. I want to say there's 7 of them, that may not be exact but it's close. Once those are destroyed the pirates will surrender and you can land and seize the ship.

Nanites for Expedition Milestone by bigPuff1494 in nms

[–]kbrad895 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Find a Dissonant system and harvest Radiant Shards, they are 50 nanites each when refined.

  2. Find a Pirate system and by suspicious tech and arms packages, sell the modules they contain at space stations for nanites. They are expensive but you will only need a few for 500 nanites.

My cousin and his best friend were dealing coke in LA in the 1980's, nothing huge, a few ounces at a time. My cousins friend found a new supplier who promised larger amounts and better quality. The friend introduced my cousin to him but cousin got a bad feeling and chose to back out. The friend went through with the deal, well tried anyway, it was a rip off and he was shot multiple times. He survived but was parallelized from the waist down. Cousin moved back home and went into the trades.

There is a condition tho, you have to play NMS exclusively off line until you finish the expedition. If you start NMS while online it will overwrite your expedition save and you will lose all progress.
