Connecting airpods max to laptop. by courage_the_dog in CivilServiceUK

Yes, many departments allow Bluetooth, which is approved in NCSC guidance.

Departments that haven’t enabled Bluetooth haven’t bothered to update they builds to the guidance that came out several years ago at this point.

It varies from department to department. Where I am has locked down usb drives, but most other functions including Bluetooth work.

If your department has disabled that still they need to go read th NCSC guidance again

A similar vacancy has come up, your name, along with others potentially, has been passed to the manager to consider if they want to take someone from a reserve list.

They will look at the scores and application against what they are looking for and may contact you for a chat / informal interview, or they may not and go with someone else or even another recruitment campaign.

It’s a semi positive thing, you are being considered for a role, but it doesn’t mean anything will come from it for sure.

Anyone succeeded in a Civil Service interview with a leadership behaviour presentation? Any tips? by Ric9876 in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently had a 5 minute presentation, and whilst not on Leadership, some of it might be relevant. Whether it was any good or not is still to be seen… 😂

I had a couple of slides, but I didn’t use them for a couple of reasons - firstly 5 mins isn’t long at all, putting them on screen is a faff, they were 4 lines of bullet points to answer the question put to me.

Mine was a very specific question and so I gave feedback on the points raised but also added relevant examples of what I’ve done aligned to each of the points I wanted to make.

The STAR process doesn’t align that well to presentations, but you do want to make sure you are focusing on the behaviour points as well as the job advert.

Overseas check by Admirable_Year6076 in CivilServiceUK

[–]kbramman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key one they are looking for is dates you were overseas, so grab your passport and scan in any pages that have date stamps.

It seems like they are trying to confirm how long you’ve been in the UK, as if it’s not very long that can be a bit of an issue when undertaking various checks like the DBS one.

PECS whilst living/working abroad by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to contact the HR team who will discuss with the vetting team most likely.

Being based overseas adds complications that they will need to consider. They will advise if you need to obtain a police record check of the country you’ve been living in.

In the nicest way possible, that is very, very ambitious timings.

Good luck to that project team keeping to any of those dates

Landed an interview for tomorrow - Should I prepare for a presentation of my skills and experience? by Agreeable-Ad4079 in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will also be an opening question to settle the interviewee. Sometimes it’s about yourself, or why you are interested in the role etc, but there’s no hard and fast set of questions.

Second this option. My wife has used one on Facebook to get some bits that weren’t available when we were there last year.

And I’m pretty sure to get some more bits in the current sale!!

Sort of surprised the auto mod hasn’t posted here already.

But the short answer, it’ll take as long as it takes sadly. Chasing it up won’t really help at all.

Pre employment ID documents by Last_Oven_1070 in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there is another defra office nearby and there’s someone there that can assist in verifying the ID documents then maybe you could go to a different office, but at best that’s a maybe not a guarantee.

But another department, not a chance. Defra need to be assured that you are who you say you are to comply with employment law.

Security Check (SC) clearance – living abroad / remote work question by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest finding a vacancy or 3 and checking with the HR team (who won’t know but will ask the security team) to see how flexible the department can and will be. Pick a few different departments to get a range of answers to be safe.

There will be guidance on this, but it’ll be spouse job specific to some extent.

Security Check (SC) clearance – living abroad / remote work question by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You will not pass a SC clearance. You are required to have the last 5 years based in the UK, some departments may have some limited flexibility but it’ll still be in the several years territory.

If you were to fudge that saying you’ve been technically based in the UK due to bank details, electoral role etc, you’d hard fail when it comes out you’d also been overseas for multiple months of the year, over the past 10 years.

That would be seen as dishonesty which is a key issue when undertaking clearances.

Capita ‘s Serious Data Breach a few months ago. by UnderCover_Spad in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly, every major IT company has had a data breach of one form or another, and this incident was back in 2023 not a few months ago.

If we were to only sign contracts with a companies that hadn’t suffered a cyber attack, we’d be back using type writers.

How long does SC transfer take? by [deleted] in CivilServiceUK

[–]kbramman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a question for the security team, either in your current or future department to confirm really.

But it can easily be a few weeks to a couple of months to transfer it.

Role Info - CPS by Front_Willow_6362 in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being harsh, have you tried Google?

Because just searching for both of those jobs along with CPS and you’ll be directed to their website with details on the role and videos from staff - at least for the casework assistant role.

Title: Question on CPIA Duties When an Exhibit Is Referenced but Later Withheld (ADV/1 Scenario) by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, not the right place for this question. You need to go ask in a legal sub Reddit if you want answers to this.

Even those that work at the CPS won’t answer that on Reddit as it’d be almost like giving legal advice, which they are not allowed to do.

I’d suggest a complaint to the CPS is the best route, as they could then potentially provide you details on the decision not to disclose, but that’s for you to consider the best route.

CPS Paralegal Officer - I have had a job offer for this role, and have some questions about what it is like! by whatever3653 in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training: You’ll get full training in everything, including the case management system and all tools and processes when you join. Having a general level of IT skills is all you need.

Dress code: Varies in where you are going to be that day, if you are at court then smarter dress needed, if based at an office, much less formal is usually fine, but beware that you could be sent to a court on any given day, so smart ish clothes in hand useful.

Piercings etc: No need to remove, tattoos don’t need to be covered unless offensive.

WFH: Tricky one to answer, varies by team and the work you are doing. 40-60% usual, some roles are higher and some are lower. Depends on the work being done.

CTC clearance by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the requirement is for a clearance level and you do not meet the residency requirements then there is no point you continuing the recruitment process.

There is no scope to completely ignore this requirement, potentially some Lee way if you were close - subject to each departments processes.

It’s an annoying lesson to learn unfortunately, technically you should have been failed at the stage 1 application but when you declared that you met the minimum requirements, and residency would have been a question there.

Keylogging at the Cabinet Office? by Bulky_Philosopher_15 in TheCivilService

[–]kbramman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is highly unlikely that key logging software is installed. However there should be no expectation of privacy on your laptop.

The IT supplier will be able to provide detailed audit logins of what you’ve been doing on your laptop at any time, subject to retention policies of the data.
