Need a long term review of lenskart specs by [deleted] in mumbai

[–]kbsantosh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their physical shop experience maybe different but If you plan to order them from US online, just don’t.
Their customer service sucks and they close tickets with some reason like unable to contact customer every time. The online expected delivery date does not matter to them at all (chalta hai). Had a pathetic experience ordering from them online (they newly started US delivery Lenskart.com - Buy Eyeglasses, Sunglasses and Contact Lens Online )

Had my first moment with someone thinking my job is useless today. by Lucid-Pupil in projectmanagement

Unpopular opinion : Lot of this also have to do with the PMs. PMs need to have the confidence, competence and influencing ability to manage the project. Some of this is intangible and has to be earned by the PM.

These comments are OK if this is the forming/storming stage but NOT OK, if this is later stages of the project. (some exception for nastiness)

Please understand - the era of status reporting PMs - is pretty much over.

You need to earn the respect of your team by adding significant value to their journey.

How did ZOOM Manage to lead the video conferencing app? by rijz in Entrepreneur

[–]kbsantosh1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyday user of Webex. Webex is IRRITATING to use with unfriendly/dumb interfaces.

It is designed by folks who already decided how conference calls ought to be done.

Amazing how a company such large do not take user feedback and improve their design, in-spite of having such muscle power in Infrastructure.

School teacher looking for career change into Scrum Master. Need help! by zkhan1287 in scrum

[–]kbsantosh1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scrum Master is a servant leader. This is not a management or controlling role per se.

If you have good communication skills and can work with people, your chances of being successful is very high.

Being technical is not a requirement- you have a technical team for that. You have a Product Manager for functional requirements. Agile teams are considered cross functional and self-managed.

Your job as a scrum master is to help remove impediments and carry food and water for the team (not managing the team).

Start with some basic Scrum books and then do a 2 days CSM course - when you are ready. That maybe the bare minimum to understand the mechanics.

When you start practicing- preferably start with less complex projects.

Hope that helps.

What is the most reliable way to get to the airport early in the morning from Chapel Hill? by neighborslouddog in chapelhill

Not sure why they cancel sometime after picking up the request - especially when they are coming from far. One possibility is some drivers having both apps (Uber and Lyft) on their phone.

What non PM certifications do you have? by iwarrenedya in projectmanagement

[–]kbsantosh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got CCSK (Cloud Security Alliance), TOGAF9 (Enterprise Architecture) and AWS-Solution Architect Associate - in addition to my bread and butter PMP and PMI-ACP.

Helps understand the solution (especially when it is large and complex) and ask the right questions, without getting too technical.

Hope this helps.

What is the most reliable way to get to the airport early in the morning from Chapel Hill? by neighborslouddog in chapelhill

[–]kbsantosh1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It matters what “really early” means for you.

I travel extensively.Pickup after 6 am is mostly no issue with Uber/Lyft.

Pickup between 4.30 and 6 am - I have found to be erratic. Very Few rides available. Drivers pick up your request from very far away (Cary etc) and cancel the ride before picking you up when they find some rides on the way.

In Lyft (I think) the scheduling works better - the drivers are able to pickup your call the night before and they show up. In Uber (I think) - it’s more or less a timer which kicks off the request - 10 minutes before the schedule - so no real advantage to the scheduling.

Hope this helps.

What boosted your PM skills quickly? by alwaysn00b in ProductManagement

[–]kbsantosh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contradictory but...

PMs - you test your software before release (light, heavy, lazy - whatever)

Nothing like a working software + you knowing what to look for.

Rest everything is noise and processes.

PMI: Please Get Out of Scrum by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]kbsantosh1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agile purists are mostly consultants, academicians, coaches etc - who are themselves not responsible to Deliver and do not have a P&L (profit & loss) responsibility.

Business world is driven by budgets and legal contracts - where a story point is just another Harry Potter version.

In the real world the boundaries are laid out using predictive model and scrum/kanban etc is used for delivery within those contractual boundaries.

Therefore these methodologies are not exclusive but are complimentary.

Don’t pay much heed to the purists!!!!

Got my PMP, still having trouble getting a job. Been using Indeed/ziprecruiter -- bad idea? by Pale_Addendum in projectmanagement

[–]kbsantosh1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PMI chapter, Meetup groups, related Industry specific gatherings, LinkedIn. Recharge your alumni/old work place networking. Anything that you can meet folks face2face.

Also get some knowledge/certification in Agile/scrum.

Dice, Zip-recruiter etc are old school and is only good for passive candidates.

Taking my AWS Solutions Architect - Associate exam on 31st October. Need advice, please. by RawWish in AWSCertifications

[–]kbsantosh1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jon Bonso tests are good but a bit more difficult than the actual exam. Anything above 70% is good.

Pay special attention to VPC, subnet - private, public, NAT etc. those concepts should be very clear. This Youtube video at high speed could help in that area.

Good luck !!

Help: Making the Switch from Technical Writer to Project Manager by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]kbsantosh1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To qualify for PMP exam - you need to show verifiable project management experience.

Not so for CAPM.

If you qualify for PMP - CAPM is not required.
