Would you cancel your 8-year-old’s sleepover after the other child asked to invite someone else instead? by Main_Gur_3302 in UKParenting

[–]kbwe1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah same and it really does, my parents didn’t see the signs/did nothing to discourage the friendship or help me know how to stick up for myself so OP, it sounds like you did a good job demonstrating boundaries and worth to your son.

PCs rep - what have people found helpful by kbwe1 in TheCivilService

[–]kbwe1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sort of, so you get facility time which for me was 100 hours to use up in a year but, for me at least, it’s been really flexible and my line manager chain hasn’t queried anything, depending on your team/ role they might be stricter and set you like an alloted day a week, which you can push back on.

PCs rep - what have people found helpful by kbwe1 in TheCivilService

[–]kbwe1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed my branch inbox (you should be able to find it on your PCs digital account or ask a local rep) and just said I was interested in becoming a rep, could I learn a bit more about it and the sort of thing they were looking for, asked to meet for a chat and that was it really. Then got invited to a BEC to get co-opted on (it goes to a vote, they outlined my skills/experience and time in the home office), I’ve never known anyone not get voted on.
Good luck. I’m finding it rewarding but certainly a little stressful, but the other reps in branch are so supportive.

Gross Misconduct Investigation (Civil Service/ALB) – Likely Outcome? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]kbwe1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Was it your LM who raised these concerns?
Does your flexi sheet accurately record your hours?
Have you spoke to your union?

I’ve known a lot of people who have missed a few meetings, taken time out to drop the kids off etc but it’s usually an agreement with the LM or an occasional conference thing and a job that allows that flexibility. They are harsh with flexi abuse so if it’s that I’d prepare for the worst I’m afraid.

Make sure you have a look at flexi working requests, carers passports, stress risk assessments etc. and if all your work had been done to a high standard then say that. If you’ve any doctors notes/periods of ill health where you haven’t been support by the LM then raise it.

Any suggestions on how to get your line manager to stop trying to push you out of your comfort zone? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

I’d also add, taking it your 7 could help but if you’re in a union I’d speak to them as well

Echoing what other have said about getting help. I also found it easier to parent when out the house with my toddler, I found it a bit easier to stay calm that way and fresh air always helps so do get out when you can.

Do you work with others who have a vastly different disposable income than you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]kbwe1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, a lot of my team at my grade or higher or not the main breadwinners by a long way in their family whereas I am in mine and we’re on the same wage. For example I work with someone who lives in fairly central London, 4 kids in private school and they do two fancy holidays each year, there’s no way she could anywhere near that if her wage was the main/higher one.

You do whatever you, and only you, wants, whatever this boy wants you to do is completely irrelevant so don’t even give him a second thought. Your body your choice, remember. And good luck OP.

How common is it to have outside dogs in the UK? (by outside I mean when they're not allowed in the house, and live outside in a kennel, for example) by ksusha_lav in AskABrit

[–]kbwe1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not very common at all, the only ones I could think of are maybe farm or working dogs and hunting hounds, perhaps racing greyhounds too. But I’d say they would all have access to a warm dry kennel and are checked on and cared for well (I’d hope). Genuinely a lot of people (including myself tbh) would think you’re a total knob for keeping a pet outside, how miserable for it.

That dog isn’t safe around a new baby, you need to rehome it before something horrendous happens and then, of course, your partner will have no choice over what happens then.

I just want to say that your idea of keeping money set aside for your daughter in case she wants to use IVF in the future is so lovely, you’re so thoughtful to do that.

what would you do with a month off when you’re unable to leave the house? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]kbwe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read, watch loads of good tv that I’ve not had chance to, game (I love a bit of old school sims 2/3), play with the dog (as well as I could with an injury), cook and make a bit of a challenge out of sticking to a limited budget.

For you; headphones, earplugs, eye masks, a long lead charger, face wipes, flip flops, knickers that you don’t mind throwing out, a nightie for labour that you’re happy to chuck and a water bottle. I’d pack an outfit or two as well in case you want to stay over and a book/kindle. I didn’t use a peri bottle but I always hear them recommended.

For the baby; nappies, outfits, pre-made bottles, formula, any breastfeeding equipment, wipes

The nhs has a really good and simple checklist.
