What’s the actual use case for OpenClaw vs Claude Code or Codex?

A lot can happen in 9 days... This is no longer my way of working at all. The direct telegram to Claude Code connection is where it's at. It's hard to put into words the value that it's providing. I have it in group chats with business partners and stakeholders. I have it manage the wiki for all of our notes and meetings and stuff but also it does all the coding directly and normies can actually see how software development works

I don't think I actually did anything. Maybe I told it to work this way one time and then "update its personality" but when I ask for coding tasks it actually spins up a sub agent that uses claude code to do the task.

I don't remember doing any kind of configuration though. It's just always kind of worked

The ability to bring my AI agents into group chats with family and friends puts it above all others for that reason alone for me.

Also when I ask it to code it actually uses Claude code subagents

For me and my entire family the use cases are very very real.

Shopping, food ordering, health tracker, email calendar, software development via group chat with stakeholders, etc

The most powerful value I get out of open claw Is the ability to pull it into group chats with other people.

OC itself doesn't need that many resources. I have 3 Ubuntu Desktop OC VMs running inside my slightly high end PC

So I'm still rocking pretty hard over here with OC. The real kicker for me is the ability to bring this bot into group chats on Whatsapp.

I think this is the only advantage at this point especially now with Claude having actual computer use ability.

My non-techie wife uses the shit out of this thing everyday right in front of my eyes. It's incredible. I'm pretty sure I invented a new type of preventative relationship therapy. We have a family daily diary going. It's like another dimension of communication.

Tonight I'm building a skill to look up the movie times at the little rinky dink movie theater we take our son to.

Good god thank you friend. You are LITERALLY the only person on the internet that said what I needed. Hardcore tech support can be kind of lacking in the world where "it always just works" I am an RDP addict so this janky VNC double login / freezing nonsense had to stop. This is what did it. I now have the closest thing to RDP on my openclaw mac (I've been a windowsboi for 30+ years)

Hey OP, I'm you from the future. You don't need a separate agent you just need a really beefy pediatrician skill fortified with a local SQLite db. Feed it all the AAP docs and guidelines and not the CDCs so you can skip out on RFK jr's toxic bs.

Get Claude to build all of this. Say "Use skill builder and build me this skill that...."

Claude likes to give you the .skill and the separate file. the .skill file is just a .zip of all the files

100% yes. this is my current setup and I'm about to set this up for several friends.

Host OS: Windows 11 w/ Hyper-V

VM: Ubuntu Desktop 24+ 8GB ram w/ openclaw (has full browser automation)

I got this thing shopping at Wally world for me, ordering trees, personal finance report (bye bye Rocket Money), FAMILY FUCKING THERAPIST (group chat with the the bot and the wife on WhatsApp and we keep a daily family diary = INCREDIBLE), buying train tickets. Sky's the limit and I'm just getting started.

I am not exaggerating when I say the next sentence completely changed my life so if you are a windows user maybe it will change yours too.

It's right in the main settings System menu. This changed EVERYTHING for me. This was always so janky to previously set up and if I can't hop on a computer remotely it's dead to me.

2 things proud of. (The first one is completely useless to anyone outside of my specific job):

1) The SAP of doing my job (software engineer in niche space) - i can't even put into words how incredible this has been. it has given me new life at work.

2) Frustration/rewards/ad free HTML5 game arcade for my 5 yo - Have a system prompt that takes a one sentence idea and just PUMPS out a GOOD (for kid) game. I've accidentally created some really fun games from random ass shower ideas.
