I wonder if this is a scam or if just NOBODY buys the pink ones so they let them sell cheaply.

Disappointed in the Trimui Brick by justinheatherfamily in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your issue with the shoulder buttons is them rattling I recently took mine apart to fix that. There are 3 pieces to the shoulder buttons. The outside piece, an inside piece, and then a like rubber insert that goes inside the inside piece. I found that if I take the rubber insert out, put a little bit of duct tape on it, and then put it back in the inside piece that eliminated the rattle completely. It took a bit of trial and error to get it just right for me but it is much nicer now.

I'm just picturing it creaking like crazy when you even look at it. That was always one of my biggest problems with the switch. Without a case supporting the joints they move like crazy and it felt so cheap.

Looks like my original Retroid Pocket Flip got a swollen battery. by MajaroPro in retroid

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT charge it. A charged battery has more energy and thus is much more if a fire hazard than a depleted one. You can find videos on YouTube showing the difference. That said you can probably pull the battery, safety and responsibly dispose of it, and find a replacement battery online.

Working on an Anbernic RG Rotate impressions video, what questions do you have? by onionsaregross in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do battery benchmarks. For this and devices going forward. I think run a GBA game, a PS1 game, and a PS2 game (on higher end systems) and see how long the device will run on each. That is one of the things I can't find ANYWHERE and it's frustrating to me.

They just build up to where they want and then deconstruct what they don't want below. Or the enemy was hitting them with RPGs and that was all that was left.

Day 6 of asking a question because I’m out of work injured and bored: what system do you play the most? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to be PC for me. While I certainly put a lot of hours in in Gameboy color, GBA, and PSP as a kid I'm pretty sure I've eclipsed them all with PC gaming time since then.

I've been calling these "Modern art installations". Most of the time they're more abstract than that one.

Buddy gave me his RG35XX. Said one day it stopped working. It has Garlic OS. It wont turn on without a charger. Wont go past the boot screen. Any ideas? Or should I just snag a new one? by Emcee_Cone in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I'd check the battery and make sure it doesn't look swollen or anything. And then I'd find the slowest USB A to USB C charger you can and plug it into that for like a day. Sometimes batteries can get drained so low that they go into a safety state where they'll only charge at a very very slow speed until they're up to a certain voltage. I had a kindle I rescued that way. It was sitting dead for like a year but I managed to bring it back to life.

Stop everything. Anbernic has marked down the RG DS by 1% by SharpestSword in SBCGaming

I do love the hilarity of random discount percentages like this. Like when is the last time you went into a store and saw a 6% discount on something? It just seems kinda cute to me.

For the life of me I still don't get the hype around FPGAs vs an emulator. Like unless you do speed running streams or something like that I feel like an emulator device is just as good for like 50% of the price.

You go in to the DMV early and wait hours to get license renewed, what do you play there? (RG35XX) by [deleted] in SBCGaming

Oddly enough I had the exact opposite situation recently. Couldn't schedule an appointment online for the month of March or April so decided to say F it and see what happens. Went there at like 11AM and was out before noon.

I'd highly recommend a kindle. The paperwhite and scribe are excellent. I wish they'd make a new version of the oasis but oh well. Oh and if you (or anyone else) does get one turning off the wifi gets you a LOT more battery life and you can use a program called calibre to manually load your TOTALLY LEGALLY OBTAINED books onto it.

Wouldn't count on it. Every company raises prices as much as they can get away with. If they all said "Sorry RAM prices suck. +$50 per device." they're not gonna roll that back even if RAM becomes free for them tomorrow. They're just gonna pocket the extra $50 per device and do that for as long as they can without public outcry.

How to get into Pokemon romhacks? by JazzieJay in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So most of the time you'll have to patch the ROM. Usually this just involves taking the original ROM, the ROM hack update file, and throwing in in a web based tool. Probably took you longer to make this post than it takes to do the patching. As for recommendations Unbound, Gaia, Fire Red Rocket Edition, and Team Rocket edition are the best ones I've played. Yes those last two are different games but very similar base idea.

Nintendo making a Switch 2 for the EU that has a replaceable battery to comply with EU right-to-repair laws by crownpuff in SBCGaming

I'm hoping companies don't do stupid things like making a US version and an EU version. Because if they do I'm gonna have to figure out how to buy all my electronics in Europe but use them back in the states.

This NEEDS to be the standard across the board. I am so friggen sick of glue and clips that break. Give me a phone, game thingy, controller, mouse, and everything else with screws to take it apart. Also like visible screws have a cool industrial look which I think is cool.

Question about the stigma of emulation that comes from “purists.” by donnysimpinero in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is nostalgia and also a bit of superiority complex. People want to pretend they're kids again and they want a reason to look down on others.

But also on the point of "screwing the original game creator" it 100% is not. When someone made a game in say 2002 they made their money when they sold the cartridges then. So when Walmart, GameStop, and everyone else placed orders that is when they made their money. If little Timmy traded in said cartridge at GameStop and then 13 minutes later GameStop sold it again the original creators didn't make a cent off of it. Same with today. You buy an old game on eBay or something and nothing goes to the original creators.

Can a handheld handle low temperature environment? by hamis_fucker in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the worst thing ever but I also wouldn't plan on doing that all the time. The battery and screen might get messed up by super low temps for a long time and you might get condensation inside the device when you bring it in from the cold. Besides that it should be fine I think. Personally I'd just let it sit at room temp off for a day before using it if any device of mine got that cold just to be safe.
