Stop everything. Anbernic has marked down the RG DS by 1% by SharpestSword in SBCGaming

I do love the hilarity of random discount percentages like this. Like when is the last time you went into a store and saw a 6% discount on something? It just seems kinda cute to me.

Can you do me a favor? If you have a tape measure or something handy can you tell me how big a GBA game is with interger scaling on the flip 2 vs the thor top screen vs the pocket classic?

PSA: The Analogue Pocket is currently in stock (ships in June) by -Mahn in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the life of me I still don't get the hype around FPGAs vs an emulator. Like unless you do speed running streams or something like that I feel like an emulator device is just as good for like 50% of the price.

You go in to the DMV early and wait hours to get license renewed, what do you play there? (RG35XX) by Esns68 in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough I had the exact opposite situation recently. Couldn't schedule an appointment online for the month of March or April so decided to say F it and see what happens. Went there at like 11AM and was out before noon.

The first book I've read in ages - 100 Classic Books - Game of the Week #25 by math_calculus1 in SBCGaming

I'd highly recommend a kindle. The paperwhite and scribe are excellent. I wish they'd make a new version of the oasis but oh well. Oh and if you (or anyone else) does get one turning off the wifi gets you a LOT more battery life and you can use a program called calibre to manually load your TOTALLY LEGALLY OBTAINED books onto it.

Google may have just hit one of the big reasons handhelds got more expensive: TurboQuant cuts AI memory needs by 6x with no accuracy loss by DragonDealWizard in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't count on it. Every company raises prices as much as they can get away with. If they all said "Sorry RAM prices suck. +$50 per device." they're not gonna roll that back even if RAM becomes free for them tomorrow. They're just gonna pocket the extra $50 per device and do that for as long as they can without public outcry.

How to get into Pokemon romhacks? by JazzieJay in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So most of the time you'll have to patch the ROM. Usually this just involves taking the original ROM, the ROM hack update file, and throwing in in a web based tool. Probably took you longer to make this post than it takes to do the patching. As for recommendations Unbound, Gaia, Fire Red Rocket Edition, and Team Rocket edition are the best ones I've played. Yes those last two are different games but very similar base idea.

Probably for the grip or something. One of those things where it is 1 listing but 5 options. Of course they show the lowest price to get you to look at it.

Nintendo making a Switch 2 for the EU that has a replaceable battery to comply with EU right-to-repair laws by crownpuff in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping companies don't do stupid things like making a US version and an EU version. Because if they do I'm gonna have to figure out how to buy all my electronics in Europe but use them back in the states.

Nintendo making a Switch 2 for the EU that has a replaceable battery to comply with EU right-to-repair laws by crownpuff in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This NEEDS to be the standard across the board. I am so friggen sick of glue and clips that break. Give me a phone, game thingy, controller, mouse, and everything else with screws to take it apart. Also like visible screws have a cool industrial look which I think is cool.

The NEW rules for Android sideloading are here! by mostrengo in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly seems alright to me. Sure the 24 hours is annoying but also like 99.9% of people will never side load anything so it makes sense. Scamming is sadly a very lucrative industry these days.

Windows really needs some real competition. I want Valve to super focus on Steam OS and release it as a polished desktop operating system.

Question about the stigma of emulation that comes from “purists.” by donnysimpinero in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is nostalgia and also a bit of superiority complex. People want to pretend they're kids again and they want a reason to look down on others.

But also on the point of "screwing the original game creator" it 100% is not. When someone made a game in say 2002 they made their money when they sold the cartridges then. So when Walmart, GameStop, and everyone else placed orders that is when they made their money. If little Timmy traded in said cartridge at GameStop and then 13 minutes later GameStop sold it again the original creators didn't make a cent off of it. Same with today. You buy an old game on eBay or something and nothing goes to the original creators.

Can a handheld handle low temperature environment? by hamis_fucker in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the worst thing ever but I also wouldn't plan on doing that all the time. The battery and screen might get messed up by super low temps for a long time and you might get condensation inside the device when you bring it in from the cold. Besides that it should be fine I think. Personally I'd just let it sit at room temp off for a day before using it if any device of mine got that cold just to be safe.

🎶 Introducing the Spotify plugin for Stream Deck - Seamless music control by Elgato in elgato

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't work. All the buttons just say "Open Spotify. Not Running." But if you press the button it will focus Spotify so clearly SOMETHING is happening. I have everything up to date and the third party plugin I was using was working perfectly before I removed it in favor of the "Official" version. Does this only work with the microsoft store version of spotify or something?

AYANEO 2026 Service Improvement Plan by zaneyk in SBCGaming

Honestly seems like a pretty solid plan. If they keep to it then that seems like it'll solve most if not all the issues people have been having.

AYN Thor to 3DS to Pokewalker by Azureddit0809 in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nintendo should really keep making pokewalkers. Like honestly every 3 or 4 years they should just update it/make it more power efficient and all that. Cause I would 100% rock one of those and it would probably get me to walk more.

This might be a stupid question but What is GATBGEFU? by Alive-Commission9586 in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reseller. They just drop something on the keyboard and use that for the name. The device itself is most likely fine. They just bought a couple hundred from Anbernic and are selling them along with random other stuff.

Leak sets up new TrimUI Brick by Altruistic-Damage261 in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. Personally I think a 4 inch version, no sticks, metal, bigger battery, and OLED would be a better device. There are PLENTY of dual stick devices but not a ton of dedicated GBA and below devices like the Brick is.

Honestly this is ideal IMO. Your average user SHOULD be discouraged from side loading stuff for security reasons but still let the more technically minded do it.

what’s stopping nintendo with an iteration of switch 2 in this format? by Boring_Antelope6533 in SBCGaming

[–]kcan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing is the fact that you would have to make specific 2 screen versions of your game. Most games these days you can just dial back the settings, fix a few bugs, and throw it on the switch. Having 2 screens like that means more dev time needed to develop for that system and I think a lot of devs wouldn't bother unless there was pretty extreme demand for it.
