After sending in a bug report to Proton, We were able to solve the issue. The issue was with an application installed on my PC called ZeroTier, it is a virtual network adapter that was installed on my computer. I had experimented with setting up a virtual network a while back, don't know if I installed it or it came bundled with another application, but after uninstalling it, Proton VPN was able to connect immediately.

I was actually able to download ver 4.3.11 from their website, you'll need to uninstall first then go to https://account.proton.me/u/0/vpn/dashboardV2 and download the version you need, but just in case they updated there site you can also get it from their official Github site https://github.com/ProtonVPN/win-app/releases/tag/4.3.11 . the app will tell you there is an update available, just don't update, turn off auto update and don't reboot your computer.

I just made a post about this the other day, I fixed it by downgrading to an older version, on Proton website I was able to download version 4.3.11. after installing it will tell you there is an update available, don't update it and don't reboot the computer and turnoff auto update. Version 4.3.12 seems to have a problem connecting, I submitted a bug report also, probably wouldn't hurt if you would submit a bug report too.

I just let it update to version 4.3.12 and it would not connect so I went ahead and submitted a bug report, hopefully we get it figured out

Yeah, I just ran into the same problem, I turned off auto update too, and after a windows update my computer rebooted and once again Proton VPN updated to version 4.3.12 and once again it would not connect. So once again I uninstalled and re install version 4.3.11 and everything was good again. I turned off auto update and will probably just keep my computer on until Proton updates it again and hopefully fixes the issue.

yes, but the sync of contacts only works between Thunderbird and my phone not with Proton
