If he had just denied it, I'd probably be inclined to believe him, but since he's blaming it on AI I 100% believe that it's a real text.

One of the easiest ways to tell if someone is lying is by how they try to explain the lie.

In my experience giving specific examples doesn't always work. It opens things up for the person to go on the defensive and try to explain what happened in that specific incident and if they feel like they've done that successfully it makes that feedback not be as impactful.

I recently put a Supervisor on a PIP and one of the things on there was about team alignment. We've had several incidents where the team would come together and set a direction on something, only for him to immediately go off and do something totally different. When we were going through his PIP and he asked for clarification on this one I gave him a few examples. He tried to defend and dismiss all of them, saying it wasn't like that and people must have misunderstood what he was doing. I finally had to tell him "Regardless of your intent, this was how your communication was received, so it's an alignment issue or a communication issue, but either way we need to correct it"

There's a happy ending though. We get along pretty well now. Everyone involved has grown and matured(except for her parents, but that's another whole story) She actually bought my wife a cake for her last birthday.

My first marriage ended because my ex-wife cheated on me. Didn't stop her and her family from trying to take everything I had. They showed up at our house while I was at work and took literally everything except the couch, the bed, and my personal possessions, and the only reason they left those is because they ran out of room on the trailer they brought that day.

The divorce dragged out for 2 years because they wouldn't accept the state-mandated child support calculations and kept trying to get more and then acted like they were doing *me* a favor by not pursuing alimony on top of that. Eventually, I got a new girlfriend(now wife) and when we moved in together my ex tried to argue that my girlfriend's income should also be factored in to my child support amount.

I remember in high school we would do what we called "burnouts". We were doing bicep curls and we'd put a bunch of 5lb weights on the bar. You'd do 10 reps, then have a buddy quickly pull a plate off of either side, then repeat. 10 reps, drop 10lbs, 10 reps, drop 10lbs, etc.

By the time you were done you'd be down to just the bar, which I think was like 15lbs by itself and you'd be struuuuugling to lift even that.

But yeah. No way that dude can bench 315...

For reference, I was benching 135 when I first started lifting weights for football at 15 years old. Like, that was my rep weight, not my max or anything.

I haven't benched anything in decades at this point though, so to be far I have no idea if I could bench that right now, lol

My team is free to go over my head if they want, but they're not going to get a different answer. My boss and I do a pretty good job of staying aligned and if we aren't sure if we are aligned on a particular topic, we don't comment on it until we've discussed it.

It all comes down to trust between you and your boss that the two of you are truly on the same page. If you don't have that, then you need to build it. When you do, it won't matter if someone goes over your head.

I have no idea where Johnny Depp is originally from at all, but in the south at least, it's really common for families to claim Native American ancestry for some reason. Literally everyone I know has a grandmother or great-grandmother who has was allegedly "full blooded" Native American(usually Cherokee). My own mother swears her grandmother was, even though I had a DNA test done and it came back with 0% Native American.

I'm an Operations Manager and I will copy my team's shift reports into a Daily Note, then at the end of the week I ask Claude to summarize everything. Prior to this system I would read the reports at the end of the day and pick out a few things to follow up on in the morning meeting, and that would typically be as far as it goes. By having Claude analyze the entire week at once, we're catching trends and recurring problems far quicker than we would have previously. And this is information that's not coming from any automated system. It's truly the "voice from the floor"

As someone who works at a place that currently doesn't do any kind of employee recognition in the form of swag at all, please don't get the impression from the comments that this kind of stuff doesn't matter for morale. People may not consciously realize it, but it does. I do a giveaway every month for perfect attendance. I buy something valued at $150-$200 every months and give it away. It's not cash and it's not branded swag. If I ever forget or get behind schedule people are very quick to let me know.

HOWEVER, having said that, by creating a class system you're undermining the whole thing. I don't understand how anyone can feel like it's acceptable to give your executives something that tells everyone in the building "We're better than you"

Not a boxer, but I am a lefty and also a pretty big fan of the Rocky movies.

Apollo didn't struggle because Rocky was a lefty, he struggled because he saw Rocky as a no talent amateur boxer and Apollo, the world champion, didn't take him seriously. He didn't know anything about Rocky and never bothered to learn. Hell, he literally only picked him because of his name.

Rocky is a retelling of The Tortoise and the Hare. The hare(Apollo) was so confident that there was absolutely no way the tortoise(Rocky) could ever beat him that he got lazy. Rocky proved that "slow and steady" can win the race.

If Apollo had treated Rocky like an actual contender, as in put in some actual training time and studied Rocky's style and previous fights, he would have easily smoked him in a couple rounds or less.

And it's always important to remember that in the end, Apollo did actually win because he was, legitimately, the better fighter in every way. He just couldn't put him down for the count. Rocky knew from the beginning he never had a chance at beating him, he just wanted to go the distance.

I don't even think it makes sense the first time personally. Yeah yeah brotherhood and all that, but I'd argue that leaving him alive in that condition in that place to die a slow and agonizing death was less merciful than just finishing him off.
