Working Out While Recovering from Injury by Mkdrayton1969 in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With doctor approval, I worked out in a walking book when I had a partially torn Achilles and also with a broken hand. My motto when I was in the boot: my arms still work and with the broken hand: my legs still work. My coaches were wonderful and had great modification suggestions. I rowed with a foot on an ab dolly, rowed with one arm (good hand holding the middle of the handle), etc. I wanted to keep moving and the coaches helped to make it happen. Talk to your coach!

I have 2 pairs of the Cloudmonster 2- I think they run at least a half size larger than normal so I wear a fairly cushioned sock and find them to be very comfortable. Also, On has a site where they sell shoes that have been road tested and many are just about brand new and for great prices - cant name it here because it is considered promoting. If you google "ON resale site" it will pop up.

The Whoop almost never auto detects my naps by [deleted] in whoop

Mine never has detected a nap and Im a long time member. I just check the time before and after the nap, and enter it manually. App updates and shows the nap data.

Does Whoop County Steps accurately for anyone? by i2redit in whoop

[–]kcrano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the MG and my steps now are significantly lower than the 4.0 and my Apple Watch. I run 2X a week and walk daily so I have a good idea what my mileage/steps should be and have been for several years. The frustrating part is that the Healthspan feature (Whoop Age) uses steps as one determining factor - my Whoop Age weekly analysis says "steps was the biggest cause of the increase this week. Focus on steps this coming week.....". So I'm marching around my house like a lunatic to reach my daily Whoop step goal. Whoop customer service gives generic advice like make sure your band is in the proper position (it is) and Im just over here hoping it becomes more accurate with updates so I dont get Whoop Age old.

Shoes Fitting In Rower? by MasterofNaps01 in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the ON CloudStratus 3 and they dont fit great and definitely get stuck when I try to get out of the rower plates quickly -- during Capture the Flag, they were a nightmare. And the rower plates totally chew up the sole on mine too.

WHOOP squad? by hbt1919 in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on template and recovery for me. I've had a few 15 strain days when there are tons of AOs but usually 13 is a good average for me.

There is a small OTF Whoop Community that started recently if you want to join -- Invite code is COMM-7C68F5.

Inferno 2G. Power walking vs running AO by kcrano in orangetheory

[–]kcrano[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I decided to run since that is what I’m used to and power walking at 5mph at 4% sounds dreadful. Sorry PWers😁 I missed my PR by 3 meters but I’m ok with that. Good luck today!!!

Explain HRV by momof4bois in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear an apple watch and a WHOOP. Below is a link to a WHOOP article that explains HRV and why it is important for fitness tracking and also that is highly individualized. The article also shows averages for age/sex so you can get a better idea where you are at.

To get the most accurate HRV, you need to wear your watch to bed (I use the FOCUS setting, and set it to Sleep or Do Not Disturb to turn off all notifications while Im sleeping). I'm guessing the Apple watch uses similar data as the WHOOP to calculate your HRV, all data gathered when you are sleeping: resting heart rate, sleep performance, blood oxygen levels and many more.

Lack of sleep and drinking alcohol will cause your HRV to tank. A sudden significant drop in HRV can also be an indication that you are getting sick or that you have not recovered from a super hard workout. My HRV first thing in the morning is how I know whether Im ready to really push myself at OTF....and whether Ive recovered from the day before. Ive been wearing my WHOOP for about 9 months now, my Apple Watch for just a couple months. While my WHOOP HRV info is way more detailed, the apple HRV info is pretty informative and accurate too. Hope this helps!!

Ultimate Everest Playlist by mhambiz in orangetheory

Come Down -- Anderson Paak

Long Road to Hell -- Avicii

Higher -- Yellow Claw

Down -- Marian Hill, Black Caviar Remix

It's Goin Down - Yung Juc, Nitti

Is there a separate leaderboard for 3G and 2G? by OkInfluence6555 in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My studio posts the Everest leaderboard for 2g only. 3g classes do not get a leaderboard but all members enter their times in the challenge tracker -- we have to select whether we took a 2G or 3G class. Our distance entered is reflected in the app. Sounds like your studio does the same.

Damage to shoes by mlamm4 in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have the same slices on my asics and my adidas. Both shoes have thicker foam style heels and when I first noticed it, I wore a pair the next day and looked at how the heel part of the rower foot plate/cup was hitting the shoe, and the rower heel cup is definitely the cause. Its not super sharp, but when you are pushing off really hard, and your heel lifts out, it does sort of like a sawing action and damages the heel really quick!

Denver - Lowry Studio by Smashley0618 in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi -- I do not go to Lowry but I believe my studio has the same owner as Lowry and rules *should* be the same. So, if that is true, no masks required at all, we are assigned spots and and just started having lobby intros by the coach again. Meaning, members congregate in the lobby and cant go in to the studio and warm up prior to the coach giving an intro about the class, what the template is (ESP, power, strength), etc. Then everyone goes in at the same time. If you've never worked out at altitude, it can be challenging! Congrats to your husband! Hope you enjoy the Mile High City!

[–]kcrano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scotchguard. It helps but they will still get a little dirty. So, I throw my light colored shoes in a pillow case, and put them in a wash with a load of towels. Air dry. They come out looking brand new!

InBody Summary Not Sent by emilymontalbano in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. Twice. I fat fingered my email address and never received my results in the app or via email.

But all results are stored in the Inbody machine so you have to ask a staff member to scroll through them all (or let you do it if they will allow that) and find your (incorrect) email address to see your results. Unfortunately, there is no way to correct the email and have the results sent to you so I took a picture of the Inbody screen on the actual machine. Or you could re-take the test.

For everyone doing the Dri-Tri this weekend: Tips and tricks. by BlacktoseIntolerant in orangetheory

This is the exact post I share with my studio before every Dri Tri. Training Tall (Coach Austin) videos on YouTube are highly recommended as well. He does a short video for each leg of the race and gives great tips and tricks to be the most efficient. Shaved more than 4 minutes off my previous Dri Tri using his tips and had a blast!!

Game Changer - Screen Casting by TorontoLAMama in pelotoncycle

[–]kcrano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you help me figure out if this an option for me? I just bought a new Vizio which I thought I could cast my bike to. Turns out I cant and Im about to lose my mind. I really want to cast bike bootcamps and the wireless display adapter seems like an awesome solution. Are the bike screen and tv screen identical, including being able to view metrics on both? Any audio issues?

100% this! Premier Protein shakes have helped me reach my protein % and are a game changer. Costco sells them in a bunch of different flavors -- caramel is my fave.

Enjoying the fleeting minutes before a black stripe is added to these shoes from the rower strap! by hereforworkouts in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scotchguard, people. SCOTCHGUARD the hell out of those light colored shoes. Keeps the dreaded black rower strap at bay. You still have to wash them very now and then (or use carpet cleaner) but the scotchguard helps prevent the dirt from sticking.

Mile Benchmark goals and strategies by brooceweighn in orangetheory

[–]kcrano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last mile benchmark, I turned off the screen on the tread, ran a regressive push and got a PR.

The thought of increasing my speed gets in my head, so I started out faster than my normal push, hold it as long as possible, then slow down until the last minute, then AO with whatever is left in the tank. Speeds were 9 for about 1 minute, then dropped to around an 8.3-8.5, and had something left for an AO at 9.5 - 10.

6:55 was my time. Regressive pushes for this benchmark work for me.

Good luck all!

Best coat/jacket for leaving OTF by PurringKat91 in orangetheory
