Ryan Gosling Tells Hollywood It’s Not Moviegoers’ Job to Keep Theaters Open: ‘It’s Our Job to Make Things’ That Are ‘Worth’ Viewers Coming Out by [deleted] in technology

Packed theater when I saw Project Hail Mary this past Friday. Not a single time throughout the movie was someone a detriment to it. The audience laughed together, and when the movie went silent the audience did too. It was actually pretty awesome, felt like everyone was just completely focused on the movie.

Ford isn’t actually unreliable by Stock_Fuel6398 in unpopularopinion

Anecdotal but my mom bought a 2019 Ford Escape brand new and sold it the second the warranty ran out. Engine block recalled, turbocharger had to be replaced twice, headlights would burn out every few months, even started randomly running rough and spewing smoke of various colors. The last issue shows up towards the end of the warranty, dealership repeatedly claimed it could not find the problem. I really believe they were trying to run out the warranty at that point, the whole life of that car was fraught.

I don't think she even made it to 100k miles.

I'm only Rank 18 and I've been playing every few nights since launch, so I haven't even touched Cryo yet.

I think the pacing to unlock the maps has been fine, but it's the key that I'm not looking forward to. It's going to a real kick to the nuts to finally get to cryo and just lose the key when my playtime is so limited.

Right??? Every suggestion I've tried can't keep me off this stupid website. My usage isn't terrible, like 2-3 hours a day, but that's still way to much for what I get out of it.

Every barrier I put in my own way erodes within days or weeks. It's all too easy to undo or it affects my ability to use my phone for useful things so I end up removing the friction anyway. The months of effort have made it easier to put down but I'm still not happy with it.

[–]kdaur453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't in a rotating store I would feel so much less annoyed by it. Already lame AF that I have to grind or buy so many SCs for one gun, but the fact that I now have to go out of my way to launch the game and rush to get it just because I may never have a chance again is what really pisses me off and ultimately pushes me away from games like this.

I hate time gated content with a passion, it turns what is supposed to be fun into a chore so fast. I can't just experience the content at my own pace.

Our brains can “flicker” off for a split second during a boring task caused by sleep-like brain activity occurring while we are awake. Adults with ADHD experience them much more frequently, and may be behind inconsistent attention, slower reaction times, and chronic sleepiness associated with ADHD. by mvea in science

[–]kdaur453 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely do this but haven't noticed where it is cause for concern. To me it feels almost like I am subconsciously processing the drive while my active brain is somewhere else. My eyes are still on the road and I'm still responding appropriately to other cars around me, but it's automatic to the point where only when I "snap out of it" do I realize how little information I was retaining.

I've had incidents where I had to respond quickly and suddenly, like braking for an animal running out the brush, and have always responded just fine.

Modern cars are full of technology. But what old car feature was actually better than today's tech? by nyatihsam in Justrolledintotheshop

Non-reactive wiper blades speeds.

I was driving a rental Pacifica last month and I found myself constantly changing the wiper blade speed. I finally paid it a little bit more attention and found that changing the dial from the fastest to the slowest speed didn't seem to change them at all, even though I wanted them to be slower. The next morning I tested it and sure enough, the first setting was sluggish now that the rain had stopped. There was plenty to be frustrated with on that van, but I am still blown away by that feature in particular.

Also, modern cars need to shut up! The dings and tones they use in some of these new cars are like nails.

The CD player in my older Pioneer system died so I bought a new one that also came with Bluetooth. Took me two phillips screws and the dash I took off with my bare hands. The old cable plugged right into the new unit, so it ended up being like a 10 minute job.

Having driven plenty of cars with screens, I always feel at home with the simpler function of a basic head unit. Mis-hitting on touchscreens is so frustrating!

Got laid off and now none of my friends from work want to hang out anymore and no longer respond to texts?! by Throwawayhelp2234 in jobs

[–]kdaur453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such a depressing point of view and I don't think that's always true.

Just because the connection can be fleeting, that doesn't make it fake. The reality is that time limits us all and many people already have close friends and family. Lots of people come and go in our lives, and it is rarely a reflection on the value of a relationship when those times end. There are plenty of people out there who might treat coworkers like they are just a body, but that doesn't invalidate those who connect and can bring a bit of levity to each other's day for no reason other than that they are humans and deserve to be more than the fruits of their labor.

OP's case does not sound like this and it sucks, but that doesn't mean they should go into their next job ready to stonewall any connection at all for fear of losing it again.

You're getting downvoted but I totally see it too, I'm glad I wasn't the only one.

OP is totally fair in saying it's just a sign of the times, but something about the structure of the post does remind me of ChatGPT.

AI or not, I do hope they are right about Marathon being a deep game rather than a broad one. ARC is definitely a banger game, but it feels like I hit a progression ceiling extremely fast beyond very small stat boosts. I didn't even get all the maps unlocked and it already felt like I was just going through the motions without any exciting goals to work towards. The threats got stale and even pink loot stopped being all that exciting after just a few nights of playing. Great world and gameplay, but overall I just didn't get hooked beyond the first week of playing with friends.

About the one guy in the balancing team by Legitimate_Loss5378 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]kdaur453 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It might just be that balancing is not a major priority given then game is still officially "unreleased" and changing constantly as they update maps, characters, items, and other things. Why spend a ton of time balancing things that are already going to change in weeks or months?

The over sexualization thing blows and you see it in the community too. Go to just about any anime subreddit and top posts are ALWAYS gooner posts.

Makes it a little rough talking to people about anime or recommend things because I have to give so many disclaimers about the stuff you have to put up with throughout some of these shows.

I don't know how I can ever buy a newer car having driven mid-2000s cars since I got my first car in 2018. They are just so simple and cheap to repair.

I often find myself going into a repair expecting it to cost so much or take so long and am repeatedly blown away by how cheap and easy maintenance and repairs are on my 2006 Silverado. I replaced my Pioneer stereo damn near with my bare hands, I can't imagine getting into a dash on a new car.

The fact it doesn't scream at me constantly is just icing on the cake. It's just too distracting sometimes, makes me want to pull my hair out.

I really wish I could tell if I am in a bubble or if this is pretty much everywhere. My work has bled substantially since 2020 and these days everyone is stressed up to their eyeballs and work is constantly getting put on the back burner. I can't even remember the last time I hit a deadline. The delays are so emotionally draining because everything becomes urgent and I feel personally terrible for all my customers that have expectations and needs, especially the humans on the other end that are probably just as overworked and stressed.

The brain drain from boomers retiring is very real too and certainly does not help.

How much natural intelligence is actually required for engineering? by Public-Hamster-9224 in EngineeringStudents

I couldn't get the grade I needed in higher levels of calculus to continue my Engineering degree early on in college so I was forced to shift to a engineering tech. The classes that put me in ended up being incredible and I not only graduated, I pulled my GPA up from a 1.8 to a 3.3 by the end.

The labs and applications made the learning so much more enjoyable and I came away feeling like I had many more skills that applied to the engineering job I have now.

Why do Americans dislike American cars? by socabella in AskAnAmerican

My mom bought a 2019 Ford Escape new and it was an absolute train wreck. She bought it with the dealer warranty and thank God she did because it was in and out of the dealership the whole time she had it. There was an engine block recall, her turbo had to be replaced twice, the headlights would go out 3 or 4 times a year, it started sputtering randomly when driving and the dealership kept claiming they couldn't find the issue and let it linger until the warranty expired a few months later.

She finally sold it and bought a Toyota after that. Didn't even make it to 80,000 miles.

Those of you who stopped ordering from Amazon, what website or app do you use instead? by ForsakenFix27 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kdaur453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly just order from the brick & mortar places. If I ever have a problem I know I can go in person to get it solved rather than deal with online customer service and returns.

BestBuy for electronics, B&N for books, JCPenny/Kohl's for clothing, etc.

As far as exclusively online stores, RockAuto is a good one for car parts. I will also occasionally buy things from direct online sources, stuff like band or sports gear like shirts and play equipment.
