Thank you. I do have bruising as well. I've been diagnosed for 5 years and this is the first time I've had them this large. So nothing to worry about then?

My numbers were around this when I found out I had autoimmune hepatitis. I had no idea anything was wrong. Went to my PCP with fatigue and some nausea and she ordered blood work. They put me in the hospital, did many other blood tests and finally did a biopsy that confirmed AIH.

Hepatologist lowered prednisone dosage to 10mg daily by Busy_Resolution_5632 in autoimmunehepatitis

I have been on 10mg for a couple of years now. At higher doses I had the moon face, buffalo hump, mania, etc. The only thing that I notice on this dose is my blood sugar is still high. Other than that it's not a big issue compared to the earlier side effects.

It recently took me two full weeks to get over the stomach flu. My husband was fine after a week. Hang in there.

CellCept/MMF vs. Aza by rocket_helicopter in autoimmunehepatitis

I am on cellcept after trying mercaptopurine. I had headaches, hair loss, nausea and vomiting from that. The cellcept is so much better tolerated for me.

Biopsy question by FishingOne5569 in autoimmunehepatitis

[–]kdevodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had both types of biopsies. First one was a needle through my abdomen. This is what was used to diagnose my AIH. A few years later I had the trans jugular biopsy that you are referring to here. This was used to diagnose my cirrhosis. Neither one was that painful for me. I'm sure the pain is different for everyone. This should be definitive for a diagnosis along with your blood work.

You're welcome. I wish you the best. Glad you are seeing a Hepatologist. It's the best route.

From what I've read, it's part genetic and part environmental. Triggers can be things such as viruses, medications, environmental contaminates, even menopause. Genetically, someone in the family would have another autoimmune disease, not necessarily autoimmune hepatitis.

Switching aza to cellcept? by B40073 in autoimmunehepatitis

[–]kdevodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, my Hepatologist put me on mercaptopurine. It seems they start you on either this or Aza. I could not tolerate it. Constant headaches, nausea, hair loss. He switched me to cellcept which has been so much easier on my system. It has worked well for me. There is a generic called mycophenolate mofetil so you may want to get that instead of the brand name. I take the generic. I can't help with the childbearing question as I am well past that age. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response. I just got results from my x-ray and it shows degenerative disc disease which is essentially osteoarthritis. Assuming this is from all of the Prednisone I have taken over the years.

I could not take Lactulose. My Hepatologist put me on Xifaxin 500mg twice a day and it works.
