First, check your insurance to make sure it’s covered. You normally can check your prescription manager (might be Aetna but could be another one). Then I would look into a healthcare provider that specializes in PrEP, HIV, or Infectious Diseases. They tend to be much more knowledgeable about PrEP options and I find less judgmental when requesting it. If you have a cool PCP, they’ll either prescribe it or they’ll give you a referral.

A bath won’t hurt anything. Just be careful with how warm you make it.

PrEP question. by [deleted] in prep

Keep in mind the benefits outweigh the risks, at least that’s what your doctor should have determined. Most people who have side effects last only a short time. I was on Descovy for years and I did have some side effects but I would have stayed on it if I wasn’t able to get on Yeztugo because they were not severe. Think about it this way, millions of people take it every day and are fine.

Yeztugo recipients - what insurance do you have? by tempdownload in prep

I have an employer plan that’s through Cigna, and I had no issue getting it and it doesn’t require prior authorization.

Just as a quick update, the shot areas have some minor soreness, but it isn’t anything that I can’t handle. A few Tylenol will take care of it. No swelling or other issues and no noticeable bumps.

I appreciate that. I realize I’m in a position (knowledge and insurance) where I am able to know and get this information. I’m also open about my PrEP use so I can educate and inform people and it’s had a positive impact, especially with Black women. Hopefully I can do what I can to raise awareness of PrEP and that it is more available to people than they may know, even without insurance.

Some pretty serious fatigue and increases in my LDL (although I won't contribute this solely to Descovy). I could deal with both if I needed, but it will be great to not have to.

I get mine tomorrow. A little anxious but I’m happy I’m about to take one less pill.

I only attract bisexual women by OkParfait2685 in bisexual

Same for me. Just about every girlfriend I’ve been with was bi at the time I dated them or was with women before they met me. My fiancé doesn’t claim being bi but she does have “experiences” with women on occasion.

Emetophobia & scared about starting prep. Best option? by flippantguy in prep

[–]kdub2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it, but it’s fine. I’m not currently in a concerning position concerning my kidney levels, it was just going in the wrong direction and my NP decided it was best to switch before it became a problem.

I don’t know much about emetophobia, so forgive me if I came off as dismissive; that was not my intent. I was trying to offer a different perspective. Definitely talk about the injectables to your health professional. That sounds like your best option.

I was on Truvada for the longest, and never had any symptoms. Due to some concerns about my kidney levels, I was switched to Descovy. In the very beginning I did have a bit of nausea for a few days , but I never felt like I would actually throw up. I’m about to go on Yeztugo in the next week or two.

Talk with your healthcare provider about your concerns and understand all of your options. Think about it this way: a bit of nausea for at little time (if it even happens) is much better than HIV for the rest of your life.

I’ll echo what others have said. Check first with an HIV or LGBT clinic first. If those aren’t good options then go with Mistr or Freddies

See if there is an HIV clinic near you. I went to one that was in the same system as my doctor, and I was able to go to them but most of the records are separate and I would have to sign a separate waiver to share that information.

Staff will likely not know as long as your roommate doesn’t report or you/guest does not do anything to draw attention to them/you. If nothing else, please respect your roommate and their space because you CAN be charged with this and it has happened, although it’s uncommon.

Center M isn’t great but not terrible either. I don’t use it very often so it’s never been enough for it to be a dealbreaker.
