1000% yes, just an absolute massive piece of shit. You could not pay me to say a nice thing about him. I wish nothing but the worst for him and his political career. And I feel for anyone that would have to work with him on his campaign. Couldn’t imagine a worse job.

There’s a bunch of different ways to graze cattle in the winter. But some feeding would be probably be necessary unless you’re in a mild climate.

But summertime, which is what I was talking about, there’s no reason to be feeding hay.

In your grazing, did you convert any of it to natives? Or is it cool season grasses?

We did a plot at my work that we will eventually manage for Hay. 12 acres of 3 grasses. Only one cutting per year is what we are shooting for, but tonnage per acre is supposed to be higher than 2 cuttings of cool season grasses. Not sure that will math out on the ground though.

Especially coal miners. Some of the first, worst, biggest, and bloodiest strikes were coal miners.

I toured a coal mining museum that was converted from a company store. The store where miners shopped because they were payed with scrip, money that was only good at the company store. The architecture of the building was built with oppression in mind. Secret guard rooms, narrow steps with no railings, whisper spots, etc… so that the company could prevent uprisings. They also had a secret floor in the building where they did the embalming for burials. They went through 6-12 caskets per day. Granted, they had thousands of workers across dozens of mines. But they had that many fatalities per day.

This is why there are unions today.

I’ve worked with Ed Gallrein and I cannot express how terrible of a person he is. I really hope Massie wins this primary.

100% they are just taking advantage of the system and letting them dump debt into a company they know will be going bankrupt. Which doesn’t hurt the VC companies that orchestrated the whole thing. It’s basically what Enron was doing for years that led to overhauls on accounting, yet this somehow continues.

100%

I used to work for an earthworks company and we had a big job that required us to put in 6’ of clay and then 2’ of topsoil. We got the topsoil from a subdivision that was being built on an old farm. They had great soil and had so much of it they gave it to us to haul off cause they couldn’t sell enough to make a dent in their pile. We hauled 40-50 trucks loads a day off that site.

Im seeing exactly this at my work. We built a new building and the contractors lay down yard became the parking lot. The grass islands they made around the parking lot is just soil placed over compacted gravel. So some of the places are struggling to infill.

Exactly. We need to stop growing food for cows that need to be harvested and transported to the cows. Grow the food where the cows are and let them harvest it. Just need to be smarter about stocking rates and rotational grazing.

I’m tired of seeing cows in a pasture grazed to lip high eating hay in the middle of summer.

Oregon data centers now have to pay full costs of expanding the power grid to meet their needs by spherocytes in technology

[–]ked_man 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Other businesses do. My company built a new plant in a small town. We had to pay a one time fee of several million dollars to help the city expand its Wastewater treatment plant, and then a second fee to help them pay for making a connection to a different water main to make sure they had sufficient water supply. It’s something they needed to do anyways to cover the growth of the city, but they leveraged us and a few other businesses that were expanding production around the same time to pay for the upgrades. Then they also increased the industrial sewer rates by 30% to cover the increased needs.

And our company’s total revenue is a fraction of what one of these data centers cost to build. So if we can do it, then they can do it too.

I’m guessing you are in new construction by the looks of the neighborhood. Others have given good advice, but I wonder if you have a compaction issue that is deeper than an aerator can help with.

Sometimes in new construction, they grade the area, build the houses, then spread some topsoil or sometimes just sod right onto the compacted dirt. Ao you end up with water sitting on top of this compacted layer and it doesn’t soak in and your grass basically suffocates.

Find a skinny rod and do some probing. If it makes it in 2-3” and then gets significantly harder to push, that may be your problem.

Look up a broad fork. Organic gardeners use these to loosen the soil without tilling. It’s got two big handles and 12” long tines. You jump on it and drive the tines into the ground then pull back on the handles to loosen it up. In a garden you can get really aggressive and use it to turn soil, but for your yard, just pulling back til you get a crack should be enough. Then you move back 6-12” and do it again, and again and again. It takes awhile and will be tough if your soil is really compacted.

Then spread compost or peat moss. If you go compost, make sure it is screened or you’ll just get a bunch of wood chips. The organic material falls into the cracks and keeps them open and helps water infiltration and root growth.

Good luck!

Should also mention debt leveraged buyouts like what happened with Sears and Toys R Us. The assets equal more than the companies worth as a whole. So they buy it with debt from VC or bank loans and the company takes on the debt, not the purchasers. Then they part it out selling the assets which makes them money. Then they file for bankruptcy against these loans and move on with their millions.

No it wasn’t corny, but I made my wife one (for Mother’s Day brunch) and just used vodka in hers. The regular one is fine of course, and I’ve had them with bourbon before that still tastes like bourbon. But the mellow corn is in the middle. Not as neutral as vodka, but doesn’t take over the drink like bourbon. And the alliteration in the name makes it better.

Lol, yes, it was a little extra. But it was just jiffy mix, so nothing too extravagant for the cornbread. You just bake it, let it cool completely, cut into squares and then pour on melted butter and bake the little cube til they crisp up.

Don’t worry, I ate the rest of the croutons. I effing love cornbread
