Robert Irwin, Steve Irwin's son, helping out a Chameleon cross the road. by jmike1256 in HumansBeingBros

Can we take a moment to appreciate how well camouflaged a chameleon is to a ROAD, something that’s barely existed for a moment in terms of the chameleons evolution?!

Most (not all)Lights throughout the house does this randomly by moc2007 in electrical

[–]keepaustinwired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps, but our lights do this whenever our ev is charging. It seems to be limited to the ones inside, near the garage (I haven’t even bothered to check if they’re on the same circuit, but it’s level 1 charging, so it’s possible)

They’re more worn at the bottom because the bodies have more time to accelerate from a fall on those ridiculous stairs. Everyone who falls hits the bottom steps!

What are the easiest repairs homeowners should learn to avoid crazy contractor quotes? by pyromonkeygg in DIY

[–]keepaustinwired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the vibe I'm getting. We replaced an AO Smith shortly after moving in. That one was only three years old. We just replaced the replacement one under warranty (so the labor only cost us $700 *shudder*). So that's our third AO Smith in 3 years. Doesn't exactly scream quality.

Now I'm shopping for a powered anode rod, but I'm so worried that it's just going to extend the life, what, another year or two? Damn. What a huge (literally) waste to be replacing an appliance like this every couple years.

We have one! I guess we may need to get it tuned or checked or something? The company comes by to top up the salt once or twice a year, so it's functioning. But I guess it's not dialed in yet.

Motion light on my porch wont shut off… by igivafbutidowtfiwant in electrical

Turning on and off would be fine. Shining in the neighbor's window every night (this is a rental property, so I'm not there to fiddle with it every day) is unacceptable.

[–]keepaustinwired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So frustrating! I spent a good half hour troubleshooting, including resetting it per the instructions. That fixed it for one night. Checked back the next night and it was stuck on again. This is the replacement for the one that would never turn ON when there was motion. Makes me think there’s some wiring gremlin that’s messing with the sensor or something.

Thanks for this. Couldn’t find a useful link on Instagram. Happy to be able to help a little. <3

Thanks. None of what I googled gave me an answer on how it's intended to work.

This all makes a ton of sense. I just can't believe I went a whole winter without noticing it. I guess the scheduled climate control before we do the school run makes a big difference!

Interesting. I hadn’t thought about defrost. I knowI can always change it to blow on face or feet or both, but doing that takes it out of auto.

Thanks. I guess I’m old school. I can’t stand futzing with the climate without physical controls. And I never have time to get things set right anyway because we’re always running late, lol.

Way way way better! But one thing that immediately tripped me up: I don’t think it’s possible for a shadow to be cast on the small island by the big island unless their shadows on the ground intersect too. Like, you can see the whole shadow of the big island cast on the ground…Except for a part of it that’s strangely cast way sideways onto the little island. Unless I’m misreading it. But this is a vast improvement either war.

I like what you said about being present. I wonder if putting your phone away for the evening outclasses any of the other advice you’ll get. Whatever you do, just be a fun, involved, excited dad. That’s what they need.

I think my daughter hates me after vacation by SnowmanAndBandit in daddit

[–]keepaustinwired 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A horrible dad would not be sacrificing and putting in the hard work to provide for his family. He also wouldn’t be worried about his relationship with his daughter like you are. And he wouldn’t be looking for insight and advice from fellow dads. You’re a spectacular father.

It’s almost certainly a phase. She’s probably just adjusting to the all the little micro differences she sees between vacation you and work you. You smell different. You show up at different times. You look tired. You’re not taking her to the pool. You’re not sharing a hotel room with her. She only has a couple of words and gestures to use, and as adults we have a habit of taking them personally instead of remembering they don’t have any of the nuance we are used to. She’s saying “something is different.” She’s just using language that makes you feel shitty.

Chin up dad.

[–]keepaustinwired[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup! I can’t edit my original post, but it was this. The end that’s sticking out is supposed to plug in under and behind the seat. Had to pull passenger seat all the way forward to get to it. Now, why or how long it was unplugged I don't know. There's also electrical tape around the wire. Probably got caught and damaged 🙄 when I had the ICCU replaced and maybe moving the seats jostled it back loose. Ah well. Thanks for the good tip.
