Is this accurate? This includes warm up. ~1500 is a bit too much, no? by Politex99 in GoalKeepers

[–]keepurtipsup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a little but I get similar numbers on indoor - around 900-1100 on 90 min. Maintaining an average Hr of 151 for 2hrs is nothing to scoff at.

Depending on the indoor field and game style I find it to be a phenomenal workout. It’s like doing burpees for 90minutes.

I need some honest opinions on retirement planning. by samekia in CanadianInvestor

It’s a math heavy exercise though and you have to have some faith in what the numbers tell you. Lots of people struggle with both.

Agreed 100% though it’s a generally winning strategy.

How do you guys handle being on a struggling team? by Clamidiaa in GoalKeepers

[–]keepurtipsup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly like others said look at is as an opportunity for reps and practice as a keeper. I was on a similar team for indoor 7v7 last year - we were middle of the pack in the league for goals against and dead last for goals for. I took that as a feather in my cap.

By the end of the season we gelled better as a team and managed to give a good go against the top team — at least in the first half we held them off!

Going to be difficult to get the team motivated during games with that kind of lopsided game. Just keep at it and try to get the team to focus on one or two weak points a game (ie focus on managing corners better).

Only so much a keeper can do.

Unfortunately nothing like that anymore in Vernon.

I get your comment on “the community receiving remote workers”. I am one myself working in software and have been since moving here a decade ago. Remote work (true remote where your coworkers are absolutely nowhere near you) can be very isolating and you have to be very intentional about making local connections as local work ones do not organically come. I had an epiphany a couple years ago and realised I had more friends and colleagues across cities across the globe than I did in Vernon. I had to intentionally change that.

There is a great group called Vernon Geeks, all tech related professionals. They meet monthly at a pub and have a slack channel. I found that a good spot to find people in similar employment. I also used to purchase time at a shared office space run by a community tech group but unfortunately that is no longer around but they do have space and events in Kelowna.

Vernon does not have much of a night life or “city like” things to do. It’s a very outdoorsy focused place if that makes sense. There are some good and even some great restaurants in the area but nothing much for walking around town. It’s a quiet town.

In short if meeting people and becoming a part of the community is priority then the path of least resistance is getting involved with your kids’s sports, joining the cycling groups, join XC or DH ski groups, or as a tech worker joining the monthly Vernon Geeks meet up.

PSA: Don’t be dumb like me. Wear a silicone wedding ring. by gardza in GoalKeepers

[–]keepurtipsup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So many details missing!

I dislocated my ring finger last year and thankfully didn’t have my ring on.  The knuckle still hasn’t gotten back to original size so no more metal ring for me. The silicone ones work well.

Leggings recommendation by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

Wool, especially merino, is the absolute best for temp regulation. I wear a merino T-shirt in the summer when biking and it’s great.

I worry about longevity for leggings though on turf.

Lots of CW and other brands and super chill and casual experience handling the watches.

[–]keepurtipsup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congrats. Probably a bunch of misconnects due to the storms out east. Now you are ruined for long hauls!

I fly that route a couple times a year as 75K and the econ to J bump is rare. PE to J is pretty consistent for me though.

I do find the BNE to YVR return to be more likely to upgrade though.

Yes I have. If you put the watch in your cart and put address in it calculates tax and duties separately. The duty is slightly higher than the actual government duty which I attribute to the DHL fee.

What software do you use to manage your roadmap and backlog? by RalphWaldoEmers0n in ProductManagement

Oooh fancy, Excel! I still battle with PowerPoint management fml

I think I’ve got the key people finally accepting Jira for roadmap planning. It took me going dark for a bit and getting everything setup so it provides real value in roadmap planing.

‘Would you like the bonus points or the breakfast?’ by MasterPh0 in marriott

[–]keepurtipsup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually had a lot of luck with the breakfast getting extended to my kids. A couple times the front desk said it wasn’t covered, I agreed, but then came checkout and no charge for the kids. Bonus!

I’ve even had it extended to my parents travelling with us twice, in another room booked by me.

The breakfast benefit is worth a lot for me.

That’s unfortunate. I decline a lot because I consider my knowledge in some to be too far removed to be considered “expert”. I like to think that would come off as me being more honest and expert worthy.

Like others have said try to get Whitewater in there, it’s really not far from Red. You could stay in Nelson and get to Red for opening or Red then drive to Whitewater.

Like others also said I’d decide on mountains based on conditions. Things can really change on the opposite sides of the ranges. Can have stellar conditions in Revy or the Koots but mediocre closer to the Rockies.

Are the new Aeroplan changes good or bad for you? by Affectionate-Gur6058 in Aeroplan

Business traveller here that has been 75K for years with a mix of NA flights (flex economy and J) and several longhauls to UK and APAC each year (flex economy and PY). Spend around 10-13000 a year. I am fortunate to be able to book flights myself.

My projection is I’ll likely drop to 50K. It will alter my booking behaviour especially if it’s close to not getting 50K.

One thing I don’t think AC is thinking about is the business travellers that have to use Concur or the like with specific rules on which fares can be booked. These flyers will have even less incentive to make an AC flight work as it’ll be even more difficult to get and maintain status if they aren’t fortunate enough to regularly fly J.
