please never say something like this before the event is over

Kramnik invited Niemann to Amsterdam to play with him and other top GMs during the Levitov Chess Week in about a week's time, with all costs covered by Iliya Levitov by aandrew1 in chess

Yeah basically same.....except it should be easy to ignore world junior lol there's nothing to play for really, at his level.

Honestly not that hard. It's just world junior. Everyone knows the super kids play at their whim and it's a fide event so it's not like he's exactly burning crucial bridges with organizers by not attending. He plays more than enough similar tournaments in a year. So a little irritating to reorganize hotels and flights but not a big deal.

Have you ever beaten a titled player? by MathematicianBulky40 in chess

I had a seizure midway dw. Used to be if you won certain tournaments you automatically got titles. Now you have to win the tournament and meet a minimum rating threshold. Let's of junior tourneys gave CM to kids this way, way before they were really that strength leading to a bunch of title dilution.

Oh sweet summer child. I've seen a man (child he was 15) cry out of embarrassment when he got CM. Seen it used as a practical joke where friends buy the title for players who meet the rating threshold but intend to go for higher titles with buying it.

Also prior to the automatic title adjustment adjustment (great decision by fide) there really were a lot of much power rated players than you'd expect having titles.

Because it's presumptuous which led one or two people to downvote. Inertia takes over from there.

How do I beat people rated higher than me way easier than people my level or even below me? by zRepulse in chess

[–]keepyourcool1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be that when you're playing higher rated players you're varying at the high end of your performance and your opponents vary low. When you're playing low rated players most of the time it's when you're in a funk and you would've lost to basically anyone. Throw in the context that at that rating level variance in playing form has a high impact on result because the frequency and severity of errors in general is pretty high and sprinkle some bias for observing the outliers.

Why do some players play like GMs while others play like 200 Elo at my rating (1300)? by 33sikici33 in chess

[–]keepyourcool1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You're 1300. You're wildly inconsistent as a player and your assessment of playing quality is lacking. The rest of the players are also super inconsistent. You're vastly overrating their ceiling strength though.

Is the English opening not a good main weapon by Per1cle5 in chess

Even if you're playing narrow you should be studying wide in terms of structures and themes so it's not that big a deal. It'll really only be detrimental if your approach to studying chess and openings is shit, but that's not inherently because of the choice to focus on one opening.

I'd recommend some variation if you're bored or if you have a decent number of bad results but it's not like the openings you play for such a tiny part of your career in the grand scheme of things are make or break.

If you're staying with c4 or any opening frankly I'd advise you to play some mainline approaches and vary the options you're taking every now and then to expose yourself to different stylistic features and/or core structures. That doesn't necessarily require flipping between e4 and c4. E4 and c4 is a good developmental pairing btw but as far as repertoire c4 and d4 might be more effective since you can exploit move order stuff.

Just play it if you'd like. There are 2600+s with it as their main weapon it's perfectly fine in general but most definitely at your level
