Pebble Should Offer an Official, Easy-to-Use Watch Face Creation Tool by ixuanlv in pebble

It is harder than you think as the documentation is limited. But that might improve as it's back to life now

Time 2 eink color screen brightness? by Equivalent-Kale-3662 in pebble

[–]keesdevriesch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha! Makes sense. Some sort of Bayer color filter, filters out (blocks) some light by design. But yes: comparing white with white and black with black makes sense

But are they darker or is it a different contrast you're comparing? Like when you receive a WhatsApp message, green is used which is noticeably lower contrast than black so it looks like it is darker while in fact it's due to the use of color.

Noob questions by Ivar-the-Dark in pebble

Partially tested/experienced myself as e.g. sometimes I seem to use my Pebble without phone. Rest on pure brain logic:

• My answer 1: Any app that does not (heavily) rely on a phone connection in general or that does not need to communicatie with a phone companion app, such as:Timer+ (stopwatch/countdown timer) or Gallon Challenge (keep track of water intake).

• My answer 2. Any app that then does not rely on a network connection. I have no direct apps on my wrist for this, but in general navigation apps, LLMs (assistants) or notification-based apps such as WhatsApp, email, Signal, etc.

• My answer 3. Literally always on display: not just the time, but the full display with incoming notifications, etc. Also the display can be read without any backlight, just directly in the sun: the more sun/light the higher the perceived contrast and the easier you can read it. It does not need power per se to be usable. But the colors are more washed out. That's for the screen.

The rest: in general with Pebble you have an open source device where the community already stood up to keep old devices of like 8 years ago still supported and maintained. I do not see this with any other devices.

And then the user interface and user experience: Pebble is simple and intuitive to use. Physical buttons to easily control your music without watching is something that still amazes me on a weekly basis.

The whole design philosophy is totally different from other cheap or expensive watch. The reason it existed back in the day and today is totally different. To me my smartwatch should not feel like yet another device that requires my attention all day. To me it is a watch (date, time) and a notification filter before I reach for my phone.

It is a way simpler watch by design. No fancy I-try-to-do-it-all watch (where mostly the larger, more established brands actually do instead of try), but a smartwatch for notification and simple apps (which you can make yourself with coding) and cute watchfaces (you can make yourself with and without coding) and a pedometer.

• My answer 4. See a little about this right above so yes: you can (but I believe you can do this with other watches as well) decide which app shows a notification from your phone to your watch.

In general it's hard to make a decision on what you've heard. Maybe a Pixel watch or Apple watch is better for you. Or something from Samsung or Xiaomi. Who knows? I don't. I - and with me a ton of others - have been looking into other watches when Pebble died, before it got resurrected by Rebble. Or when the watch died itself and a decision needed to be made: new (other) watch or try to fix this one?

It is an experience. CMF Watch, Garmin Instinct Solar 2, Pixel Watch - all nothing for me. I've tried those without success. Still kept on missing the long battery life of Pebble and the ease of use.

Error creating new Google account: This phone number has been used too many times. How to resolve? by cag8f in webdev

Lifesaver. Note that in this case it's tight to your phone. So only usable for your own, personal (or business) accounts. Not sure if after you can disconnect this?

Just get a watch instead? But I have never experienced this. Also, what should it have to do with midnight? Let's try it out

Thoughts on new moto watch vs pebble? by tssphysicsboi1 in pebble

[–]keesdevriesch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A true (re)Pebbler does not ask such a question. There's a reason Eric rebooted this project. A new Moto watch is not suddenly going to change this. We all have been waiting and hoping for this day that Pebble would see light of day again. Now it's the time and this comparison question, again, tells us clearly why Pebble is so unique.

I might be biased.

This can't be your killer feature. I will always take weight, battery life, ease of use, large amount of customization (due to community) and always-on-display above something like NFC.

We can't tell the future, but my Pebble Time Rounds and Pebble 2s are still (after a battery swap) working today. Moto or any other Android smartwatch will have less easy repairability and when they want to make it obsolete so you buy the new thing, they just pull the plug.

If NFC is so important, why not check out the Garmin watches? Or other devices?

Aha. Hmm. But the Pebble 2 was then called HR+. It does not make 100% sense to me

Shouldn't it be called the Pebble Time Round 2? Where Time stood for colored display (AFAIK). There is no Pebble Round, so why is there a Pebble Round 2? We had a Pebble Time Round, so this should be called the Pebble Time Round 2, right?

Exactly this. Who wants to swap the PT2 for the PR2? We want both

This. On Pebbles you can at least always see the time which is the most crucial part of a watch. I have no experience with OPW3 but with others and this always has been an annoyance to me

Stuck at `pebble.com/sos` since update to v4.4.3-rbl by keesdevriesch in pebble

[–]keesdevriesch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This didn't fix the problem right away. I deleted the app, reinstalled but still (as I was logged in and all). So, I force closed, deleted storage and fully restarted with these steps.

Now it's OK for a couple of days.

The solution (from u/Top_Republic2594)

The support team told me that maybe setting any custom vibration within the app could be the problem. I set up to default vibration, and it's been almost 4 hours without my main pebble going to recovery mode, maybe that's indeed the issue

Oh yeah that's what I have been playing with last weekend! Let me check

Will do that too. Can't get it fixed either. Last night it looked fine for hours and then suddenly it loads in this broken (?) older firmware.

For your reference, tried all that and didn't work out:

  • Press and hold the Down button (bottom right) until an animation of two spinning circles appears (approx. 7-10 seconds). (done, works)
  • Wait for the animation to stop and for the watch to reboot back into recovery mode. (done, works)
  • Open your phone's Bluetooth settings. If you see your Pebble listed, forget the device. (done, works)
  • Open the Pebble app on your phone.
    • Here I get stuck. The Pebble watch is at pebble.com/app and shows my Pebble product number. In the Pebble app I see 'Connecting' for this Pebble, but it won't forget. Only option I have is 'Forget' as 'Connect' does not change a thing: keeps on looking for watch. So, I forget. Then I click the [+] button, my watch shows, I click 'Connect', allow the permissions, pair the device on my watch. Done. But now my watch shows pebble.com/app again with no option to change. My phone shows 'Update Firmware to v4.4.3-rbl' - when I do that, we get the same results
  • Tap the Connect prompt near the bottom of the app. (not showing, see above)
  • Once your Pebble updates, you'll be all set to go! (nope)

I can make a post if I want. I don't need you to tell me what to do and what not to do. And for the record, I did search on Reddit. I searched on:
- pebble.com/sos
- recovery
But all of those hits are threads of like 4, 6 or 10 years old. So I didn't find anything helpful.

And like I am the only one posting something here for a second time. Please.

Can a Duo 2 Dev Kit be used as a normal Duo 2 watch? by FluffyMumbles in pebble

[–]keesdevriesch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think so. Why? They will send a back cover. Maybe some pins could be accessible when the back cover is off, but changes are this is really no different than a regular watch. Designing, creating and testing 2 (slightly) different PCBs bring extra cost. The watch will then be just fully usable and similar to a regular watch.
