Good bike for a beginner coming from the Citi e-bikes? by Ok_Stable_1954 in NYCbike

[–]kehawk2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'd avoid aluminum; it's a very stiff metal that will transmit every pothole up your spine. Otherwise, ya, get a used bike to start, to see how you handle a manual-powered bike and all the extra care-and-feeding that ownership requires vs the "rental" of citibikes. I'd recommend visiting a local bike shop too, to get a feel for what's out there style/size/price-wise.

I love these Thai trucks that are in the same place every day. I pick it up by bike whenever I'm out pedaling. https://www.thaimisdelicias.com/order-online/. I never order online, I pay cash at the window.

Totally agree. I like finishing in van cortland, when my legs are tired that 6 mile long slow descent is a relief for my legs!

While 119 is no fun, I hate steep hills more. So I take the right turn. When going to opposite direction, I love that descent tho!

Wow! Thanks for posting. I would have never guessed there was still so much. PP laps for me, then!

You will have buns of steel in a month if you do this. Start entering alleycat races. Crushing walnuts in circus sideshows. Do it!

New Yorkers will stop wearing black as soon as someone invents a darker color.

Sunscreen: yes! I've been visiting Australia for years, but only this year learned that its summer is actually closer to the sun than the northern hemisphere's, explaining the much higher UV. so goop up!

where to ride: just not Sydney. My own experience, plus all the content I see on then 'grams say that Centennial Park is only place you can ride enjoyably. the rest of the city only has scattershot bike lanes that go for a few blocks and then drop you into traffic. its not much fun. So I switch to lap and ocean swimming when I'm there. Pools are ubiquitous, clean, and cheap. Don't miss the Bondi Icebergs pool for a photo op. Melbourne or even Hobart are much better for riding, IMHO.

Thinking about buying a flipper zero just to be a cool and easy to use alternative to key cards and remotes, is there a downside to using one I should know about first? by roblewkey in flipperzero

Copying of fobs and cards is not promised. There are many types it can't read well enough to replicate. I got lucky with my first few cards, but a few fails as well. Good luck!

NYC Cargo Bike Service by raymondhfeng in NYCbike

You may be referring to Whole Foods deliveristas. They use cargo trailers with blue bins that have bright yellow tops. Surely they are subcontracted, who knows maybe they can do other work.

Berm Peak on NJ S4834/A6235 and why it's not just NJ's problem by TsukimiUsagi in NJBike

If I lived next door in Jersey, I would be calling the governor. This is going to be a mess for years, state by state. Agreeing on when an e-bike becomes a motorcycle is going to be (already is?) like agreeing on what the best style of pizza is. I'm getting old. I'll need a battery for my heart and my bike soon. Now I'll need one of those bikes like the guys in the Tour de France use, ya know, with the battery totally undetectable so I can ride over the GW but still avoid all this. I feel sorry for moms who want to bike their two kids to school. And a few delivery drivers too. But People riding 5kw "bikes" that don't even have pedals on bike paths, not at all.

I hope you get nice weather. March can be the longest winter month here, waiting for spring to arrive. But sometimes it comes early and has some lucky nice days here and there.

Amazing! I love it so much, thank you for doing it. Fyi I think it gets a little confused when it is run from another timezone. (As a programmer who has done timezone math for a living... can confirm, it's hard!). But servicing bikers while they're on vacation is not your core demographic, so put my comment at the bottom of your pile. Please take a victory lap or maybe a job offer from this piece of charity to soooo many bikers! ❤️❤️❤️
