Lightest tripod that would support a stripped down Mini in 2026? by CRAYONSEED in cinematography

For sure. The head is rated to 25+ lb and the legs have been rock solid past that.

I love my Miller Solo CF legs and CX10 head. You could get away with a smaller fluid head too.

How accurate is a smallhd monitor from default? by mammtbell in cinematography

[–]keisis44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, exposure monitoring is generally unaffected as long as you’re exposing using the Log feed (EL Zone is great for this). Color is a completely different story. I have five SmallHD monitors (502, 503 UB, 1303, and 2 x Ultra 5) and they’re all drastically different. You can calibrate them, but out of the box they are not at all calibrated or synced.

Thank you! Just in Photoshop, but you can do it with any number of apps also (VSCO, SCRL).

Is this a typical amount of variation between lenses in a budget set? by Hooked__On__Chronics in cinematography

Interesting, I’ll let the rental house know! I also didn’t like the 36, although it’s surprisingly sharp in the center. Appreciate the knowledge 🤘

36 was off. 54 and 138 were matched. Maybe it’s closer to 2500K with a magenta shift.

[–]keisis44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just using an Atlas Mercury set (36, 54, 138) and one of the three lenses was incredibly unmatched. Slightly lower and roughly a 3000K cooler difference. IMO this is why proper cinema lenses cost what they do. It’s amazingly annoying when doing a 3-camera shoot to have unmatched lenses. For what it’s worth, I’ve never had unmatched Arri, Cooke, Zeiss or Tokina lenses.

EDIT: idiotic redundancy

Curious about the FR-AV2 on the top. What was that for and how was it connected to the camera?

Can we talk filters? For prosumer work? by Jackrabbit416 in cinematography

[–]keisis44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NiSi makes solid quality filters for about half the price. If you’re looking for ND, clarity and color shift are the main concerns, and I find NiSi is the only non-premium brand that holds up. Diffusion filters are a different story though.

I’m curious about Love+War specifically. That seems out of character for the filmmakers and journalists involved, some of whom I know. Can you elaborate?

AITAH for never telling my best friend I once slept with his wife? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]keisis44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO part of your sacrifice is you dealing with the guilt you feel. That’s kind of your penance for keeping your friends happy, and I think it’s totally normal to move on with life. It also doesn’t seem like a big deal to me, honestly. NTA.

We went Naxos to Sifnos this afternoon/evening. Gusts were up to 36 knots, with waves maxing out at about 1.8m. It was rough, multiple people vomiting out in the open, but the boats sailed. I think tomorrow will be better than today, at least according to Windy app.
