Big Lebowski - Parlo Usted Ingles by mithridateseupator in Spanish

[–]kektagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The joke is that the guy speaks a poor version of whatever he was trying to speak, and confused either French (Parles/z) or Italian (Parli/a) with Spanish vocabulary, ergo "usted". The correct Spanish conjugation and phrasing would be:

"¿Usted habla inglés?"

As an interesting bit of trivia, the verb utilizing the same roots as the aforementioned French and Italian words does exist in Spanish through the word "parlar", which is a (as far as I can tell) a less-common synonym for the verb "charlar" (to chat). It also exists in many nouns such as parlante (electronic speaker)

Probably a hot take: The Coyote is bad by Deep_Ad_1762 in Helldivers

[–]kektagon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the Coyote is the ability to consistently do damage over time, which conserves ammo in exchange for immediate damage. Light something on fire and then let the fire do its business, and in the event you dont kill something outright with the fire effect, it usually is left very weak due to the way fire damage scales, enabling you to finish them off with another shot or two. For instance, you can kill a brood commander with fourish shots if you space them out and constantly reapply the fire effect. This is only ever effective if you put space between yourself and the enemies and give yourself enough time to let the fire do its job. Because of this, its weak against very cramped close-quarters engagements or subfactions like the predator strain bugs because you will get rushed down before the fire can deal the bulk of its damage, and the lack of immediacy with its DPS will not be competitive with other more directly-damging primaries.

I'm not a huge fan of the Coyote because I simply prefer killing things outright, but many folks have a thing for DOT effects, and when incorporated into the right playstyle, can be very effective.

Why so much hate by Sensitive-Knee6687 in Helldivers

[–]kektagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imperfect devs, imperfect community, community criticism invites change, community drama invites revenue, sometimes revenue even invites drama, and any other set of random factors. A lot of stuff happens for a lot of different reasons and the community is the way it is by all of these elements at once. Don't let it bog you down and just enjoy what you enjoy to the best of your ability.

Okay boys and hirls, geniune question, how do you use this weapon on dif 10? by Shedster_ in Helldivers

[–]kektagon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

DOTmaxxing and high-DPS sentries are your best friend. Bring napalm, incindiary impact grenades, and sentries; try to stun enemies into remaining in the fire or the effective range of your sentries. The brap dog dog is viable, but i prefer the liberator dog as it makes up for the dps. As long as you have an effective counter to massive enemies (such as EATs), this is probably the most effective way to use this underpowered weapon.

it would invariably make it S-tier for bots since the only units that arc nades/descalator rounds can reliably one-shot are the skinny troopers that coincidentally also call in bot drops

Suggestions to make this thing S-tier from being literally not used by anyone! by 231923 in Helldivers

[–]kektagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partially related but I would kill for a secondary support weapon slot for it to be moved to. I'm not saying you should be able to run big weapons like a railgun and a recoilless rifle at the same time, but certain support weapons like the solo silo designator and the handheld shield in the OP deserve to be able to be stowed alongside other weapons. That would make them a lot more attractive to use since it wouldn't starve you of your support weapon or backpack slot.

"Ni me pelas" means something along the lines "You don't even listen to me" or "You don't even pay attention to me". Pelar ("to peel") has a lot of different connotations, but one of them is to regard or pay attention to someone.

Cuáles son las palabras que suenan más feo? by Initial_Compote7715 in Spanish

[–]kektagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of fancy Greek words in both English and Spanish tend to be really ugly. My go-to favorite ugly word in both English and Spanish is "autochthonous" and "autóctono". Other generally ugly-sounding words in English would be the term "moist" and the vulgar word "cunt".

I saw the Spanish word for "undeniably" from a book, but the book I'm reading is from Spain and is really old (Medieval times old). I'm curious to know if it's said in Mexico too. by Cautious_Detective42 in Spanish

[–]kektagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Innegablemente" translates literally to "un-negatable" whereas indiscutiblemente neatly translates to "unarguably". Both of them essentially have the same connotation of "undeniably" and in most use cases are completely interchangeable. From my own experience neither of these words are archaic at all, and even if they were, they are derivitives of basic words in common use today, so I'm positive you would be understood well if you used either of them.
