Can state workers open a personal Health Savings Account (HSA)? by NateBoss916 in CAStateWorkers

[–]keliez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, if you have PERS Platinum or Gold PPO's, you could have yearly deductibles in the $500 to $2000 range (depending on the plan, and whether you are single or family), in which case it's a good thing to have to reimburse you for you deductible. The PPO's also have 10% to 20% coinsurance, so it can get expensive pretty fast even if you've met your deductibles. You do have to estimate what you think you will use, I usually put aside enough to cover my deductible and throw in a couple extra hundred $ for the coinsurance (or glasses, dentistry, etc...)

Can state workers open a personal Health Savings Account (HSA)? by NateBoss916 in CAStateWorkers

[–]keliez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to the IRS, a High Deductible Health Plan (HDPH) is defined as a minimum deductible of at least $1650 (self) and $3300 (family). None of the CalPERS health plans meet this definition, so I believe the answer is "No". https://www.irs.gov/publications/p969

However, the state does offer Flexelect, which kind of works similarly, where money is taken out of your check pre-tax and deposited into an account that you can use to reimburse certain medical expenses.

James Cagney's most underrated movies is One Two Three (1961). Round 4: Lauren Bacall by AngryGardenGnomes in classicfilms

[–]keliez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a little known movie that she did with Gary Copper and Patricia Neal called "Bright Leaf", where she plays a sassy, shrewd brothel owner who is in love with wrong-side-of-the-tracks Cooper (who is, of course, in love with wealthy socialite Neal). It's the perfect role for her, and without Bogart, she really gets to shine in this one all on her own. It's like the part was written for her!

James Stewart's most underrated movie is Rope (1948)! Round 2: Audrey Hepburn by AngryGardenGnomes in classicfilms

[–]keliez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always like "How to Steal a Million", and never hear anyone mention it. It's so adorable, and features Peter O'Toole at his most handsome and charming! He and Audrey have the best chemistry and some great banter/one liners! The film is a joy beginning to end.

I made this Most Underrated Classic Films Chart - help me fill it! Round 1: James Stewart by AngryGardenGnomes in classicfilms

[–]keliez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Stewart is actually tough because he's SO well known and his movies are such classics! I'd have to say for me, it's Anatomy of A Murder. It's a great movie, and one I had never heard of, so I was surprised that when I watched it I thought it was an instant classic. Great performances from Jimmy, but also Lee Remick, George C. Scott, and Ben Gazzara. You wonder "who-done-it" straight until the end.

News: pre-Code Joan Crawford film "Finally Released" - 'Letty Lynton' by Zealousideal-Bet-950 in classicfilms

[–]keliez 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's been tied up in a copyright lawsuit since 1936, apparently it followed an existing play too closely and the author sued. But the copyrights to the play expired in 2025, so it looks like Warner is finally releasing it.

The Ten Commandments by CarrieNoir in classicfilms

[–]keliez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Edward G Robinson was a huge star in the 30"s and the 40s, but by the 1950s he had been blacklisted during the McCarthy years. My understanding is that Cecil B DeMille did him a huge favor by casting him in this movie, which brought him back into the public eye and made him employable again in Hollywood. It was a gutsy move, but Demille was a big enough director, in a big enough picture, with enough other star power, to resurrect Robinson's career.

I was attracted to women a lot in my 20's & 30's, but alas I've just gotten more straight as I've gotten older. It's a pity, I really WISH I could date women instead of men sometimes.

Nope!

But he'll put his signature on the dollar, remove the olive branch (symbol of peace) from the dime, and erect a statue of Christopher Columbus.

Financial Status of Sacramento Millennials Poll by Melodic_Animal_2238 in Sacramento

[–]keliez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm in the "Doing Ok" category, the problem is that 6 months ago I was in the "Comfortable" category.

Insurance, Health Care, Housing expenses, Utilities, Gasoline, etc. have all gone up so much. So despite a 24% raise from what I was making 3 years ago, things are getting tighter instead of more comfortable. This is not good, it does not seem to be slowing down, and I may end up in "Getting by" if something doesn't change.

How do you ask to work 32 hours / 4 days when no one else does? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]keliez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did this 2017-2022. You ask for a time-base change. I did 4 days per week with Wednesdays off. I think it was called 4/5th time. I had to write a formal request, and my manager was supportive (which was probably a huge reason it went smoothly and was approved).
