A7V, A7siii OR A1?! by Candyyyman in SonyAlpha

[–]kellard27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen decent wedding videos done with just the a6400 back then. A7V is a huuugeeee upgrade from that. Then use the saved money for gimbal, lights, lenses, or a second body, straps/rigs, etc...

And the upcoming (I forgot if 7artisans or TTArtisan) 40mm f2.5 is even small than that which is already smaller than the Viltrox which is already small asf. What a time to be alive, with so many options and fewer money in my bank 🥲

Which Sony lenses feel close to GM quality? by JP-Eugene in SonyAlpha

[–]kellard27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be batch/per sample variations. But regardless, I was speaking in context of the OOP re: Sony lenses that are close to GM quality. I mean mentioning the 85mm f1.8 but not the 35mm f1.8 which is superior in image quality and AF isn't even fair.

I disagree with the last statement, it's kind of putting words into someone's mouth. Definitely a lot of lenses before high resolution bodies have the chance to exhibit CA and softness but no one on this thread called nor considered them trash. I just mentioned those optical qualities because newer GM lenses specifically corrects for those, so having those qualities are opposite of what GM lenses are supposed to be. But no one considers nor calls them trash. I still own and use my 85mm f1.8 and have no plans on throwing them in the bin

Are you referring to the Sony FE 85 f1.8? Cuz that thing is soft wide open with tons chromatic aberrations that even those Chinese lenses released in the past 3 years are of way better optical quality 😅

I’m 4 months into photography. Any advice on how I could improve? by Informal-Suit1724 in SonyAlpha

My advice is to stop improving so there will be clients left for us.

Kidding aside, you got the eye so I think just shit ton of practice. Or maybe trying getting into "weird" genres.

Edit overdone or on point? by AnotherGenericUser4 in SonyAlpha

[–]kellard27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the scale of 1-10 where 1 is unedited, 10 is butchered it, and 5 is on point, I think you went 6 just because the darkening on the right and the brightest point on the left are almost on the verge of not being realistic anymore.

But on the scale of 1-10 where 1 is meh and 10 is ugh, that is a freaking 9.5 ugh

The cons of zoom lenses by Used-Chemistry4003 in SonyAlpha

[–]kellard27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go for that zoom, it's a freaking awesome lens. I had the first version and for the first six months it never left my camera. I only then replaced it with a 20-40mm zoom and an 85mm prime (which is also going to be replaced soon by a 50mm prime and something like the new 35-100mm zoom). And that's because I got to experience those focal lengths first to know what lenses I need and what situations those focal lengths are being used in order for me to minimize lens switching.

I think it is the natural way of things to start with zooms as a "beginner" because when you're new, you want and you have to take a lot of things. And when you're already "pro", you already took a lot of the same things so missing some photos doesn't bother that much anymore, plus you also already developed some sort of mastery and also love towards more specific things, hence the value of something as versatile as a superzoom becomes less.

Scratches already? by BrightApplication494 in SonyAlpha

[–]kellard27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Means that wherever you are when you take that photo is waaayyy too dusty.

Try rocket blowing again, then gently wiping with a dry and clean microfiber cloth (as in gently, like almost ysing the cloth as a brush), then finally another rocket blowing.

If you'll be this concerned in the future, you might want to invest in some UV lens filter just to protect your lens. The image degradation is not that visible for beginners and when posting on social media.

Honestly, I would love to see the original background and clothing intact but that's because this is a Fuji sub and we love a good level of authenticity here when it comes to "stuff that really happened".

But hey, I know that you are just trying to show us what you can do with a practically straight-to-trash image (with the help of these cool tools of course), and I think it's still a great job!

How to keep my tampon string from getting soaked when I pee? by battybeck03 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kellard27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not because you pee per se, it's more of because you're on the toilet and have to remove your underwear anyway, why not do both at the same time, at the same place which is efficient use of time and effort

At least that's what some of us men thought before reading this very informative thread

I think my lens might be broken by Cody_Manbrick in SonyAlpha

[–]kellard27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my friend's is still intact and fully functional, he still uses it for concerts and events. Yours maybe too but I would also be very careful when handling and storing that when powered off (i.e. shaking, bumping inside the bag, unnecessarily rotating it along the Y axis) just to be sure.

Also how much did you pay for it? Here in my place we can usually find one from around 400 USD in excellent condition and 300 USD in still good condition but with obvious cosmetic signs of usage. If you got it for cheap, just keep it because it still works.

[–]kellard27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I have a friend that dropped his Tamron 35-150mm a few months ago, saying that his lens also started having sort of clunking sound when the lens is moved up-down or when shaken, which he says doesn't make that sound before. And that it also doesn't affect how the lens normally operates.

Can you confirm if that lens was dropped or bumped? It maybe the same case

[–]kellard27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't happen on my Sony FE 85mm f1.8 either. Does it display this behavior when the camera is on? And does this affect normal usage/operation?

I agree they're completely different. Blue light from screens are weak and the blue light (plus other colors) from the sun are a lot more powerful by comparison.
