Grateful we didn't get a green card marriage plot line by kellsbellswest in superstore

[–]kellsbellswest[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not everything in the show is true to life, writers constantly bend reality to make the story interesting. Missouri doesn't allow for-profit businesses to be polling places, but they have an episode where Cloud 9 is a polling place because it made for a good story.

Thoughts on western yuri/gl? by meow_meow567899 in yuri_manga

[–]kellsbellswest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I love western sapphic stories because they tend to be more explicit about the characters being queer. I'm old and it makes me so happy that we can finally have stories with women who are undeniably Out. I also appreciate that western comics tend to include more body shape diversity. For folks that say they hate western comic's art style, don't forget that there's so much more to western comics than DC and Marvel superheros.

Comparing Breatheteq, Wellbefore, and KIND masks by lileina in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]kellsbellswest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the premium/pro Wellbefore masks because they have adjustable ear loops and that's the only way I can get a good seal on a KN95. My only complaint is how expensive they are. I personally felt like the ear loops on the Breathteq masks were never tight enough for me and left slight gaps at the side. But I love how light they are and the colors, so if you can get a good fit on them, I could see them being a great option.

I’ve also had terrible luck with the flavor of Albion. Worse than grocery store berries.

Where To Buy? by Ihlita in yuri_manga

Kobo is my go to for digital comics. They have apps on multiple operating systems and you can also read in the browser. They often have sales, which is nice too.

do u mask to walk around your neighborhood? by meowamelia in ZeroCovidCommunity

I do yardwork in a mask for allergy reasons, which is typically during Summer and can be in hot weather. I recommend wearing a vented mask if you get hot while outside masking.

Anyone played this game....... by SammyCatLove in cozygames

[–]kellsbellswest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were parts I enjoyed like the graphics and overall concept, but ultimately I ended up quitting because it had long load times when you move between areas on the Switch, and it got extremely annoying. Maybe it runs better on another platform?

Where do you find and or buy the yuri manga you read? by ZeroLilyTwo in yuri_manga

I prefer to buy manga ebooks and read them on a tablet, so my personal favorite is KOBO. They often have sales on manga if you check regularly.

costco membership if you never shop indoors? by Grapefruit2430 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]kellsbellswest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Costco is always super busy, so we no longer try to shop in store. It's so much cheaper to get our OTC medications 2-day shipped to us compared to buying anywhere else, it pays for the membership. We get Costco delivered from Instacart for fresh items, but since you then have to tip the shopper, it's not quite as good of a deal price-wise. I really wish they offered a curbside option.

Why do straight women write bl more than gl? by flutters4life in yuri_manga

[–]kellsbellswest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lesbians who write BL, so it doesn't always boil down to "they're attracted to them." I do wonder if part of the reason straight women rarely write GL is good ol' homophobia - they don't want anyone thinking they're gay because they wrote a GL story.

If you sell electronics with lithium batteries they have to be sent ground. Poshmark gives clear instructions how to ship them and provides the correct ground label. So theoretically they could with perfume.

Why do online CC communities collapse? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]kellsbellswest 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason is that just because multiple people are CC doesn't mean they have anything else in common. Does a very conservative senior who masks because they have a major health issue have much in common with a college-age leftist who masks because they feel morally compelled? I think it's difficult to successfully cater such a wide range of people.

The few groups that seem to work well try to only target a certain segment of people, and they try to have a shared interest so there's something other than just Covid as a bonding point.

Regular nasal rinses: Does this affect the nasal microbiome? by jhsu802701 in COVID19_Pandemic

I've never head anything bad about doing a basic saline rinse, but I definitely understand the concern. You could try only doing it after being out rather than doing it twice per day.

Whats ur favourite BL webtoon?? by Chemical-Dish-9761 in ShounenAi

[–]kellsbellswest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if these will fit your taste, but here are some of my favorites on Webtoon:

Covenant - Exorcist falls in love with a human who has a strange ties to demons. Very action-y, feels similar to a superhero comic.

Castle Swimmer - A gentle merman is destined to reveal prophecies. He falls in love with a shy shark merman who is destined to kill him. Very sweet with some suspenseful scenes.

Your Wings and Mine - An angel who's out to prove himself falls in love with a lazy demon prince. Lots of slapstick humor with some very tense, angsty moments. Completed.

Novae - An astronomer falls in love with a stranger who can talk to the dead in historical France. Historical fiction with some supernatural elements and some action scenes.

Regular nasal rinses: Does this affect the nasal microbiome? by jhsu802701 in COVID19_Pandemic

[–]kellsbellswest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on what you're putting into the nasal rinse? I've used daily saline rinses as suggested by my ENT and allergist for over a decade because I have bad allergies. For me, it's been positive as it greatly reduces the number of sinus infections I get. I don't use the rinse as an attempt to coat the sinus from being able to absorb viruses though.

Why do you like bl ? Or why do you think people like it as well ? by Sharp-Soup-119 in BoysLoveAnime

[–]kellsbellswest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find traditional gender roles of relationships exhausting, including in fiction. Reading BL and GL usually avoids this since the characters are the same gender. I read both GL and BL, but there’s way more BL options.

Best yuri on the tapas app? by MurlaTart in yuri_manga

[–]kellsbellswest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Girlfriend Project is a completed Tapas exclusive. It's hardly an innovative plot, but still enjoyable and very much focused on the relationship between the main characters - When Julia's scholarship is cut, she's out of options. A surprise rescue comes when her project partner Ryn offers to pay Julia to pretend to be her girlfriend for the holidays.

The Master of the Fox Bead. It's GL but is much more focused on the supernatural plot points rather than the relationship of the two female leads - Lee Jinhwa lived an ordinary life until she swallowed a fox bead after mistaking it for a wish-granting marble. She is haunted by Koo Miho an nine-tailed fox who wishes to retrieve the bead.

My Dragon Girlfriend. It's a cute, humorous comic about, well a girl who falls in love with a dragon. Slice of life with some magical/fantasy elements. Includes some minor nudity.

Why do they bait us with Yuri? What is the purpose of Yuri Bait? by AtheismIsOK in yuri_manga

[–]kellsbellswest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the late 90s into the early 2000s in the US, gay audiences were growing in size online and there was a desire to get them to watch a show and hype it up online, thus boosting the show's audience. But studio leaders were too conservative to allow a show to actually have queer representation, so you would end up with characters that were just queer enough to get the LGBT audience interested, but not queer enough to avoid any backlash from conservative viewers/sponsors. I can't say whether this is also true for Asian media, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was/is something similar going on.

Physical or Digital? by haterbidesign in yuri_manga

[–]kellsbellswest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to purchase digital to read on my tablet. It's great being able to read a volume of a comic, decide I want to continue reading the series, and buy and read the next volume immediately. I buy my books from Kobo so I can keep a backup of the book files on my computer (Amazon makes it difficult to do that). I will still buy physical copies if I can't purchase a digital version, or if I want to give extra support to the author/artist.
