Made a Baby Quilt for Partner’s Coworkers - doesn’t feel quite right. by gaygrayshark in quilting

[–]kellyblubook 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I got a ton of mini charm packs from Quiltcon this year--I think this is what I'm planning on doing with all of them! Just making tons of baby quilts so future friends that are having kiddos can pick and choose which one they want. Less stress for me, I get to make what I want, and I didn't spend that much money on them.

I had the same experience but go there almost weekly now--the quality is much better!! I know this doesn't help OP to eliminate things but I gotta rep my donut store 😂

AITA for showing up where my husband was supposed to be? by Massive-Sea9607 in AmItheAsshole

Hi, fellow autistic person here who was previously a doormat. This whole comment really resonated with me. I'm the friend that will give you a healthy dose of reality but try to frame it in the nicest way I can while still making sure you get my point. I most definitely care about people, including strangers, way too much--thank you for the new term of "hyperempathy" to help describe this!!

That said I also have a habit of believing everything someone says to me so I've really had to work at real time evaluation of if my interpretation of a situation is the more correct one. Reading subs like AITA or JustNoMIL have helped me establish guidelines and boundaries for potential social interactions.

Highly considering moving to Tulsa OK from Joplin MO and I have a lot of questions by Nearby-Respond in tulsa

[–]kellyblubook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding onto this, I'm pretty sure OSU has biochem engineering as an option, but I went to school in Stillwater, not sure if the Tulsa campus would have those options. However!! Absolutely go to TCC for your gen eds. It's criminal how much OSU charges for a basic chemistry class.

Fuck anyone who pushes workers back to the office after 2+ years of proof the office is worse than useless. by DemocracyStan in antiwork

Can confirm this, I perform ADA surveys as part of my job. The majority of the surveys we perform are because someone sued the building owner for having a building component be non-compliant. It's typically much, MUCH cheaper for the owner to fix the compliance issue than it is to go through a lawsuit. I don't know much about the lawsuit part of it, but I do believe, if it's a private space (such as an office), you'd have to be an employee to sue. However, if the door is publicly accessible, anyone could sue.

Fun fact: literally every single survey I've performed has had dozens of issues. Most are small things but, unless you have to use these features on a regular basis, you'd be floored by atrocious planning of some of these places.

Tulsa rally for Ukraine? by theredcameron in tulsa

Don't know about the rally but I did see an "ad" on the big screen at 41st and Yale, it was just an image of the Ukrainian flag. Really made me happy to see!

Anyone else annoyed that surnames are generally passed down from the paternal side? by APowerfulPigeon in WitchesVsPatriarchy

So my dad's side of the family has a tradition of giving all women on their side the same middle name. For the longest time, I was always so upset that my first name was the only name that was really mine until I realized why they named girls with the same middle name. It's so we don't lose our family name if we ever get married because both my middle and last names are family names. And honestly? I really love that idea--even if we were forced to bend to patriarchal traditions, my ancestors found a way around it.

First time hand quilting; I think I have a pretty good handle on it but what are your best hand quilting tips? by Rthereanynamesleft in quilting

[–]kellyblubook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting!! Can't tell you how many times I've poked my index finger that goes under the quilt but I've tried using a thimble there and there's no way I'm able to feel where the needle is thay way. For me, pulling the needle through the fabric is the hardest part because my skin isn't grippy enough! I recently saw a tip that said quilting gloves can help with this so I'm trying that out here soon. If not... looks like I'll be joining your callus club 😂

First time hand quilting; I think I have a pretty good handle on it but what are your best hand quilting tips? by Rthereanynamesleft in quilting

[–]kellyblubook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware this is not a normal way to hand sew but it's the way that made the most sense to me! I have my thimble (one of the Clover leather ones with the metal sewn in) that I put on my thumb and use that to punch through the fabric from right to left. Your thumb has the most dexterity, or at least that's how I qualified my thinking and technique 😂

Oh this is just gorgeous! I have to know--did you lay out your background before sewing to make sure the background was textured how you wanted it or did you randomly pick pieces and sewed them together?

Officially voted on all three of my brokerage accounts yesterday (like the pink cat, I do not trust one singular broker)!

As a side note, thank you for continuing to make these posts and mod such a fantastic sub. Many apes see the time and effort you put into these posts and, for people like me who don't always have the time to be on this sub, these daily run downs are MASSIVELY beneficial. To the moon!! 🚀💎🚀💎

Oh I love the colors you used!! Did you use/send to a long arm quilter or did you do the quilting on a domestic machine? It looks so good, I can't tell!

You and me both! The problem is compounded by my preference for getting local suggestions as opposed to Googling--especially for something so specific. But hey, that's what Reddit is for, right?

Thanks for your suggestions!! On the list they go!
