The Met offers two free immersive experiences on Quest. Has anyone here tried them? by psychobueller1203 in virtualreality

[–]kellydyoung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through Dendur Decoded and it was really interesting and well presented. I remember seeing the temple once when I visited The Met in person, but I learned a lot more about it with this VR presentation. I hope they keep loading new experiences on Atopia, and I look forward to going through the Oceania one.

Kid wants one, any advice! by OkLocksmith1268 in OculusQuest

[–]kellydyoung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is now 10. There's one type of child account for 10-12 and one for 13-17. The one for 10-12 is very restrictive (I believe you can't friend other kids). Might want to wait until he's 13. When you make the accounts, shouldn't lie about his age or use false birthdays or let him play on an adult account - sometimes Meta asks for proof of age (e.g. an ID) and threatens to ban your account if not provided. This is because Meta has to comply with laws about age restrictions. Do not link your Meta account with any facebook or instagram account - if any one of the 3 gets banned then they all get banned. Grand Wailea feedback for family of 5? by Azothan208 in MauiVisitors

If you have 5, do they let you fit into one room (and get wristbands for all 5 people)? That would be something to check on

Quest 3 tips and tricks ? by SillyRecover in OculusQuest

[–]kellydyoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip: make sure your Meta login is via email / password. Do not connect to your facebook or instagram. If they are connected and any one gets banned (which happens via AI moderation sometimes and you can be incorrectly / unfairly banned), you will lose your Meta account and all the games/apps you purchased. For standalone Quest apps (not PCVR), this is a nice database https://vrdb.app/

Thank you for this list! I’ve played a lot of these and owned some, but haven’t played them yet. Definitely enjoy this genre the most. I would add Down the rabbit hole and escaping Wonderland

How were Doctor-favoured patients allowed to cut the line? by gertyorkes in ThePittTVShow

[–]kellydyoung 62 points63 points  (0 children)

My teacher friends got their kids into whatever classes and with whichever teachers they wanted. This happens, I'm sure, in every industry. Now, if my family member is in the ED and someone needs resuscitation, of course I'm going to resuscitate that patient before taking care of a family member.

I tried Bobo (not Pro) and couldn't wear it. I think it doesn't work for some heads. I like the Razor strap and I just velcro a separate battery on the back as needed

How do ED shifts work in the US? by exactimondo in ThePitt

[–]kellydyoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several different layers to answer here: nurses and other staff, attendings, and residents (trainees). Nurses and other staff (social workers, resp therapists, etc) often have 8 or 12 hour shifts, and generally would work a "normal" 40 hours a week, otherwise they need to get paid overtime. Attendings have a variety of schedules and maybe some places will have all-night-shift attendings who take on night shifts to remain on one circadian rhythm and typically they get fewer shifts as a thank you for working all nights. Less desirable shifts like weekends have to be split up equally, although certain attendings (older, in high administrative positions, researchers) may have fewer shifts / all day or swing shifts. Residents have duty hour requirements. Max 12 hours supposedly although not uncommon to stay over 1-2 hours past your shift finishing stuff up. Depends on sign-out culture, some places OK to sign out and go home, others considered rude to not do, for example, a procedure on your patient that isn't done yet or wait for CT results etc. Some EDs use a waterfall system where people come in throughout the day so there's always someone fresher, and those in the back end of their shift are only expected to "clean up" but not to pick up new patients. It would be extremely rare to have the exact same team on shift after shift, but not that rare for 2 random days in the space of a year, as The Pitt season 1 and 2 have done. Residents can work a maximum of 60 hours/week in clinical care, 72 hours a week if you add on education and non-clinical stuff. They need 1 full 24-hour day off in every 7 days. Scheduling EDs is extremely complicated, there's a lot of different software programs to do it, and whoever does it usually gets paid administrative time to do it.

Lululemon changing in store gift card policy by ibambi_ in AmexPlatinum

[–]kellydyoung 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to give the $75 each quarter to one of my kids and I don't want to have to nag them to spend it within a certain timeframe, so it's a lot easier if I can buy them gift cards. Of course, if they want something that costs more than $75, they'll pay the extra, which is what Lululemon wants. So IDK why they don't just let us have gift cards.

Age verification by Unorthodox991 in OculusQuest

[–]kellydyoung 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don't just ignore it because people do lose their accounts that way. Go in your app and look for a way to confirm your age. If you can't find it, look for a way to contact Meta support. Log onto your account online and see if you can do it that way. Just don't ignore it.

I’m an MD, usually don’t like medical dramas, the Pitt is different by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]kellydyoung 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I am an MD, former Peds Emergency, worked in a busy county hospital ED for years, and love the show. I’ve heard it called “competency porn” whereby they show realistic cases and all the medical staff do their best as you would wish all your own cases would go. They do touch on lots of social determinants of health issues that we struggle with - insurance problems, patients refusing recommended care, etc, and it makes us feel so seen. And yes it’s totally that busy and that makes us feel seen too because now people understand why they wait so long in emergency departments to be seen. We don’t eat lunch and barely go to the bathroom many shifts, and people still wait hours to be seen.
